Comfortable and welcoming in a country location but convenient for local restaurants in Swindon and in Wooton Bassett. M4 is minutes away giving access to Swindon Bristol Newbury and Reading. Has its own restaurant and bar and comfortable rooms. Recommended for a peaceful stay out of town

All was nice but the food really was excellent! Attention to detail, good service, lovely main course (duck with forest fruit) served with 9 different delicious vegetables. Deserts were special! All very high standard and freshly prepared with love and care. Room was cosy, simple but comfortable and adequate. Super breakfast! Enough convenient parking, close to Lydiard Park which is... This reminded me of holidays taken in Scotland when I was too young to care where it appeared that you were doing the hoteliers a favour by staying with them. I certainly got the impression that the propieters have made the rules to suit them and if you don't like it, you can lump it... Any thoughts of venturing out... More

Stayed here 1 night as a stop over on business travels. The owner checked us in - incredible warm welcome. The rooms are incredible, one of the comfiest hotel beds I have ever stayed in. The room was very quiet despite being ground floor, facing the road, I had absolutely no issues with noise at all! Dinner was a bit... More

I stayed for two nights as I had business in nearby Swindon. The hotel is a gorgeous old building, I particularly liked the dining room with its beautiful Windows and high ceiling. I was greeted at the door by Karen and Fred who were very welcoming. Karen was very attentive and always smiling! I had a meal in the restaurant... More

I really don't know what to make of this hotel as its better than average but not sure would rate as very good due so things that clearly wouldn't work for some people Booked in for 3 nights and met buy the owner and Fred the dog and very friendly welcome The room but dated with oldish pine furniture and... I am still smarting from this place! Welcome? The dog was the most welcoming being there. 'School ma'am' is the 'endearing' name used by others on this site...'offhand dinner lady' more correct...write down your card No which they already have? Room-find it yourself...not easy when it has two names?!! Once inside-dank. Furniture-comedy 'great depression' plywood tat. If you're going for... More

We booked this hotel through a site that frequently advertises on TV. The price was cheap. We soon found out why. Our suspicions should have been aroused by the hotel, after taking the booking, a few days later, asking for our arrival time, even though the terms say up to 10pm. Never experienced such a belated request before. We arrived... More

We had a little break here last year when we went to the Luna Cinema at Lydiard Park. We had a beautiful, large, clean room and 3 course meal that was absolutely delicious. Can't fault the place. Also, such an easy walk to Lydiard Park, would definitely recommend it.

Booked the Schoolhouse Hotel at very short notice for a single night stay while passing through Swindon. Lovely countryside setting and a warm welcome from Karen and Fred in late afternoon. The room was comfortable and large but the television was a bit small to view from the bed. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room but these are... More
