We just returned from a last minute trip to Tara
We stayed mid week and took advantage of a great deal
We stayed in the General Robert E Lee room
When we arrived our room was ready
We unpacked and hit the pool
We had the pool to ourselves but soon met a few other couples staying there
We had a great time chatting with them and enjoying the great weather
We ate dinner off site . Ashley’s and the bar are closed due to Covid
We really missed the Atlantic bar . The chocolate martinis are the best
Breakfast at Ashley’s is included and was great as usual
We walked around the grounds and visited the Swan , beautiful but a little nasty lol
We talked to the groundskeeper who was filled with info
We really enjoyed talking with him
We again spent the day in the pool with our new friends
It was one of the gentleman’s birthday and we celebrated with them with cocktails and cake
We had a wonderful time with wonderful people
We also got to meet Mrs Donna Miller and her pup Dixie
What a personable welcoming host
She is very sweet and so nice to chat with
The second night we ate at Stonewall Tavern
The meal and martinis were perfect
We so enjoyed our stay
It was perfect
Even with the Covid restrictions , which we were worried might ruin our trip did anything but
We can’t wait to return

OK. . .we have been to quite a few inns like Tara (Natchez, Charleston, etc) and can say without a doubt that this has become our favorite place. We were disappointed that the formal dinner was scrapped due to virus, but we loved the Stonewall Tavern for dinner. The breakfasts were so nice since you actually got a menu to choose items from (sometimes, you get what ya get!). We stayed in Rhett's room--only comment would be that the shower was a bit small; but gosh, the jetted tub made up for it! And what a welcome; we so enjoyed the champagne and treats. We felt SPOILED! And yes, we came home and made another reservation. Who would have known that a historic antebellum type inn would be 3 hours from our location in Ohio? Why didn't someone tell me about this place 20 years ago?!!!

Very nice venue. "Gone with the Wind" buffs will especially enjoy the property. We stayed in Belles Boudoir and had a wonderful stay. We didn't make the afternoon tea as we opted instead for a swim in the indoor pool and then the sauna. The champagne punch at the reception was excellent. After a drink in the bar we headed off to dinner at the Stonewall Tavern where we dined on shrimp cocktail , fillet mignon and lobster tail. Dessert was Strawberry cheesecake. Sunday we enjoyed coffee while sitting in one of the many common areas then on to Sunday brunch, which was excellent! The only negative I can list from our visit is all the stairs. This venue is billed as a period/historical place so I understand the lack of an elevator. Just wanted to point out that if you have mobility problems you should make sure you are on the first floor.

We have been to Tara before, this is our third time. The social distancing is good, not over crowded, and everyone is wearing a mask in the common areas. The rooms and facilities are clean and well cared for. The staff works very hard and responds quickly to most requests. We ordered ice several times during our stay and there was very little time that we had to wait. It is nice that you can select your room ,every room has a different theme but similar amenities. The WiFi works well but is not secured. there is a DVD player in all the rooms for movie watching. we brought our own. The cable was not very good, there are no exclusive movie channels like HBO ,but there are channels that have movies with commercials. There seem to be a lot of sport channels and children channels. For the most part it was very quiet, there isn’t a lot of noice The air conditioning was noisy on high but not too bad on lower fan levels . It is an older building, but well maintained. The water is well water, they do provide bottled water and a nice welcome tray. we had a nice romantic dinner in the Stonewall Tavern. Nice lighting and obi once. We have eaten there before ,the food has been good in the past ,the presentation was always good and tasted very good, always good selections of meals . If you get the package the meals are included ,you only pay extra for the drinks. Drink prices are comparable to other upper class restaurants. Breakfasts has always been good, the french toast was on the thick side and a little chewy but tasted good. The second night we went down to the Stonewall tavern but it must of been booked so were were take-up to the Ashley room, This is the room were they normally serve 7 course meals . We had the same menu as the night before, The meals we ordered looked good but every thing we were served was cold, barely warm. The waitress worked very hard and the meal was very well timed. when your up stair every thing had to be transported up stairs from down stars kitchen. I felt sorry for the waitress. The meal was very disappointing, the difference was the warmth of the food. We have never had this experience before. Maybe they are under staffed because of the covid 19 virus,I am not sure. we over heard other people voicing there opinions about the food at the front deck also,so we were not the only ones with this experienced . We had a nice week end , this inn is very expensive, we don’t get to come here very often because we’re both on limited incomes. It’s a-shame the food ruined our experience.

Over the last six years my wife and I have gone to Tara at least three times a year, and over the course of time we have seen a definite decline in service, and the accommodations in general.
On a previous occasion I couldn't get a small wall cabinet open to adjust the thermostat. ( I could have used a lot more force but was afraid to damage anything ) When the head of maintainance came to my room he looked at me as he forced it open and said " it wasn't that hard ".
But the biggest problem ( other than nothing seems updated since it was renovated in the 80's ) is a lack of proper cleaning.
We almost always get the same room, ( SWEET MAGNOLIA BLOSSOM ) there were cobwebs in several places on the ceiling and light fixtures, several glass top tables had water marks from previous occupants and did not look like they had been cleaned at all,the flooring was bowed at least six inches high under the air conditioner, the filter on the air conditioner was filthy, the floor itself was dirty, and the windows looked as if no one had cleaned them in years.
I would expect this from a budget hotel, but not from a five star Bed and Breakfast.
At this point I can't say we could recommend Tara to anyone till they can show improvement in these areas,

