Certaldo is a tiny fortified hilltop village in Tuscany. This hotel is just as ancient with simple but comfortable rooms and lots of open terraces for dining and relaxing. Rooms are €90 with breakfast. The owner is Alfred who is a laid back character with stories to tell. We would stay here again.

Three years in a row in Certaldo Alto , all three times I stayed at Alfred's place. No reason to go elsewhere. Nice place, excellent staff, great coffee, music.... I'll be back next year again for sure. Ciao Belle

We recently visited Certaldo for our wedding, we booked out the entire hotel and what an excellent choice. Alfred was outstanding, his communication was superb before we even arrived and offered assistance on all sorts of odd queries from us. We loved it at il Castello and hope to return one day.

What an amazing view of Tuscan hill country from our room (#1). The outdoor dining area is spectacular. The service is good, rooms are large enough, our bathroom was typical, however most of the other rooms have remodeled spacious bathrooms.

Back again at Albergo Il Castello one year later.... The place is just as pleasant as before and a treat to stay at. The music, the morning cappuccino, Alfred, the clean rooms, the garden, the location and views, etc all continue to make this a great play to stay. Staying at Il Castello is like the icing on the Tuscan... More

We stayed at Il Castello for ten days, seven of them with my husband’s art instructor and fellow art students. We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet, whistle-clean, well-appointed room, which overlooked the town and rolling green hills beyond, and in the afternoons we loved to drift from the patio (with its ten free-range tortoises) to the street-side bistro tables with their... This friendly, comfortable & unpretentious hotel is right beside the top of the funiculare overlooking the town. It's position is perfect; on one side the view over the town of Certaldo and the Tuscan hills to the West, on the other a view straight up the main street of this tiny medieval town of Certaldo Alto to the fortified 'vicarage'.... When my daughter got married in Certaldo Alto my sister, parents of the groom and I stayed at this wonderful little hotel. Alfred, the manager/owner and his staff were charming, friendly and completely at our service, nothing was too much trouble for them. Alfred plays the piano in the bar and charms everyone. I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough... More

This venue provided far and above the most pleasant experience one could ever expect. Hats off to Alfred and his staff for making us feel ever so relaxed and comfortable during our 4 night stay. We stayed in room #2 with the wonderful view of the lower city. The sounds, the charm and the atmosphere will always be in my... More
