A really cute B&B for the price, and was a surprise get-away for Mom's 70th birthday. We reserved the only room available on short notice, which was the Garret Room (in the attic). I feel like the room description should have specified all of the stairs required to reach our room because it was difficult for my mom to climb all of those stairs. The rocking chair in the suite was broken which made the bed the only comfortable place to sit (the window seats are mostly for decoration, not for comfortable seating). The hotel is pet-friendly so our carpet was pet-stained and worn, but not smelly.
This bed and breakfast was originally the home of Alexander Gilbert, one of the founding fathers of Seaside. The house is well preserved and charming, the rooms have comfortable beds, the floors are a bit creaky but otherwise the atmosphere is very pleasant. The B&B is one block from the beach and within minutes walking distance to the town center and restaurants.
This hotel has potential, but it wasn’t well maintained and was kind of dingy. TV mount was messy with wires hanging, wall trim was leaning against wall and not nailed in, scuffs on walls, missing light bulbs, etc. With the exception of Leo, staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful. We weren’t greeted once by the front desk. Another guest explained the breakfast process to us. It was definitely not the friendly, charming B&B experience we’ve grown accustomed to in our travels.
Beautiful location and friendly staff. Nice breakfasts. However, our room was not clean at checkin. We left for over 2 hours for them to remedy. Upon return, The bed and linens had been changed but the bathroom had hair on the floor. I ended up cleaning myself. It dampened our opinion on this lovely old hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Gilbert Inn! Really beautiful interiors, and so close to the beach. DVDs and other amenities were available, and breakfast was great! Only improvements I’d suggest would be adding A/C to rooms if possible as it did get quite hot, and a little more training for younger employees, when we arrived for check in the rooms weren’t ready and some of the young staff were using foul language and didn’t acknowledge the arrival of guests, so it was an interesting first impression. Other than that we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend recommend it!
