Built in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in 1857, by well-known Philadelphia architect Louis Palmer, the Inn's four rooms and two suites combine local Victorian furnishings, antique quilts, historic books and artifacts, and authentic furnishings from the Archbishop of Canterbury. The result is an atmosphere that combines a touch of England with Victorian America.

This is a spectacularly beautiful and elegant Victorian bed and breakfast in the charming town center of Lewisburg. Because they are in the process of renovating part of this large mansion, it took some persistence to confirm our reservation, but it was definitely worth the effort. The owners, Charlie and Deborah, were incredibly friendly and gracious. We enjoyed their antique treasures and lovely interior designs in the living, dining, and bedroom spaces. Will always choose this again when we return! Best to reserve via email.

Since retiring, my wife and I have been traveling all over the US staying at bed & breakfasts. We choose to stay at them because they're unlike the cold and rigid chain hotels. As we plan our travels, we, like most people nowadays, read reviews to decide where to stay along our route. We've spent time in Lewisburg before, but weren't able to stay at the Pineapple Inn because they were full (now we understand why!).

When we got online to read reviews for this trip, we already knew we wanted to stay here, but decided to read some of the reviews anyway. Having now stayed at this truly incredible bed and breakfast, we are absolutely shocked at some of the disturbing reviews that some folks have posted. It might be naive to suggest that the worst of the reviews were submitted by an ignorant younger/corporate generation, but after clicking on a few of their "profiles" our assumptions were right. Though this is admittedly our first Trip Advisor review, please ignore these peoples' ignorance. We both agree that the Pineapple Inn is by far one of the best bed and breakfasts that we have stayed at anywhere in the US. Plain and simple. The innkeepers' hospitality was magnificent, the breakfast left us wanting to stay another night just to have seconds, the rooms are beautiful (my wife LOVED our clawfoot tub), and the rest of the house is full of history.

In short, if you are a true lover of travel, this is the place for you! If you're just looking for a place to sleep and a continental breakfast, stick with the cold hotel chains up on the highway. We highly recommend the Pineapple Inn and know that you will love it!

Each review here (justifiably) mentions the 'wonderful antiques' that grace the Pineapple Inn. It should be mentioned (also justifiably) many of the best were compliments of Robert (Bob) Shoemaker (deceased). Formerly the owner of Brandenburg House Antiques. I am sure the Inn is grateful to Bob.....what he left is truly elegant. His personal "closet" was filled with the best.

Ok people, lets get it straight. The innkeepers are nice but they don't want you there. It is the home where they live and if you stay there it is a huge inconvenience for them. For the duration of your stay, YOU ARE BEING WATCHED. There are no locks on the bedroom doors which adds a feeling of uneasiness to your nights sleep. Also, they kick you out of the Inn each day for 4 hours.. supposedly to clean your room. During the 4 hour ban, my wife and I waited in our car and joked on how they needed 4 hours to look through our belongings and rewind the video tape from the hidden spy camera in our bedroom. Of coarse this is most likely untrue, but that is the kind of feeling you get when staying at the Pineapple Inn.

Sleep in your car instead of here; at least you'll have saved your money. I should have paid attention to my instinct and the other recent reviews and not booked this inn.

The innkeeper did not return my phone call when I tried to cancel well within the accepted cancellation period, later saying his new telephone system wasn't working properly. Sounded too convenient.

When we called the day of arrival to see if we could check into our room before 4pm, he said I would not be able to check in until 6pm. We told him if we could not get into our room at 4pm as agreed, we would expect a lower rate for the room. At that point he threatened to cancel our reservation. I backed down as the other inns and hotels/motels in the area were already completely booked and he knew it. His was the only place with some of his 6 rooms still available. Now I realize why.

When we arrived at 4:30pm, he was telling another patron that her room was not ready either and that she should come back later when the room would be ready. We didn't get into our room until 5:30pm.

Breakfast the next morning: one empty coffee carafe that was never refilled. (Breakfast is served from 8am - 9am.) There was no homey spread of food, no fresh breads or pitchers of water and juice on the table. Like a drill sargeant, the innkeeper told people when they could sit down to eat and served everyone the exact same meal. No choices except granola or the single hot offering of the day. All the guests looked awkward, like frightened children in assigned seats, trying to be good as to not upset the taskmaster. He came out with the servings of food mysteriously from an adjacent room and hovered over guests to hurry things along when he felt they were staying too long at the table. I am sure his goal was to hasten their departure. It worked. Shortly after 9a.m., the inn was emptied of guests. (We were the last to leave.) And we're never going back.

