We spent a long July 4th weekend at Harrington House (four nights). We asked for a quiet room at the back of the house and it did not disappoint. Both the room and bathroom were spotless and we deeply appreciated that there were protocols in place for COVID-19. The lovely breakfasts were a wonderful surprise. We were expecting coffee and pastries at best. Instead, we were treated to wonderfully cooked meals each morning. Another pleasant surprise is that we were given a red bowl to keep for our dog, which turned out to be perfect for packing for day hikes and days spent at the river with our pup. We think this is a great place to stay for a weekend getaway with your significant other and dog.

Tastefully furnished with beautiful art, attention to details , like chocolate in the room, we felt very comfortable here on our one night stay. Our host told us about a free local music event in the park which we attended and enjoyed. Full breakfast was delicious. Easy walk to all the town offers.

After seeing the overall 5 star review average here and the price for the room, I had pretty high expectations for this B&B. There were many good things - the room was spacious and clean, the location was good and walkable to restaurants and the cute town, Spencer the B&B dog was friendly and sweet, and you can bring your own dog for a fee. But there were also significant negatives. The main one is that after getting dinner, I came back to the B&B and found my room to be stuffy and overly warm at 78 degrees. I looked into opening the windows as it was in the 60s outside (this was the end of May), but there are two sets of windows on every one, so I could not figure out how to open both to get fresh air. I sent an email to Adriane and took a cold shower, hoping she would fix the temperature or tell me how. An hour later, it was still 78 degrees in my room and I could not get comfortable. I went downstairs and found her (this was a bit after 9pm) and she said the AC was on and she would turn it down further. In short order, my room was 76 degrees, which was cool enough that I could fall asleep on top of all the covers. I slept find until 6am when I woke up sweating (still on top of the covers) because it was again 78 degrees in my room. It stayed that warm through breakfast downstairs at 8:30am and until I left, even though it was pleasantly cool and breezy outside. For my $250, I definitely expected a room temperature comfortable enough that I wouldn't be sweaty and could even sleep under the soft sheets, but that did not happen. While dogs are allowed, I'm not sure I'd say it's pet friendly, because Adriane does not allow them on the beds or furniture (which is disclosed on the website). But there is also no dog bed provided either, for your $20 fee. Also, my dog has anxiety about meeting new people (which we work with a trainer on), and Adriane made clear that she was displeased with him whining, barking, or otherwise making any noise (which only happened when we were around other people - not when we were in our room or on our own). The communal breakfast was tough for this reason, and I left as soon as I could wolf down my food, since Adriane was shushing my dog repeatedly (which I was also trying to do, but her piling on did not help anything). The communal table was also a bit crowded with 5 guests, so much so that the lady next to me dipped her sleeve into my coffee as soon as I had finished making it while she reached for something on the table. As I was heading out the door after checking out, Adriane also "corrected" me for filling up my water bottle at the sink in the kitchen (which had the only downstairs sink and which the side entrance enters into, so I had no idea it was "off limits"), saying - after I had finished doing it - that she doesn't want guests to be in the kitchen. All in all, I was surprised by the inflexibility here and by the lack of value for the price. I had much higher hopes for my stay at this beautiful old house.

Julie: Thank you for the feedback and I do apologize for the temperature problems. You are correct that the outside temperature was very low, which unfortunately has an impact on the air conditioning. I do wish you had said something about the windows--the storm windows can be a little difficult to open sometimes and I would have been happy to give you a hand. I have actually begun mentioning it to guests as they check in. On the pet friendly issues, my pet policies on the website are pretty standard in the industry. As you acknowledged, your dog had some issues and I was only concerned about the comfort of the others at the breakfast table. Perhaps having him with you at the breakfast table was not the best plan. Again I regret that your stay with us was not as expected and hope the rest of your trip went well.

This weekend was our first time ever staying in a bed and breakfast. To be honest, we didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival, Adriane was very friendly. She showed us to our room, explained how to use the amenities, and gave us some tips for places to go for good food and drinks. The room was absolutely immaculate. The decor was very tasteful with much attention to detail. The chilled Pellegrino was a nice touch. Our room had a sitting area which we made use of (Thistle Room). The hotel itself is within a five minute walk to everything - boutique type shops, restaurants, and bars. The towels are the softest I've ever used. The bed sheets felt like heaven. The office/guest room on the second floor was very useful and filled with a variety of toiletries, bottled water, snacks, a printer, copy paper, etc. The grounds are beautiful and the parking lot was helpful. Adriane's breakfast was amazing! She had the finest selection of teas, Starbucks coffee, homemade blueberry pancakes, sausage, fresh orange juice, yogurt, homemade scones, assorted fresh fruit. We didn't bring our dog, but knowing this bed and breakfast is dog friendly is a nice option for a future stay. I'm so glad we came. It was a nice, relaxing, romantic getaway from the kids and work and stress. We will definitely be returning. If you read these reviews, thank you Adriane!

Visited in late November. Very nice room (Statton Room). It was quiet and clean. Plenty of closet and dresser space for our clothing and gear. Adriane is a gracious host, along with Spencer the Springer Spaniel. Adriane prepares a wonderful breakfast. We liked the set time to serve breakfast. It would be a shame to prepare such a sumptuous breakfast and not have your guests at the table to enjoy hot off the griddle. We found plenty of interesting things to do and see in the area. We will return.
