As always the staff at The Lodge is welcoming and efficient. Check in especially with pets is easy and convenient. The rooms are basic but well kept and clean. Pricing for this location and room type was more than fair and had been steady for several years. The attached dinning room serves excellent and reasonably priced food.
I agree completely with the previous reviewer's commentary on the irresponsibility of the Lodge's owners/managers in their response to Covid. We encountered the same sign on the office/restaurant door after making an online booking and had no alternative but to make the best of a bad situation. To make things even more alarming, in the middle of our stay, we were informed that the restaurant was going to be closed because one or more of the proprieters had been expsed to Covid. Alas, the next day they were back in business, operating the restaurant as a mask-free zone. Needless to say we did not enter the premises after checking in. The sad thing about this is we have stayed the The Lodge at Summer Lake many times in the last 20+ years and have thought of it fondly as a place we would return to on a regular basis. While we will continue to visit Summer Lake, we will no longer be patronizing the Lodge. Such blatant disregard for their guests and customers will not be rewarded by us.…
If I had known that the owners value their own maskless comfort over the safety of their guests I would have chosen not to book here. Guests are greeted by a sign on the office door saying they are not willing to mask and guests should take care of themselves - as if their choice does not affect their guests. I would have appreciated having this info on the website so I could have chosen to book elsewhere. Since at that point we couldn't cancel, we stayed but cooked our meals rather than ordering food here, choosing not to support them any further. It's a beautiful location and the Ponderosa cabin was very nice. Loved the deck on the pond with all the wood ducks. I would have given a positive review except for the no mask policy. They also neglected to mention on the website that you can't drive up to the cabin but have to carry your luggage/supplies in a ways. The cabin was generally clean and comfortable but lacking coffee filters for the coffee pot and several light bulbs were burned out.…
We stayed in a motel room. They also have cabins available. It was nice and clean. It was quiet. We loved sitting out on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet, watching the wildlife. The owners were very accommodating, providing ice and opening the restaurant for their guests. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would stay here again.
This place is awesome but you have to understand what you’re getting. Summer Lake is a world away from anywhere else. You’re here for the birds or some other outdoor pursuit, and to have a clean spot with heat, and comfortable bedding and a view of a lake with its own ducks and terns and a kitchenette (we stayed in a cabin) …. I mean, do you really care that the whole lodge is watching the same TV station? You’re in an amazing place and you’ve been welcomed by kind people, even if their politics are all too evidently not yours. Just take in the views and be grateful for this lovely spot.
We were here 9 years ago and enjoyed the quaint, quiet ambiance. For the 2021 price, we were expecting some upgrades. Looks like new vinyl windows (tags and all) but no other visible changes. A potential gold mine, but details are lacking!
I stay here several times a year during bird hunting seasons. Everybody is always friendly and helpful. The food even though it’s takeout is always better than expected . Hours of service are variable depending upon occupancy but they are willing to deliver a meal to your door if needed.
Love this quaint little resort. The location is per perfect for enjoying wildlife (across the street from the wildlife refuge), cruising up to Fremont Point at sunrise to see the beautiful valley below, and driving to Paisley and having lunch at the Pioneer Saloon (est.1893). This place is a gem! The rooms are very comfortable and the food at the Flyway restaurant is home style, plentiful, and delicious. The proprietors are super friendly and very accommodating. Not to mention they are pet friendly!! Highly recommend this establishment!
Pros: View is gorgeous! Food in restaurant good. Staff friendly. Was able to get two bars on my phone ( Verizon) Room walls well insulated. Very clean. Cons: Beds rock hard! Bathroom tiny, shower up too high ( almost fell getting up in). Towels old. Electrical outlets badly need upgrade! ( if you have CPAPS bring your own extension cord) Tv one local station. Be sure to gas up before coming. We were in the motel units, can’t speak for the cabins.
This could be a top notch place, and I realize it's a remote 'Oregon outback' place, but a few fixes would take it from clean & adequate to excellent. It's been remodeled but the soft mattress was unpleasant. Not one towel hook in the bathroom. And the one TV channel doesn't work if the TV in the restaurant is off. Not the kind of place for TV addicts anyway. However, it does have excellent wifi, which was all we needed. And it's by far the nicest motel in the Christmas Valley to Summer Lake area. We didn't try the restaurant, we have too many food allergies to risk it. But they do have fridges & microwaves in each room. A couple of the cabins have kitchenettes. While it's not perfect, we'll stay there again if in the area. Oh, and the view when you step out of your room is breathtaking.…
