Planing a family and friends reunion I discovered this hotel that has great reviews, fair pricing and great location. The idea was to have over 14 people together and enjoy good food and wine, unfortunately I found out their restaurant was close since the beginning of the COVID nightmare, so I spoke to Russell Rodriguez to seek alternatives, he kindly suggested a few near by restaurants and even made the reservation to the one met all our needs. Russell is a dependable person, if I had a hotel or any other business in the hospitality field I will put him at the very top of the operation!

Gabriel T, Thank you for sharing your experience with Russell's service skills. He is genuine "Aloha" spirit! He is a wonderful example for his staff without overshadowing them. He is a good coach and recognizes their efforts to make each guest feel special. I am very glad the alternative dining option met your expectations! Scott Snyder General Manager

There was an incident downtown which caused the hotel and surrounding area to be "shelter in place". The staff at the front desk went above and beyond in keeping us apprised of the situation and providing clarification when needed. (We were NEVER in any danger, and the hotel is in a very safe area. There had been an incident at the Salem Mall which is 4-5 blocks away). They even made us a fresh pot of coffee since I had wanted to go out and get a cup. The staff is amazing, and the professionalism and caring of your staff is what makes the hotel exceed all our expectations. I love the location and being able to walk a very short distance to try new restaurants and bars. Parking is covered and free.

Dear GreekamericanMom, Thank you for the praise, I share your admiration for the ability of the team to digest a very fluid situation with spotty updates to keep guests and each other informed. We are relieved that the actual events weren't as impactful as we initially thought for everyone involved. Fortunately the Salem Police Department took the situation very seriously and had a blanket type presence. We are very glad that your perception as a guest was a positive one and the circumstances didn't "taint" your opinion of Salem. This is a great community, lots of diversity and opportunities. Be well, Scott Snyder GM

We stayed two wonderful nights in this full-service hotel in downtown Salem. Parking is free in the underground garage. It may be one of the largest buildings in downtown. I have to tip my hat to Mika Yamanaka, who works the front desk and sometimes, reservations. She helped me secure the bookings and made sure our stay was pleasant and trouble-free. Since the route from Salem to Bend is problematic during winter, she went out of her way to update me on the road conditions. She was the one who cautioned me about the mandatory carrying of tire chains. The hotel gave us large junior and suite rooms at very reasonable rates with a full, buffet breakfast. We have not seen buffet service since pre-pandemic. The maintenance man gave me a glob of silicone caulking that plugged a hole in my shoe. It worked well to stop my socks and toes from getting wet and cold. The Grand Hotel in Salem lives up to its name.

I can't thank the Grand Hotel enough for going above and beyond to assist me in holding a 90th birthday party for my Mom. Russ From the very beginning was kind, helpful and readily available if I had a question. I had been for over the years sad to see customer service just go by the wayside. Russ brought it al back, tenfold! From setting extra tables, to helping with caterers, every little detail, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Grand Hotel, and special thanks to Russ. I wish I could give 10 stars!!

Dear 566elliea, Thank you very much for the wonderful feedback! Like you, we have been excited to see guests that are here for pleasure in the last several months, from weddings, graduations, reunions and parties. If COVID taught us anything, it should be to never take opportunities to make a positive difference for granted. These kind words help to reinforce our goals, Scott Snyder

This hotel was an excellent choice in Salem. Russell at the front desk made us feel at home, he upgraded our room to a suite for a good price difference. He suggested several good restaurants nearby that were great. also he suggested places and parks to visit in the area that we really enjoyed it. We cannot say enough about his service. We will never forget his service.

Dear Q8750LDluisd, Russ is a very new addition to the team as Front Desk Manager but he is certainly making an incredible impression on guests and fellow staff members! I am very excited to have him on the team, it is extremely difficult to get "down" when his Mahalo attitude is in the building. Thank you for the wonderful review. We hope to host you again in the future. Scott Snyder General Manager

Friendly front desk and location of this hotel is fabulous! I’ve stayed here many times and it never disappoints. The rooms are dated but that really doesn’t matter to me it’s a comfortable bed and well appointed rooms. Unfortunately that liz is still closed but they do a great job for the Buffay breakfast for the location is so close to awesome restaurants are around all within walking distance. I will continue to have this is my Salem go to hotel!

Very few COVID safety measures in place. Room was clean and comfortable. Stayed for a local wedding and met friends downstairs for their breakfast. It was a buffet with no sneeze guards, everyone shared utensils and handled the coffee urns. Tables were close and many folks without the mandated masks. While the hotel seemed to have low occupancy - we saw 150 go through the breakfast line.

Dear DKCampbell, Thank you for your observations. We've enjoyed the opportunity this summer to host 2-3 wedding groups per weekend, it is refreshing to have that type of "vibe" in the building after last year with no travel. We do take the safety of our guests and staff extremely serious. Since we reintroduced our breakfast in early July, we have been evaluating the experience and believe that staff is helping to educate and ensure safe practices in a proactive manner. Thank you, Scott Snyder General Manager

Booked this “nice” hotel suite for. 60th birthday trip from so cal. Strike one, got the the hotel at 5:20 pm Saturday 21 August. How is the room not ready until 6:00 pm? Strike two, got the the room, super small bathroom, old, not historic furniture and the toilet will not flush. Strike three, room key does not work and no bottles water in our suite. It’s just water, you can afford bottles of water at +$200 a night

We stayed at 5 properties during this trip and the Grand was the most elegant. Great pool and hot tub tho a bit of a walk. Hallway decor is reminiscent of the haunted mansion, but in a good way. The hot buffet breakfast was nice but the restaurant and bar are closed until September 2021 due to Covid. Parking was easy and spacious. All around a good experience

I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand from early March to the end of May as the hotel hosted many of the folks working on the State Debris Removal Task Force. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there for many reasons......beautiful hotel....great location....but the most memorable are the staff. I was ALWAYS warmly greeted by name no matter the time of day or how busy they were. I got wonderful recommendations for local attractions (on my half day off) and if I ever needed anything, a quick call downstairs and I was taken care of. So kudos Scott to a fine hotel and an exemplary staff. I highly recommend the Grand for business or pleasure travel and do look forward to visiting again someday!

Dear jbuck55, Thank you for the very kind words! We felt like the guests here assisting with the clean up from the fires were like extended family. When guests are here for that period of time, you really get to see the full spectrum of best and worst... I'm glad your experience was memorable for the right reasons. Best wishes, Scott Snyder General Manager