I booked this place in January, pre COVID, they are observing mandatory COVID regulations. We wanted to spend our vacation dollars in PA this year as we live in PA. We stayed in Rhett's room which was very very nice. The only downside to that room was all the stairs, historic Inn no elevator and having to wear a mask made the stairs more difficult because more difficult to see. Everyone on the staff was quite friendly and we even met the General Manager at dinner the first night. We were staying there to celebrate our fifth anniversary and the General Manger was also eating there that evening to celebrate his anniversary as well. We enjoyed that very large amount of breakfast choices, breakfast is included and very large portions, I can't eat that much anymore and felt badly that I couldn't finish my breakfasts. I had also made reservations for the three nights we stayed for dinner. The food is great, the accommodations are great. Enjoyed the whirlpool in our room, the bed was fantastic, we both slept quite soundly. We loved the outdoor pool, they also have an indoor pool. Beautiful grounds, great front porch with deep seating, large gazebo, and lakeside, Lake Shenango, so nice breeze coming off the lake. Very quiet as well. I highly recommend and would love to return someday, but will probably book a room on the first floor next time. They have great photos on their website.

If you need to get away during this difficult time I highly recommend Tara. The resort is beautiful, relaxing and quiet. The grounds are incredible. My husband and I walked around outside several times during our weekend. Never encountered one other person! So relaxing and beautiful. Make sure you go see Swanny in his pond!
We also walked to the lake which was only a few minutes away and enjoyed the beauty. In doors is breathtaking. The attention to detail and beautiful furnishings really are remarkable.
We stayed in the room Hearts of the South and loved it and the solitude. Everything in the Inn is spotless and beautiful. We ate at Stonewall's for dinner both nights we were there and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere and food - truly delicious and incredible. Thanks to our server Debby who was so friendly and made us feel at home. Breakfast was also amazing. Thanks to Shelly for the great service during our weekend. Had Sunday Brunch in the Old South Armory and everything was so good. Amazing amount of choices. All you do is show them what you would like at the buffet and they serve it on your plate. The choices were plentiful. One of the best brunches we have ever had. The food is very good and portions are also.
When I booked Tara I spoke to Betsy who was very warm and welcoming, it was so wonderful to meet her in person!
The Inn also has a beautiful outdoor and indoor pool.
Cannot wait to go back to this beautiful getaway. If you have time while you are there take 25 minutes and drive to Volant PA. Beautiful quaint town with shops in houses. Volant Winery is open and doing tasting on wine and hard cider outside. We spent a few hours here tasting their wonderful wine and cider. Very easy to distance there and really a wonderful time.

Tara is our home away from home. My husband and I love to spend time at this relaxing bed and breakfast that pampers you from the minute you arrive at their beautiful front door. The rooms are luxurious and comfy and the staff are all so friendly and accommodating. The food is delectable in Stonewall’s Tavern and morning breakfast or the Sunday buffet are to die for ! (Too many yummy foods to describe in one description! ) Some may say the Tara experience is too expensive... I say everyone deserves to indulge and spoil themselves every once in awhile. We have been visiting here once a year ( and sometimes twice) for nearly 25 years and Tara NEVER disappoints!

An absolute must for a romantic getaway!! We stayed one night (Friday to Saturday) and cannot wait to go back. The red carpet was rolled out from the minute we arrived. Such a magical place due to the history of the mansion and the Winner family. A beautiful complimentary welcoming tray of champagne, cheese, single rose and personalized cookie was waiting for us in our suite. We experienced high tea with elegant sandwiches and baked goods as everything is made on-site in their bakery. There was complimentary champagne punch available, as well as, cheese and crackers. We ate a fabulous steak and lobster dinner in the Tavern and received a 5-star complimentary breakfast the next morning (many choices like eggs Benedict and smoked salmon). The staff was warm, welcoming, hospitable, friendly, responsive, well-mannered, polite, attentive, etc. I could keep going on and on . . . they made you feel like you were the only person in the whole hotel. We were treated like royalty every step of the way. We truly enjoyed the accommodations and stayed in the Rhett Butler Suite. Loved the fireplace! Perfect place to relax with your loved one and enjoy each other's company.

My friend and I like to take girls weekends a few times a year. We like to find new B&B's or Inn to explore when we go. We stumbled across this place and were intrigued by the style of home and the Gone with the Wind theme. We figured we would give it a try.
First it is a lovely property. When we checked in we were surprised by a glass of champagne and a nice tour of the common spaces by the staff. All the staff is great by the way. In our room we had a lovely welcome tray with lots of goodies and more champagne. It was a welcome surprise and a good way to kick off our weekend.
Afternoon tea was a nice treat and we got a chance to meet some other guests that way and have a conversation. Don't worry all was done safely with COVID if that is a concern. The house has some really interesting antiques. There is always something to look at or explore.
The room itself was nice. Clean, soft bed, good linens, and a nice modern bathroom . The jetted tub we didn't use but liked the option. We also really liked that their was an onsite restaurant. Breakfast was good (with lots of options to choose from) and loved the paint mural on the wall in the breakfast room.
Again service and staff top notch. They even kept my leftovers from dinner in the fridge and gave me when I checked out. Its definitely better and more interesting than just an average B&B with the style and history of the place. The only reason its not a 5 for me is that there are some things that could use a little updating or fix. Like the doors to the room. Our mini blinds were plastic and bent. The fireplace was nice but the tile around it felt like something from the 90's and not in character with the home. Even though the antiques overall were great, some pieces in the room felt a little much and out of place.
Still these we had a great time and would recommend and will probably visit again someday.

All of our rooms have either a king or queen sized bed and we have 12 that also have a sofa bed. Thank you.
I’m sure they are decorated through new years day; but we just cancelled our reservation in December since Pennsylvania requires a covid test to enter their state. If you live in PA, no worries, I guess!
We have always purchased a package for our stays at Tara. If you call Tara, I’m sure they will be happy to answer any questions you have.
