This place is a gem. Lovely house. Comfy beds, quiet bedrooms, spacious sitting rooms, excellent breakfast, great location to explore the historical area. We stayed just one night and wish we could have stayed longer.
We stayed at City House for just one night, en route from Pittsburgh to NYC. What a great find! It was so nice to stay in a home like this while on the road - definitely more intimate than a large chain hotel. Room was super comfortable and quiet. The inn is on a road that can be busy, but the windows are solid and keep the noise out (I’m a light sleeper). The beds are really comfortable and the bathroom had a huge shower. Everything in this historic home has been renovated to a high standard. Communication from the hotel was excellent, and the morning breakfast was such a nice treat. And Harrisburg was a surprise … very nice small city. We will be back on our next NY-PA road trip!!
The place is so convenient and you can walk to all the place you want to visit. It is in front of the river too! If you are a hiker, you can enjoy your hiking in the morning and in the evening when it is not that hot. The bed is so comfy and the breakfast is excellent! I will definitely stay here when I come back to visit and recommend this place to my friends.
Excellent place to stay. Accommodation very comfortable and modern. Clean and vert well maintained, Staff (Carolyn) delightful and welcoming. Breakfast plentiful and exceptionally good. Cannot recommended highly enough
My niece and I had a peaceful mini getaway at City House. Our time there also included some wonderful Yoga. From the beautiful location on the Susquehanna River to outstanding guest services, we couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you Erica and Carolyn for making us feel at home, right down to meeting a couple of dietary needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the special touches that make City House a superior bed-and-breakfast. Also worth mentioning is the close proximity to Hershey, PA, which allowed us to easily visit the lovely Hershey botanical garden.
My wife and I stayed here for one night while traveling from Long Island to Northern Virginia. It’s roughly half way. I’m not usually a B&B fan but this one was great. It’s immaculate. It sits right on the Susquehanna River near the center of Historic Harrisburg. Very attentive service from Carolyn. Nice breakfast.
We generally do not stay in Bed and Breakfast accommodations. Pleased that we decided to stay here during our few days in Harrisburg. City House is not only well situated next to the Susquehanna River close to The Capital Building between the two historic centers, more importantly it is comfortable and Carolyn, the Innkeeper made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. From the call the day before our arrival to ask if there was anything she could do to accommodate our dietary needs at breakfast, to her always cheerful disposition, Carolyn’s customer service was quintessential, the epitome of what hospitality should be. Breakfasts were multi optioned and beyond any we’ve ever encountered for the Breakfast part of Bed and Breakfast. One morning, in addition to scrambled eggs and sausage links, Carolyn made baked oats. I left with the recipe. The second morning, bacon and French Toast were served alongside eggs baked in individual cast iron skillets with thyme, butter, cream, and Parmesan cheese. Plus Greek yogurt with fresh berries. Our room, called Helen, was well appointed and well sized. There was room on both sides of the (king sized) bed, plenty of flat areas on which to put things, a carafe of water in the mini fridge with real glasses from which to drink it, and a spacious bathroom with a large shower; towels were big and thick; many light options and heat. The common areas were also large and comfortable. One night after returning from a long day, we sat in the living room and put together a 300 piece puzzle we had found on the shelf - for us another comfort of home. Should we find ourselves returning to Harrisburg, we’d stay here without any hesitation. And it is a lovely city!…
What a great place to stay if you want to relax. Dee & Carolyn went out of their way to accommodate us & see to every detail. Breakfasts were delicious & the sun room was a great place to have a glass of wine at night & enjoy the riverfront view. Great location to walk to various restaurants, the gorgeous Capitol & the Riverwalk. Thanks for making our trip Harrisburg & the City House so memorable & fun.
We enjoyed our stay at City House. The view, the room, the breakfast, and our wonderful innkeeper Dee made our stay wonderful for a weekend retreat. Their attention to detail, clear instructions, and ability to meet our needs made it a place we will return to when we can.
What a great short stay we had, they really nailed the 'breakfast' part of the Bed and Breakfast! Not to mention that the bed was super comfortable and the whole place is just cozy. Would love to stay here again next time I'm in Harrisburg, PA.
