The Gilbert Inn captures guests' hearts with its charming atmosphere and spotless presentation, often praised for its quaint decor and cozy ambiance. While the inn's prime location near attractions and the beach is a highlight for many, some guests feel the warmth of the rooms a bit too literally, noting a lack of temperature control. Additionally, opinions are split regarding the service, which can range from heartfelt welcomes to indifferent interactions. Despite the historic charm, visitors also lament repetitive breakfast options and the absence of modern amenities, questioning the overall value.

It was a joy to stay in the Garrett Room at the top of Gilbert Inn. Very comfortable bed, pillows, and linens. Nice towels and fabulous shower head. Loved the fireplace/heater and mini fridge & microwave. It is worth the many steps up to the top level.
However——we were met with flippant comments and attitude at check-in by a gentleman at the desk who seemed like we were an inconvenience. Our room was ready and it was only 30 min before the 4pm check-in, so we asked for an early check-in because of our long drive. He said he would, but don’t count on it next time. The bathroom door had an extremely loud squeak. We asked him if he had any WD-40 or something that could fix it. He just looked at us and shrugged his shoulders. He never came up to do anything about it. We eventually put a little body oil on the hinges and that helped. The lotion bottle in the bathroom was empty. The bathroom night light did not work. The bedside light did not work. At breakfast there was not enough food for all the guests. (The food area needs a receptacle to pour liquids into as there is no sink.). We thought it ridiculous that there are chairs in the front sitting room that have signs on them that say do not sit in them.
We loved the house and its location. It was very clean (thanks to the cleaning staff). As we were going out I told the woman at the desk there was ice from the ice machine all over the floor in the foyer. She did nothing until I mentioned it a second time upon our return. Everyone we encountered acted as though they did not want to be there. There is no customer service and not even a pleasant hello when you arrive. Even when we handed in our keys upon departure all that was said was, “thanks, I needed those”.

We brought together 23 family members from 6 states ages 2-73 for a memorial weekend in honor of my mother and our family history on the Oregon/Washington Coasts. It could not have been a better experience for everyone. I received emails after returning home from everyone complementing the hotel as a choice of where to stay. We each had our own rooms but could easily gather for breakfast and end of day conversation around the fire or in the Sunroom. Restaurants and the beach were in easy walking distance and Seaside was a perfect location to explore destinations both south and north. Thank you to the staff for your warm welcome and a superb setting.

3rd time at this property. 2nd time this year. Glad they added back the free breakfast-as is like chain motel food-not bnb private meals; which are adequate, but not worth $20 extra per couple charged last spring for them. This time was included in the price, so we stayed for breakfast. We did not pay the $20 last time but just ate on the way home.
Have to take one star off for the green scrambled eggs, tho. Everywhere they touched the metal pan-they turned green/greyish green; very unappetizing. Perhaps need a higher quality metal warming pan? Did love, however-that they served sausage links instead of bacon or dried up patties. Also liked they had fluffy biscuits instead of English muffins.
It is just one block from the ocean. We wish they had not stopped sending email invites as they have done for years. Other motels still do this-then we stay elsewhere-as we are not thinking about seaside. Invite us...we will come!
PS...please paint it back yellow with white trim again. It was a landmark
and so lovely..now...it does not stand out and we nearly drove past it as just another house.

The Gilbert Inn is very basic. The room was clean, but small. The Queen-sized bed seemed particularly small. Breakfast is not included, but you can pay $10 each to be served. We would have preferred that it be included in the room price as it usually is when visiting an Inn. The welcome room has signs on chairs uninvitingly asking people not to sit on them. The young man giving out room keys is perfunctory, but as suggested by others, he doesn’t have the welcome demeanor one expects in an inn.

The location of the Inn is terrific. One block from the promenade and beach. An easy walk to town.

