Our second visit to the the Duchy of Cornwall holiday cottages. Last time we stayed in the Diggery and this time Restormel Cottage. Unlike most of the cottages Restormel Cottage is not in the same location, being a short 10 minute walk away. The facilities.... heated pool, play area, tennis court etc are at the main complex so be prepared to walk in the event you plan to use the facilities. (Note: you can of course drive but the route means this probably takes a little longer than to walk).
The upside of Restormel Cottages location is it's right next door to the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery / Cafe which does a great cooked breakfast / cream tea! The walk is via a quiet, car free track so not a problem, unless raining of course. Also note due to COVID-19 restrictions you have to book individual use of the pool, although we had no issues getting the slots we requested. The pool is cleaned between each use and the staff appear to do a very thorough job.
The cottage and all the facilities are immaculate and well maintained. Given COVID-19 restrictions we had been warned that some of the ornaments, board games, DVDs etc would have to be removed from the cottage but this wasn't noticeable and didn't impact our enjoyment. (remember to bring your own scrabble!)
Restormel Cottage has it's own garden and parking for 2/3 cars so plenty of open space. Given its location it is much more private than the majority of the other cottages in the main complex.
We booked for 2 weeks and were welcomed with a small welcome pack on arrival and a further pack was delivered at the start of our second week which was a nice touch. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there was no cleaning / bedding changes made although we were provided with more than enough clean towels and bedding to last the full two weeks.
Overall Duchy of Cornwall Cottages are a 'safe bet' and whilst probably a little more expensive than some of the alternatives I would say worth the money. Of course, as is the case everywhere they are particularly expensive during the peak season / school holidays which is always frustrating for those of us with kids!
The only slight disadvantage of the cottages is their location i.e. they are not particulalrly near a beach. Par Sands, Fowey, Mawgan Porth, Padstow and even Newquay are all within reasonable driving distance however. We did consider a beach location for next year but decided that on balance the facilities available at Duchy of Cornwall outweigh a beach location but this is certainly worth considering if you are planning a beach holiday.

I really think this place is fantastic. A last refuge of civility, peace and quiet. I know there are tractors, trains and stuff but all in a wonderful setting and the Cottage had everything I could ever think needed. Your also left alone which was decidedly refreshing. The countryside is well tended from pigs to tree and I now have a great respect respect for staff and whoever may be in charge! One thing however, that eccentric wiring of the table lamp coming out of the floor needs moving!

We stayed in the Warricks and it was very pleasant and cosy. Two lovely private terraces. Lovely shared courtyard. Great shared pool and steam room. Set in beautiful grounds. It was a little pricey - I think the name adds to the overall price of the stay as the cottage is cosy and comfy but not luxurious. Overall a fantastic week and a good location to explore Cornwall.

I left a glowing review of Restormel manor and Cottages in 2016 after numerous stays in various cottages. This was when properties were under the management of James Scott. Unfortunately the management under Lisa Murdoch leaves a lot to be desired. We stayed in Barngate again and cannot fault the dedication of the housekeeping team and the pleasant interiors of the property. However there were a number of service problems. Firstly we were given incorrect check out times, secondly we were not given the timetables for the swimming pool prior to our arrival, leaving us with limited choice choice of only 5 different hour slots to use the pool for the whole week, with entire days of it being unavailable, due to the prior bookings of renters who HAD been given the timetable in advance of their stay. The main issue however was that the management refused our repeated requests to delay our departure due to Storm Eunice, billed as the worst storm to hit in 30 years. A red, danger to life, weather warning which advised against all but essential travel had been issued by the Met office. The red warning was from 7am until 12 midday. Consequently we were forced to leave amid gusts of up to 100mph, falling branches, flying debris and blocked roads. Our children were terrified. As we left the property at 10am the management offered a place but this would have entailed trying to get there in the height of the storm down an unpassable tree lined road. It was too little, too late- despite having been regular visitors to Restormel manor and cottages over the past 11 years. we are unlikely to return when the current management care so little for the safety and well being of their guests.

Been to Harris Cottage a few times. Ideal base to take advantage of everything Cornwall has to offer, even in February. Cosy accommodation for two people with all mod cons and excellent wi-fi. Selection of goodies provided on arrival, the housekeepers make sure everything is immaculate and warm for you.

Though it’s quite pricey the duchy is definitely a lovely place to stay and worth it . I come here every year pretty much and love it .It includes a lovely pool, games room, sauna and steam room . It also has a lovely(and challenging) walk up to the garden centre. Lovely place wether it’s the manor or cosy cottages and rooms overall pretty clean

Terrific little cottage for two people. Great location to enjoy Cornwall. Handy for beaches and restaurants. Facilities are excellent, all mod cons and immaculately clean. Little garden to enjoy a bbq and a glass of wine. Nothing not to like, back in October.

We had a week in a Duchy cottage on the Restormel estate recently. The cottages are expensive compared with some other holiday properties and so our expectations were correspondingly high.
Our stay was, we thought, rather impersonal. We were told in the blurb we'd been sent not to arrive until after 4pm on the Saturday afternoon, so we duly turned up about 4.30. You have to leave your car in the car park rather than outside your property (and for most of the properties this would not be possible in any event) so this means trotting backwards and forward to unload - ok if it's not raining, but sadly it was.The car park itself is not a tarmac surface, and there are areas where people park which can be muddy when you are getting things out of the car. There is nobody to greet you personally on arrival or shortly afterwards, and so in effect you arrive, have your holiday and pack up and go.
The kitchen was well equipped and there was a welcome pack with 4 scones, strawberry conserve and cream as well as some apple juice and milk. There was also a personal welcome card from the cleaning team which was a nice touch.
The lounge in our cottage (and presumably all the other cottages) was comfortable enough although we thought the lounge/kitchen area was very dark, so much so that you need lights on during the day. The advertising video makes it seem much lighter and brighter inside than it actually is. For our particular taste the king sized bed was firm bordering on hard while the twin beds were really soft.
We didn't use the swimming pool or tennis courts, although we peeked through the window at the pool and this looked very nice. Clearly, these facilities add to the rental cost.
We found the cottage to be a good base for visiting local places e.g. Fowey, Mevagissey, Looe and Padstow. We also ventured further to St Ives one day.

Stayed here for a week in a 2 bedroom cottage. The furnishings and quality of amenities are excellent. The welcome pack is a nice touch with scones, cookies, tea, clotted cream, small milk provided. Plus the kitchen is kitted out with everyday items like washing up liquid, foil, cling film, dishwasher tablets, washing powder etc. So the need to pack so much less is a bonus. All the main supermarkets also do grocery delivery here. Plus all towels provided including pool towels and Molton Brown travel set very nice!
There is a small car park and you can bring your car a bit nearer to unload. Wi-fi is fast when it works, we had some connection issues and the team fixed it as soon as possible. The kitchen could have been a bit more cleaner, some debris in cupboard and kettle. Rest of the place was reasonably spotless.
It really is quiet if you just want to chill, Lostwithiel is a good place to explore both South and North Cornwall. Bodmin is near as well as St Austell. You can just about see Restormel Castle from the cottages at the top of the hill, very short drive or walk away. The best asset is the indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Not crowded and free use everyday.
It meets the five stars and the price reflects this, although in peak summer not sure the cost would be justififed. In Spring it is more value.
Overall great place to stay and very family friendly.

"Various accommodation to suit your budget but there's always the credit card! We will be in the Manor House next year as it cannot be compared. The river bubbling away outside the kitchen, the steam train puffing by and the tremendous views from EVERY window. "
