We had a great early fall week in Cook's Forest and cozy cabin #1 was the perfect place to stay for my wife and I. The cabin is one of the newest at Hominy Ridge and was the perfect size for 2. It was very quiet in the back part of the property. The owner's made sure it was exceptionally clean and sanitized and are taking extra steps to keep all guests safe. The location is perfect for access to all Cook's Forest hikes and activities.

I would have given this a 5 if their hot tub had been open like they advertised and even showed on the sign as you pull in. I purposely chose Hominy because of a friend that had stayed there and told me how pretty everything was and the hot tub. It was our anniversary and surprise engagement last weekend. We went for a hike at Cook's Forest and we were really hoping to relax our muscles. Also, the wood we had to buy ( which I don't mind buying, that's fine) was horrible and didn't burn at all. It made the whole cabin smoke. We had the flu wide open, stacked the wood properly, and aerated the fire place. It was so bad we had to use the box fan to circulate the air and my face swelled like I had been crying.
Other than those two things, the cabin was absolutely beautiful! The open scheme, color choices, log furniture, and couch/bed comfort was great. I just really wish we could have enjoyed it a little more or maybe my expectations were to high.

First, I want to congratulate you both on your engagement! How amazing is that! Second, I apologize for us not have been there to allow you to use the hot tub. Had we known, we could have tried to make arrangements to get you into it. We took a mini vacation so clear our heads and thought we had everything covered. I'm not sure what the problem was with the wood. We use the same wood from that stack. It may have gotten damp.

My boyfriend and I spent four nights in Cabin 6. It was a cozy little cabin nestled in a wooded area. We loved the area for the campfire and appreciated that firewood was provided for us for a small fee. WE even had a friendly fury friend (a cat) visit us every night as we sat by the campfire. We loved the location as it was very close to Cook Forest State Park and the surrounding hiking trails. The owners were very friendly upon checking into the cabin! We can't wait for a return stay!

On the things we liked about our cabin: pleasant staff, ability to check-in early since the cabin was available, comfy beds and futon, good WiFi, and great fireplace. We really loved the fireplace!
As to the negatives.....the cabin is located right on the main highway. I would definitely NOT recommend this for any family coming with small children, which we had with our group.Looking at the picture on the website, as well as reading the plaque provided in our cabin, we expected it to be “clean, comfortable, and quiet” -
instead we had traffic coming lthrough beginning at 4:30AM and continuiing through the day. (The other cabins were located further away from the traffic. Would be a much better choice if you are expecting quiet.) I would sit on the front porch trying to enjoy a cup of coffee peacefully at 5:00AM, with my view being traffic noisily going by. If I only would have known that this cabin was on the main highway, I would have chosen one of the others available. A map of the cabin’s location right on the website would take care of this problem.
Also, the website described this as a “modern” cabin. The outside siding is more modern, but the inside is definitely rustic. Things like missing tiles in the kitchen, peeling paint and cracked window on the back door, and old kitchen appliances are things that I feel can be remedied with a little bit of funds to update the cabin. There’s a lot of potential there if one dosen’t mind the road traffic.
All in all we had a great time at Cook Forest and hope to come back again. Just looking for a quieter spot next time

Thank you for the review. Unfortunately we can not move the cabin. It was built there and we have no choice. There is a property map on our website that does show its location. All of the appliances are newer. We know about the tiles and will get to it when we can. We realize the things that need fixed. We can only work on one thing at a time. The latest was all new beds and mattresses and living room furniture. We hear the road noise even where we live, so its not something you can easily get a way from if you want the convenience to all that Cook Forest Offers. WE hope you will return and maybe choose a different cabin. WE have others that will accommodate.

