Not a 5star hotel, but enjoyed my stay in this historic Inn. The floors creaked a bit and the room I had was small. But what do you expect from a pub built around 1190 and on a road that has been there since before Hadrian's Wall. The beer was good and so were the evening meals and the full... More

We stayed at the Red Lion this weekend (20th August) for a site-seeing trip to Hadrian's Wall. I heartily recomend this hotel, a tiny place that used to be a coaching in. The rooms were very clean and comfortable if a little small but you have to understand that the place was built several centuries ago!, (An Inn has been... More

Spent one night last week and got to say just excellent. Clean comfortable room at a very fair price but perhaps the best part was the more than excellent food . Unexpected perfection well done and we will be back ( we hope ) ! Thank you . Very good location for a walk on the wall

Lovely little stay,I stopped over for a business trip , The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing ,I didn't expect it to be so good . Accommodation was basic, clean ,tidy and comfortable . The views were very beautiful and scenic.

We stayed here during cycling so we had 2 rooms in different ends of the pub. It is a pub so if you have the room over the bar, expect some noise until late. This room also had an unpleasant smell which was a shame because the other room was great and perfect for our stay. The staff were very... More

We often stop at Red Lion for tea / coffee when cycling. Great country pub with 3 local real ales and excellent menu. Sunday dinner recently, superb. Now has letting bedrooms. One bar room is big display of local material & information, as pub is on ancient Roman road. Staff always friendly & welcoming.

Often go there for a light lunch, superb food, fresh and full of flavour, beautifully presented. Excellent choice and cooked to perfection, some of it reminds me of top notch French food. Relaxing friendly atmosphere and good ales too.

The red lion offers great food and a good atmosphere. The service is brilliant and we always feel welcome. It's popular so you need to book ahead. They offer a rotisserie which is good value and tastes amazing. You can eat in the bar or restaurant and dogs are welcome , which is a real bonus

We occupied 4 of the 5 rooms available. The standard of the rooms were quite nice and very clean. The dinner and breakfast were very good. However, the personell were not very outgoing and friendly. Maybe a bit shy, but it would have been nice to have seen some smiling.

We were on the coast to coast bike ride & chose this as a half way point to stay. 3 couples so 3 rooms for the party. All the rooms were very well equipped & decorated. 1 or 2 found the beds to be on the firmside.. The real highlight is the food. We were there on a Sunday night,... More
