You don't know if you are sleeping in a hotel or a museum and that's great fun for the place had character! Rooms are medium size, well equiped, bathrooms perfectly OK, low season breakfast perhaps on the economical side of things... Odd having groups of french tourists trying to get into one's room as part of the visit...

old restored complex. You can simply visit it and then I would say "nice old museum" Unfortunately we spent 2 nights there. The room is dark and hot. Very unpractical as old furniture always stands where you don't want it stand. Double bed (very hard matress) is OK for 1 person , certainly not for two (one has to climb over the other if need to go out) Bathroom as unpractical. Personal very unfriendly. Does not even look at you . The one leading us to our room explained our guide "this we could take, this we could use but not take". At check out we had to wait until a kind of matron checked the room to see if we had not taken what we could only use. Chinese breakfast is outside with a coupon, "western" breakfast is inside in a dirty room and consist of toast (no other choice) with one kind of marmelade . The complex seems to be run by the government.

We tried to stay here and even went to the museum reception to book a room for our return journey from the rice terraces. The staff were totally unhelpful. When we asked our guesthouse owner at the rice terraces he suggested we didn't stay here as this was a government hotel and the staff 'just didn't care'. Obviously we had already discovered that. It is also very very expensive, CNY480.

Maybe you have been Suzhou Garden near Shanghai, however, should you visit YUNNAN, I do suggest to come to JIANSHUI town, to feel the less developed town, to taste Toufu BBQ, to see the second biggest Confusion temple which has over 700 years. This garden is wonderful representative of local building and art. 江南有苏州园林,云南有朱家花园。少了湿润的空气,多了湛蓝的天空,相同的是独具匠心的布局与装饰,不同的是各地民风浸润出的色彩与艺术

We stayed for two nights at Zhu Family Garden Hotel. The place is amazing and, during the evening, when the tourists are gone and the lights are turned on, the atmosphere is magic. Our room was not very big, but clean and the bathroom was new, with a courtesy set (comb, razor, toothbrush, shower cup, slippers). The airdryer is also provided. Note that there is no heating in the room (anyway it was not too cold for us). Continental breakfast is included (coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit, bred, eggs). Only one person of the staff we met speaks english (and she was not there all the time). We recommend it.