I work in the travel industry and have stayed at many B&B's before. I found the Inn Keepers at the Pineapple Inn to be completely unprofessional, rude, and invasive. They over charged our stay, when calling to ask, they hung up and refused to speak to us about the charge. I would never stay here again, nor recommend this for anyone.

Boy am I sorry I didn't read ALL the previous reviews! We arrived around 5 and were told our room wasn't ready. He told us to sit on the couch which was about 4 inches off the ground and he stood over us, apparently stalling. We felt like bad kids in the principal's office and we're in our 50's! He told us of the no eating policy and how there had been horrible eating disasters in the past. He seemed horrified that we had a lunchbag cooler with us but we told him it only contained fruit. He said we must eat it downstairs and not in the room. Finally around 5:30 HE took our bags to the room. It wasn't the room I requested, (just the night before). He said the carpet in that room had been stained and that we should go to dinner and it would be ready when we got back. Came back at 6:45 and he told us to sit on the couch again as the room wasn't ready. 7:00 (3hrs after check-in) we became annoyed and told him we wanted to go to the room. He told us to go out again! Apparently while we were at dinner he moved our belongings out of the first room but forgot our clothes because another guest was found wondering the hallway with our clothes in hand! We explained to him we already paid for the room and expected to be in it and he told us we didn't pay for anything yet! 7:15 we left and had an enjoyable experience at the Hampton Inn. DO NOT USE THIS INN!!

If you are looking for a great place to stay in the area, go to the Selinsgrove Inn, in Selinsgrove. A short distance from Lewisburg. The service is exceptional. The owners are wonderful people. They really are customer service oriented. If you plan on making reservations at the Pineapple Inn in Lewisburg, make sure you understand that if an act of God hits and you are unable to make it the the Inn, they don't care and will still charge you. They don't even have the dignity to respond to you. Someday they may find themselves in the same situation and I hope they get the same treatment. So Lisa D I totally agree with you, stay somewhere else DO NOT USE THIS INN. Trust me go to the Selinsgrove inn. You will defintely want to go back again and again.

8 of us (2 couples and 4 friends) stayed here for our college reunion. Great location, comfy beds, tasty breakfasts.
We arrived shortly before 6pm (2 hours after check in started) and were told our rooms were not ready. We asked if we could just put our things in our rooms but were told no. We had been traveling for 4 hours and weren't even offered a bathroom to use! I was desperate and found one to use and then found out it was part of someone else's suite! Who knew, it was right off the dining room (and had an open door).
I agree with other posters that not allowing food in your rooms and requiring you to stay away for 4 hours in the afternoon (the 4 hours you would most want to come back and rest) are unusual and inconvenient. For a small B&B, it felt very anonymous.
We were told breakfast would be served from 8-9. We came down around 8:45 and had to wait til 9:30 for the other diners to finish so we could eat breakfast. Boy, it would have been nice to have been told we could wait till 9:30. The coffee was constantly empty--maybe they should have more than one small carafe of regular. There is a yummy looking selection of granola but no bowls were provided.
And another poster mentioned there are no locks on the doors....this isn't such a big deal in a town like Lewisburg. But I can tell you that when my parents stayed here 20 years ago, a man came into their room and climbed into bed next to my mom! It's a funny story now, but it does lead you to think maybe a key wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Maybe this place is better when it's not a reunion weekend, but to me it felt like they didn't really care if you liked your stay or not. I've stayed in plenty of B&Bs and haven't felt like this before.

My main complaint with this B&B is the lack of security. You are forbidden to lock your room door, even if you leave the B&B, you must leave your door open (with all your belongings free for the taking, and I mean actually open, not just unlocked). Even if you choose to trust the innkeeper, who could be staying in the next room? My husband and I actually locked our electronics and anything of value in our car because we felt it was safer there. When we first arrived at the B&B, the innkeeper disappeared with our bags for close to an hour! While the innkeeper was with our bags, we were forced to sit on a couch, about 6 inches off the floor, and stare at a random collection of antiques sprinkled awkwardly throughout the room and covered in a nice layer layer of dust. If you choose to enjoy the town past the innkeepers decided curfew, he will lock the B&B and you must call him in the middle of the night and ask to be let back into the B&B. I was so nervous about missing curfew that I set my phone alarm so that we were back in plenty of time. So we got back in time to have an awkard night sleep on an antique bed in an unlocked room. We woke, ate an average meal with the innkeeper watching us and left as quick as we could.

Answer from Charles N
Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
Yes, you are correct! The architectural style is Federalist. Another little fact: When the building was originally constructed in 1857, there was no front porch and the storefront next door was a secondary parlor!