We recently stayed at with Hominy Ridge and had the absolute worst experience. These cabins are by no means fancy or updated and we knew that going in but we did expect them to be moderately clean. We stayed in cabin #2. There were old REALLY old mouse traps that had big blocks of moldy cheese on them along with live animals traps. Both of these were under the kitchen sink. The couches were dirty and stained. They looked like they had gotten them from someone’s trash. The dish towels had coffee grounds in them and tons of stains. They were so old that you couldn’t even tell what design was supposed to be on them. When we mentioned the towels, we were told that they were clean but stained which is not true. We shook a pile of coffee grounds out of them. The shower was never cleaned. There was hair in the drains and on the walls. The toilet leaked to the point that we had to wear shower shoes to use the bathroom. There was no hot water AT ALL. We were told that it was just broken. No credit was given for the lack of hot water.
I understand that everyone has an off day and maybe the cabin didn’t get cleaned properly but the worst of it was that the managers did not care which makes me think that this is their typical upkeep. I was offered a $27 credit and then a $75 credit. We stayed 1 night and they would not refund our second night. We should have never stayed that first night. It was disgusting! Regardless, the managers had zero concern for the hot water or the condition of the cabin. They were no where to be found when we looked for them. There were little signs all over the room telling you not to flush the toilet, not to open windows, etc. There was a spa sign that was ridiculous and in appropriate to hang on a refrigerator. It just Spurs questions for little kids learning to read. Plus there was no spa which is also ironic.
Absolute worst experience. Stay somewhere else. There can not be a place in worst condition than Hominy Ridge. It is just not possible.

I am sorry you were disappointed in your stay. But here is from my perspective. You are not stating things the way they happened. We came over to the cabin over and over to try to fix the hot water tank. It needed a new part, but we had to order it. So the only thing we could do was keep lighting it for you. You said not to worry about it that you weren't going to shower that night anyways. The mouse traps are there for a reason. To catch and kill mice if they get into the cabin. I'm sorry you found it offensive but you would have also found it offensive if you saw a mouse. The toilet was not leaking it was sweating from all the cold water coming in from you all flushing it over and over. The couches were stained and can not we laundered or scrubbed between every guest. I can not explain the coffee grounds but you could have shown them to my husband and he would have gladly gotten a fresh set. I don't know who cleaned the cabin but the entire staff were told about it. As far as a credit goes. Yes we did give you a credit of $75 and another $75 to equal $150. You are incorrect about us having zero concern. We were here all night and as a matter of fact, when i came over to try to get the hot water tank going, I even asked you how everything was and you said it was all ok. Not once did you mention ANYTHING to me to my face. How can I help you with something that I know nothing about. The signs do not tell you not to flush the toilet. Come on now. It states to conserve water but that is all. The hot tub sign on the fridge is for the general hot tub that we offer in the off season. It's not at your cabin and never stated that it was. I guess readers will have to judge for themselves.

Hominy Ridge in Cook Forest- Clarington PA. is a scam business from what we experienced. First off, my husband was asked to show his driver's license " in case we burned the cabin down". What a wonderful way to treat a couple coming for the first time for an Anniversary stay. The list of rules makes feel like you can't even farther without there being some extra ridiculous charge. It way dirty, not what we expected at all. The amenities are falling apart or dangerous. Rotting floors, a toilet that rocks and several obvious leaks. The so called lady owner has no business being IN Business period. She will blame any negative fact or opinion you tell her, on you. She doesn't care about bettering her customer service at all. Read the reviews first on their page because several people complained of the same things. She will destroy any comments she feels are false or negative. She even told us she was fine with us never coming back. If you see or consider coming to this place, just keep driving. They claim to offer an EXTRAORDINARY stay, which it was because I've never dealt with such rudeness. A family member rented a cabin for a 2 night stay. It was a struggle to even stay 1 night. About 250.00 is what was paid for nothing but rudeness, unprofessional actions and assuming we were going to destroy the already crappy cabin. I give this place a minus 5 stars. We didn't get what my gift giver paid for. Beware, this place takes advantage of their consumers saying you did everything wrong while staying. I have a really hard time believing their still in business, monkey business. Tearing down cabin 3 would be a good start. It's totally fine with this owner that you didn't like anything about the place. The only thing I liked about Hominy Ridge He'll is LEAVING!!!

