My wife and I stayed in room #7 on the first weekend in May. Room was clean and decent. Room had 2 queen beds, we felt they were both way to firm for our liking. Our room had snuck view of both ponds, nice bench out front, microwave and small refrigerator. Our main complaint was hearing the people in room next to us. They weren’t being loud, but could hear them talking at normal level.

We had dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant and it was good and reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly.

Located right across hwy 31 from Summer Lake wildlife refuge, very popular for bird watchers.

I will definitely return for a boys weekend of fishing or hunting, A nice place to escape life and enjoy a bit of piece and quiet

Love this quaint little resort. The location is per perfect for enjoying wildlife (across the street from the wildlife refuge), cruising up to Fremont Point at sunrise to see the beautiful valley below, and driving to Paisley and having lunch at the Pioneer Saloon (est.1893). This place is a gem!

The rooms are very comfortable and the food at the Flyway restaurant is home style, plentiful, and delicious. The proprietors are super friendly and very accommodating. Not to mention they are pet friendly!!

Highly recommend this establishment!

I stay here several times a year during bird hunting seasons. Everybody is always friendly and helpful. The food even though it’s takeout is always better than expected . Hours of service are variable depending upon occupancy but they are willing to deliver a meal to your door if needed.

If I had known that the owners value their own maskless comfort over the safety of their guests I would have chosen not to book here. Guests are greeted by a sign on the office door saying they are not willing to mask and guests should take care of themselves - as if their choice does not affect their guests. I would have appreciated having this info on the website so I could have chosen to book elsewhere. Since at that point we couldn't cancel, we stayed but cooked our meals rather than ordering food here, choosing not to support them any further. It's a beautiful location and the Ponderosa cabin was very nice. Loved the deck on the pond with all the wood ducks. I would have given a positive review except for the no mask policy. They also neglected to mention on the website that you can't drive up to the cabin but have to carry your luggage/supplies in a ways. The cabin was generally clean and comfortable but lacking coffee filters for the coffee pot and several light bulbs were burned out.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate that you took the time to give your views. We will be sure to add the information for cabins that supplies & luggage must be carried from the parking lot to the cabins. We do use frequent, scrupulous cleaning methods for our facility, including the use of ozinators to further sanitize each entire room's air and surfaces after each has been thoroughly cleaned manually. Customers can feel free to call the front desk to request more coffee pods or other supplies, as well as to report equipment malfunctioning.

Pros: View is gorgeous! Food in restaurant good. Staff friendly.
Was able to get two bars on my phone ( Verizon)
Room walls well insulated.
Very clean.

Cons: Beds rock hard!
Bathroom tiny, shower up too high ( almost fell getting up in).
Towels old.
Electrical outlets badly need upgrade! ( if you have CPAPS bring your own extension cord)
Tv one local station.
Be sure to gas up before coming.

We were in the motel units, can’t speak for the cabins.

We stayed in a motel room. They also have cabins available. It was nice and clean. It was quiet. We loved sitting out on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet, watching the wildlife. The owners were very accommodating, providing ice and opening the restaurant for their guests. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would stay here again.

This could be a top notch place, and I realize it's a remote 'Oregon outback' place, but a few fixes would take it from clean & adequate to excellent. It's been remodeled but the soft mattress was unpleasant. Not one towel hook in the bathroom. And the one TV channel doesn't work if the TV in the restaurant is off. Not the kind of place for TV addicts anyway. However, it does have excellent wifi, which was all we needed. And it's by far the nicest motel in the Christmas Valley to Summer Lake area.

We didn't try the restaurant, we have too many food allergies to risk it. But they do have fridges & microwaves in each room. A couple of the cabins have kitchenettes.

While it's not perfect, we'll stay there again if in the area. Oh, and the view when you step out of your room is breathtaking.

We came for a long weekend to enjoy the vast open beauty of the Oregon high dessert. we stayed in one of the seven Motel rooms and our friends stayed in a cabin. The motel room was clean and comfortable. No frills. Cell and wifi service were almost non existent, so don't expect to be able to stream video or work remotely. But that's okay, because sitting on the deck and watching the birds do their thing was the most entertaining thing I've watched in a long time. Use this spot as your home base for hunting, fishing, hiking at fort rock or
Crack In the ground, or water skiing on nearby ana reservoir. We will be back.

Nice location, next to wildlife refuge. The cabins are old and not equipped well. The kitchen utensils are terrible and few and far between. The heater keeps the small mobilehome warm but is as loud as a jet engine; turned it off at night for sleeping so down to 50 F at night. The wifi is unreliable and slow. Limited Verizon coverage so the wifi is necessary. The "cabin" had about 1/2" of dust stuck to the wooden walls in the bedroom. Dishes, and especially the dish washing gear were quite dirty. There is a full kitchen but you cannot take advantage of it because of the lack of utensils. The restaurant on site is very poor. Ordered a glass of "Del Rio" wine and had to send it back, must have been opened for a year. Generally poorly maintained inside and out. No table for dining. Uncomfortable furniture. The owners are nice, but the price they charge for such poor units means you should give this one a miss.

This place is awesome but you have to understand what you’re getting. Summer Lake is a world away from anywhere else. You’re here for the birds or some other outdoor pursuit, and to have a clean spot with heat, and comfortable bedding and a view of a lake with its own ducks and terns and a kitchenette (we stayed in a cabin) …. I mean, do you really care that the whole lodge is watching the same TV station? You’re in an amazing place and you’ve been welcomed by kind people, even if their politics are all too evidently not yours. Just take in the views and be grateful for this lovely spot.

I would also recommend contacting the owners. I'm not certain what the water levels are supposed to this time of year. We were not there on a birding trip, but did take some time to site see and saw plenty of birds. The swallows at the lodge are a blast to watch catching bugs!
