Just back from the Porth Avallen. It's in a lovely position in a private road on the cliffs overlooking Charlestown. There's an easy footpath down to Charlestown, it's not so easy back as it rises some 200 feet. It's slightly further to the beach at Carlyon. Our room at the back of the hotel was ok, nothing special but quiet!... More

We have just returned from Porth Avallen and had a great time. The Hotel is situated in a fantastic spot. The views are outstanding. The surrounding houses are just beautiful, it is just like a mini Sandbanks, Poole. Because the surrounding houses are stunning it makes the Hotel look a little dated and needs some internal decorating upstairs. Some reviewers... More

We were on a day trip las Tuesday and walked from Charles town to Carlyon bay. On the way back we were dinging for a drink and something to eat and we came across this hotel. The sign clearly says NON RESIDENTS WElCOME, so we decided to give it a go. I went to the bar and waited for 10... More

We were attending a wedding at a hotel down the road , and chose this hotel for a far more reasonable rate. On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly receptionist with fast, efficient checking in procedure (I had just left the wife at the wedding venue just previously perhaps 400metres away) and decided to walk afterwards not good... Stayed just one night on a business stop over. The views from this hotel are simply stunning with the added advantages of coastal walks from directly outside the hotel. To be brutally honest, the room was not the most modern and could do with a bit of tlc but this is only a minor fault. Despite this it was clean,... More

This wasn't our first choice of hotel but we were so glad that luck had brought us here. Our room had a beautiful view of this gorgeous bay which when we arrived was bathed in sunshine. The hotel staff were welcoming, delightful young women who really made us feel special and were prepared to find out everything we needed about... More

Spent 6 nights at porth avallen hotel. Initial thoughts of room were that it was slightly damp but overall fine. Staff were very friendly. The main reason behind giving the low rating was that on one day after sight seeing, arrived back at hotel room to find door was wide open, wedged by a chair. Leaving my belongings open for... More

Lovely hotel with pleasant friendly staff in a beautiful setting overlooking the bay. My single room was located at the side of the building but I was lucky in having an excellent sea view. Room was clean and had everything I needed for my stay. Perfectly situated for many of Cornwall's tourist attractions and at a very reasonable rate when... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights. The staff were very friendly, the main attraction being the owner George Abraham who was extremely friendly and efficient. The hotel overlooks Carlyon Bay. The hotel had been extended over the years and it seemed to be like a rabbit warren when locating our room as it was some way from reception..... More
