My wife and I had camped at Silver Falls State Park (just East of Salem) two years ago and had checked out the Conference Center and Upper Smith Creek Cabins at that time. This time I rented two triple cabins (3 single beds in each) at Upper Smith Creek with toilet, sink and coffee maker for our partial family get together and it was the highlight of our two week stay. The are located about half a mile from the Conference Center. The beautiful lush and remote forest setting was a delight and we all slept very well. The showers are adjacent and extremely clean. As reported two years ago, TripAdvisor is wrong not to list Silver Falls State Park separately as it is Oregon’s finest, most unique and scenic.

I am only giving 2 stars because of good customer service by Brittany. The cabin, the location, and the amenities get zero stars. I can not say enough about the disappointment of staying in the lodge cabin. VERY, VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED. I paid twice the cost of a Yurt for half the comfort!! First off, locked myself out of cabin with keys inside because I did not know that they handle had a special way of making sure it was unlocked. Okay, my bad. But, I had to climb back in a window to get in because even the backup number would not answer. Second, they wifi, that I MADE SURE to ask about (twice on phone before making reservaction) did not WORK!!! Third, there was NO WHERE to sit inside cabin!! Just the bed. There WAS a table outside that I moved inside, but it was one of those outdoor tables with holes in them. Fourth, the hot water that I had at night, never returned the next morning!! I let that water run almost 5 minutes, still no hot water. I am VERY UNHAPPY with this lodge and will not be using it again. I could have had a more comfortable stay in a Yurt at the campground for HALF THE PRICE!!! But, TWO STARS for Brittany for trying to help and sending the maintainence guy up to see if he could help out.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and I appreciated the opportunity to speak with you via phone to clarify a few things from your stay. We do offer a selection of different cabin and lodge room styles, each with varied amenities. We do our best to communicate accurate information for each of these cabins on our website and when booking with a reservationist to best manage expectations and ensure you are selecting the appropriate cabin for your desired experience. Our Upper Smith Creek Cabins, where you stayed, are our most rustic accommodations. These cabins feature 1-3 beds with bedding, towels, housekeeping service, a sink and vanity, coffee maker, water closet with commode, and bistro table/chairs outside. There are shared shower facilities at an adjacent building nearby. Some of these cabins also feature a covered porch and interior fold-down table. We are unable to expand the footprint of these cabins to allow for additional indoor seating due to the historic nature of them being original (formerly Girl Scout cabins from when this part of the park was Camp Smith Creek). Many find the history, location, and quaintness of these rustic cabins a charming feature when seeking an unplugged Oregon getaway. It sounds as though you may have been better accommodated for your desired experience in one of our other lodging options that feature increased amenities such as wi-fi, sofas, fireplaces, private restrooms with showers, closer proximity to staff, etc. As indicated in the booking confirmation, arrival paperwork, and in-cabin info cards, Big Leaf dining hall is typically available for casual use during business hours and offers many of these amenities to all guests to enjoy. We take great pride in offering phenomenal service and anticipating guest needs and questions. We do have staff onsite and available to assist lodging guests 24/7. During winter months, our reservations booth is closed for lunch from noon - 1 pm, or for brief periods should staff need to step away momentarily and assist a guest. Should any guest experience a lock-out or other need during business hours, they are welcome to pop by the registration booth or admin office for immediate assistance. Should you opt to call and request staff to come to assist you at your location, we are happy to do so but you may experience a short wait. I appreciate you taking the time to communicate with us about your stay and hope that you will give one of our other lodging options a try in the future. Amenity details and photos for each of our lodging options can be found on our website.

Hello dcroeni. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds as though you were checked into a room that was in the process of being cleaned but not yet completed. This is highly unusual and I'm sorry that we dropped the ball. Please be aware that we have staff that lives onsite to assist our guests 24 hours per day. We would have been happy to make things right for you immediately, had it been reported to our team at the time. Regardless, I will follow up with you directly to resolve the matter.

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights. We stayed in the Lower Smith Creek Cabin, Chickaree. It has 2 single beds which were a good size and it’s own bathroom with shower. We were disappointed that there was no refrigerator in the cabin and the reason why is because the lodge doesn’t have a full time restaurant. There “dinner hall” is only open if there are 10 or more people eating. Which was never The case on our stay. So when we asked at check in if the dinner hall would be open any on our stay they said no. And there is no other place close by for food. So we had to go to the nearest safeway (about 8 miles) and load up and keep the food in a cooler (ice at lodge is $3 a bag). The cabin itself was comfortable and no complaints. My suggestion for the lodge. Please have coffee and a small breakfast offering for your guests. This would be nice considering there is no other food option around. Put it in the dining hall along side your hot tea offering. The coffee in the room is gross and instant coffee. It wouldn’t take much to have a staff member brew a fresh pot and have it set up in the dining hall. There is a cafe about 2 miles down the road at the waterfalls but it doesn’t open until 11am and they don’t have much to offer. No grab and go sandwiches or snacks. It’s only counter service. The staff at the lodge was friendly. But the caretaker on property has 2 dogs that bark a lot. Kinda ruins the nature and peace and quite. Just be prepared when staying here food wise.

Hi MelissaTravels2. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Our lodging offers varied cooking amenities, depending on which cabin or lodge room you book. For our Lower Smith Creek Cabins, we will be adding mini fridges and microwaves this fall. Our lodge rooms already have these amenities and our Ranches and Calypso Cottage all feature kitchens. Please inquire at time of booking and we'd be happy to review options with you. A vending machine and microwave are available 24/7 on Conference Center grounds as well. You are correct that our dining hall is typically only open for meal services when we have groups staying onsite. We are pleased to offer boxed meal options that can be ordered in advance and enjoyed in the dining hall or taken on the trail. The South Falls Cafe is open daily 9 am to 5 pm in the summer and during the rest of the year it is open 9 am to 4 pm. South Falls Cafe offers a petite breakfast menu until 11 am and then a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, etc from 11 until close. I will take a look at how all of the above are being communicated with our guests, as it appears that you were not provided with this information. I hope to see you at the falls again in the future! We recently held a conference for 80 people at Silver Falls, and it was just incredible. Our attendees gave it an average rating of 4.6 out of . As the group leader, I was very, very happy with the venue. Meagan and her team were so helpful as we were planning the event. Having the outdoor setting of Silver Falls as the background to a meeting is just amazing. You have to go outside a lot with this venue-- to go to the dining hall, or to go to your room-- which means that you're getting fresh air and nature to break up heavy content. The spaces are filled with sunshine and soft lighting, instead of the usual florescent lights of hotel conference rooms. I genuinely think that this improved my ability to stay focused-- usually, I feel zoned out at the end of conferences, but at the end of our time at Silver Falls, I felt refreshed and light-hearted, which is pretty amazing because it's very stressful to be a group leader (no matter the venue). The food was so delicious-- everyone absolutely raved about it. The kitchen staff was present during every meal to answer questions, and all of our dietary restrictions were met (which is no small task!) There were nicely prepared vegetables with every meal, and it was great to always have a salad bar. The desserts were also delicious! They provided projectors, flip-chart stands and pads for free, and lighted a bonfire for us the second night. There are so many staff who are kind and helpful at every turn. Thank you so much to all of the staff, Meagan, Chef Peter, and Kuolona and Chef Jason! Your kindness was so appreciated by the group.
