We arrived late afternoon during the week and were immediately made to feel at home. We were allocated a lovely ‘cosy room’ in Room 5 which we checked out. It had a lovely feel to it with a double step up to a cute bathroom but had a shower and we wanted a bath.

We went down and requested a room with a bath and we’re given Room 3, which was perfect. Double glazed so no irritating draughts from the sash windows and no noise from the outside either.

We went down for our choice of breakfast and both decided to have the full English with our choice of toast. We were also given freshly squeezed orange juice and I mean freshly squeezed, it was awesome. We stayed in another expensive hotel very nearby and were only given carton juice there so BIG POINTS won here!!!

The breakfast was good however I’m really fussy about bacon and sausages and tbh although locally sourced they were both bland I’m afraid, so sorry. I told you I was fussy 🫣

We returned to our room and were given a late checkout which was very kind as I had a very long drive home so very grateful.

I summation, really great stay and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Devizes. Thank you SO much and we will definitely visit again, maybe next week?

Stayed for one night on a business trip. Venue is lovely, no ghosts reported as some internet searches would have you believe! The shower was excellent which is hard to find in some places, and beautiful toiletries supplied in the bathroom. Some noise from the courtyard at the rear but not excessive, still managed to get to sleep fine. Room was clean but a little dusty if I’m being picky. Had a lovely dinner in the restaurant. Was a bit of a delay for the main meals but we weren’t in a rush. There was an apology for this when food was delivered even though we had made no enquiries as to where the food was, so it was acknowledged the wait was longer than expected. Breakfast was also delicious. Staff were helpful and friendly. The building is old and has heaps of character. Wonky floors and different height stairs so bear that in mind if you have mobility or balance issues! (This is not a criticism I love places like this but like to be comprehensive) Overall would recommend and would stay again.

We were made to feel very welcome on arrival. The room was lovely and clean and fresh, with a lovely range of toiletries. The breakfast was freshly cooked and 100%, with the added option of a breakfast cocktail for an extra £6... a lovely idea! Nothing was too much trouble. We will be back :)

Visited here on New Years Eve for a meal and a few drinks, and definitely glad that we did. The food was some of the best that I have tasted, and the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, despite the fact that we had not booked in advance. Prices are very reasonable for both food and drink, and we will certainly be returning and telling others about this little gem.

Firstly cannot fault staff or quality of food. Great location and the vintage theme in accommodation rooms is fine. Hospitality tray in room and access to cold fresh water and milk is a bonus. Sadly though our room was not clean. The bed linen was crisp and white but our whole experience overshadowed by disgusting state of tv handset, spillages on the back of the door, the toilet needing a good dose of bleach, unpleasant smell in the shower room that lingered in the bedroom too. On top of that had booked via an agency and then discovered we could have got a B&B rate direct. We paid £30 for breakfast, which was lovely but other guests had an inclusive deal. Our room rate was above, in our opinion, what it should have been anyway. (That’s our issue of course). Food was lovely and Black Swan has a reputation for good food, so much so that as a resident tables for a quiet drink were not available. We did appreciate our drink cost removed from our bill as we had to take it up to our “cosy” but smelly room for the evening. The roast dinner scrumptious and service wonderful but overpriced given the average price locally. I did mention all of this on departure and understand they’ve had a busy time but that shouldn’t really impact on hygiene. Hopefully this will all be sorted for future guests.

Such a wonderful place to stay. Steph and her team made us feel extremely welcome and catered for our every need, with a beautiful and cosy room, fresh towels daily, a luxurious tray of tea, fresh coffee and biscuits waiting for us every day as well as delicious food! Breakfast was outstanding, served with a smile and nothing too much trouble. The hotel itself is beautiful and we didn't want to go home! We can't recommend highly enough!

This is a beautiful traditonal pub that is extremely well run. All the staff are great; so welcoming and happy to help. The cask ales are kept perfectly and the food is absolutely delicious (I definitely recommend the roast pork for Sunday lunch).

We were equally impressed with our room above the pub/restaurant. Clean, comfortable and peaceful. A very generous selection of tea and coffee is provided and entering our room with the lamp and radio on playing some classical music was a lovely touch.

Thank you to all the staff. We'll definitely stay again if returning to beautiful Devizes.

It is a lovely old pub with excellent, helpful, courteous staff and a great Chef and menu. We went as a cycling group and they kindly stored our bikes overnight in one of the function rooms. The bedrooms were very comfortable and well-equipped. A great place to stay and eat, with decent ales too!