I tried to apologize for their discomfort and everything they “experienced”. No one would allow me to say a word. It all could have been resolved if they would have spoke up instead of waiting until they left. I tried having a discussion until he started saying very nasty things about me and my business. We have other guests that love the cabin that is in question. Sorry you were dissatisfied. The toilet does not wobble, the bed is brand new, the cabin is very clean. We do not claim this cabin is perfect. But other guests love it

Cabin 4 is supposed to be the honeymoon cabin. Beware, it’s 20 yards off a main road that is highly traveled so lots of road noise. The cabin is rustic but the stove, oven, and microwave were dirty, covered with grease. The box fan was covered in dirt and was moldy. Half burnt wood was in the fireplace and there were cigarette butts on the porch. Rotting wood and peeling linoleum in the kitchen. The kitchen is barely stocked with dishes, silverware etc. Also the bedrooms have one lamp that doesn’t illuminate the dark rooms. The carpet in these rooms were coved with dead critters and dirt. Also there is only a fixed seat picnic table inside. Oh and did I mention, you have to park 15 yards away from the door which wouldn’t be bad except it’s downhill to the door on a dirt gravel path. Slippery!
I would not recommend staying here.

I apologized for the way the cabin was . It should have e been inspected before you arrived. There is no excuse for it being dirty. Our housekeeper did get a stern talking to. Something however can not be changed like where the cabin is located, how there is a slightly sloped walkway and where you have to park.

The reviews seem all over the place for this vacation spot, but we had a great time and simply managed our expectations for staying in a cabin vs. a resort. We stayed on a January weekend with a lot of earlier snowfall, so it was absolutely gorgeous and a very short drive to lots of beautiful snowy trails that were almost empty. We got stuck in some snow (small car, no chains, you get it) and the owners quickly came out and helped pull the car out and get us situated. Once inside the cabin, the beds were soft, the DirecTV worked well, there were plenty of dishes and cooking implements and lots of firewood at the ready. Our only downsides were the wellwater has an odor - I would bring plenty of bottled water, the Wifi didn't work for more than a minute at a time for us (We were in Cabin 5) and we didn't use the hot tub at all simply because it was zero degrees and the idea of walking a long distance outside to jump in a hot tub was unappealing. Also, we came in the offseason so almost everything surrounding was closed, except the Chicken Hill Distillery, which I highly recommend. So... like, read the reviews, but expect a cabin, not the Four Seasons, and you should have a good time!

hanks for the review Brent! We are glad you had a great time despite some set backs. The wi-fi may have been bogged down with all the users in several cabins. I will check in to that situation. The well water may have a slight odor. Most do. We do have it on a Culligan system to help with that. It is safe to drink. I know it was very cold but the hot tub is for that very temps. Once you get it in, it is fabulous in the cold weather and you get so hot that going back to the cabin is not an issue. Maybe you will get to use it next time. Till then, stay safe

We rented Cabin 6 for the weekend (in Friday, out Monday). Everything about the cabin was great - clean, well supplied, cozy accomodations. Had been some localized high waters the day previously but had no problems accessing the property.

Relaxing & private location but with the availability of conveniences (WiFi, TV) if you want access to them. Helpful as cell signal in the area is spotty due to hilly terrain so ability to have WiFi calling in cabin was comforting in case needed to be contacted by family.

Comfortable sleeping, relaxing by fireplace (wood stocked on cabin porch for purchase), outdoor options available in area, stores/restaurants not too far away if wanted/needed made for great weekend.

Owners friendly & available when needed but not hovering around or intrusive.

Thanks for the weekend!!

We loved Hominy Ridge. It's very close to Cooks Forest State Park & the hiking we wanted to do.
The cabin was perfect for us. Definitely loved that it had WiFi & cable. Even being outdoor people, night time after the outside fire, it's nice to relax with a movie. The Wifi was great because I could look up the things we wanted to do & get an idea of where & how far it was. (There's not always phone reception in the mountains).
The owners were really nice & friendly. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

First of all. I apologize for what you think you may have experienced. You never used the hot tub and you were never taken photos of. And the hot tub IS properly maintained, that's why we insist on the rules we have in place for its use. Again this had nothing do do with you. No one was rude to you. What you say has happened was your interpretation of things. I can not be responsible for you and your interpretations. I do sleep well at night and so do 99% of our guests. The 1% of you surely need to find other accommodations. And we wouldn't want to have it any other way.