We stayed 2 nights in the Turret Room. Room was fine, not great. Bed was small, floors slope badly. No ceiling fan as advertised. Thin walls and steep stairs. Breakfast is a joke, cheap buffet style with powdered eggs and “make your own waffles”. Fruit was browned bananas and apples. All served on paper plates with thin plastic silverware. Agree with other reviewers that the staff was not friendly or helpful. Seemed like a family run place and they were all more interested in talking to each other in Spanish than providing for guests. Broken down car with flat tires taking up space in the very small parking lot. We had high hopes for a cute bed and breakfast type experience in a well known historical building, not so much. Won’t waste our money here again.

We had stayed at this quaint inn last year and we had a positive experience; therefore, we decided to stay there again. Unfortunately, this time was a major disappointment. It was uncomfortable and frustrating. The building is charming and conveniently located in Seaside, close to the beach and restaurants in walking distance. First of all, the young man who checked us in displayed a total lack of courtesy, no good manners, no welcoming attitude, and poor customer skills; all these, the opposite of what one expects from hotel staff. He seemed more interested in his phone than in being professional. The room was charming but the walls have no insulation so one can hear virtually everything from other rooms; all types of bathroom sounds and loud conversations. There's no thermostat in the room so there's no way to control the temperature. Radiators maintain the room warm; rather, too hot in the middle of the night. The piece of metal that holds the shower head in place was broken. We asked for it to be repaired. When we inquired about the status of the repair, this man replied: "I'm sure it was repaired ... but I'm not sure." It had not been repaired. When it was finally fixed, the new piece that replaced the old one could not hold the shower head in its place. It kept falling off, causing the water to go all over the bathroom, and making it quite uncomfortable to have a simple good shower. The coffee pot was not cleaned. The coffee was not replenished. The bags of non-dairy creamer seemed ancient: hard like a rock. None of these concerns is a tragedy and they may sound like "first world problems," but lodging is not cheap so a traveler expects better service than this. We will not stay there again.

This is an old somewhat restored beautiful mansion, The wood and the charming parlor with the antique chairs give way to thoughts of special entertaining in the day. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was OK, nothing special. Great location! Most other motels in the area now charge a cleaning fee which I will not pay for a motel or hotel room at a cost more than I pay my housekeeper for a fairly large home. This is why I chose this B & B.

This was a great stay. Everything was very clean and I was surprised that they actually offer a cooked to order breakfast included in the price. It was only 1 block from beachfront and a 2 block walk to the main street with all of the shops, restaurants, arcade and lots of fun! Everyone was very friendly and check in was easy and quick. We will definitely stay here again!

We wanted to spend the holiday in Seaside and we were thrilled to have been able to stay in a lovely historic building oozing with charm and seasonal decorations with a helpful and welcoming staff. Starting with making reservations on the phone through a consistently good breakfast every morning to a good selection of dvds, suggestions on what the best way to drive home through a record-breaking snowstorm, the experience was top notch in every way.

The beds were great, pillows and linens high quality. Everything we needed was in our rooms, including dishes and glasses etc since we had the cozy Marthe Suite with a little wet bar for all of the holiday munchies we brought along. Comfy 4 poster for 2 in the cozy bedroom and sleeper couch in the front room. Good hot shower and generous stock of shampoo etc.

The only thing I would put up for consideration is the very cold bathroom (especially the floor) if you keep the bathroom door closed. In the really cold winter, as in the time we were there, either washable rugs or a heater would have made us very happy.

We heartily recommend Gilbert Inn for a special Seaside stay and hope we can return soon!

Went to the Gilbert inn with my boyfriend and golden retriever. They are dog-friendly and had dog bowls and treats available as well. The room was a little humid, but they did provide a fan that helped. The bathroom was also a good size and easy to use. It was a nice walk-in shower and that was helpful when I was washing my dog off after the beach! The breakfast in the morning included in the stay was also nice! The location of the inn was also really nice because it had parking right out front and walking distance to everything (i.e. the beach, the restaurants and downtown area). I would highly recommend a visit!

No elevator - if this is a problem, suggest you request a ground floor room when you make the reservations. You don't want to miss staying at this delightful place if you can help it.
