As a solo traveller, Hotel Estrella was a nice change of pace from the usual hostel atmosphere. The older and rustic building added character, and the central location, simplicity and cleanliness made it a nice home base for my week in San Juan del Sur. I had an lovely experience with the family who owns the hotel; they were friendly,...

Nice and cheap hostel with an amazing view, as it is right by the beach. the building is pretty old but very charming. The only minus is that the toilets and showers are downstairs which can be rather annoying at night. Breakfast is yummy and the owner was nice too. clean rooms but unfortunately without a bin. the balcony is...

We've spent the past week here at Estrella and it feels like we've struck gold! Having only stumbled on the property in our quest to save money during our time in San Juan, we have been increasingly impressed by the charm and inherent beauty of his little gem. In some ways the hotel itself almost presents an opportunity to travel...

My girlfriend and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Estrella and really enjoyed our stay. Sure, the place is not the most modern (which is part of its charme) and lacks a communal kitchen, but we enjoyed the quiet and relaxed atmosphere, the three choices of included breakfast, our balcony with prime sunset view of the ocean and the low...

So I was just reading the reviews for this hotel and me and my husband were laughing because we saw a lot of consistencies with our experience..However,it has to be asked, what do you expect for a $20 a night hotel? We arrived and just turned up with no plans and the owner and her son greeted us very politely actually...

I travel to many place and have a great tolerance for low budget accommodations. I don't expect much when I only pay $15 per night. This was one of the worst experiences. The service and staff were extremely rude. Would not even answer questions about bus routes or local info. The room leaked water onto the bed during the rain...

this hotel is a little rundown, but has a good view of the water if you have the room with the balcony facing the ocean. the woman that works there (owner possibly?) speaks no English and isn't overly polite/nice. we didn't have any issues but I can understand why many people do. the bathrooms are fine (no hot water showers),...

Me and two other friends stayed here in May. They gave us a 4-single bed dorm with a balcony. Price was great for peak season (USD 15). Breakfast was included and they let you choose among 3 different dishes (all of them really good). On the down side, bathrooms are on the 1st floor and all the rooms are on...

We stayed here for 10 days then returned and stayed another 2 weeks, needless to say we really liked it. Discounted rates are offered when you stay for longer periods of time, so we got a double room with balcony and ocean view for $20/night total, including a free breakfast (from a choice of 3). The best part about this...

Most of the rooms here have amazing balconies looking out over the ocean. Its also well priced with including breakfast. When we arrived we didnt know how long we were staying. So when we said we werent staying 2 nights (before we had checked in or booked etc) and just 1 night the really rude hostess downgraded us to a...
