The front desk staff were ALL super friendly, very helpful and professional which made our stay awesome! The corner room on the 4th floor was a great city view! It was designed well, it had a very comfy bed, little fridge, safe, a/c, blow dryer, glasses, water container, robes, desk w chair, a modern bathroom and black out curtains!!!! The front desk gave us a “drink” every evening. The restaurant had yummy food. The lobby was so cute & fun looking! The bar in the back past the front desk was super unique. It was a speak easy at night and a high tea room during the day!! They have a coffee bar next to the front desk that made our mornings. They had bikes you could borrow as well. Plus a gym in the basement! Such a fabulous 4 day stay at the Woodlark!
Overall a charming spot well-located in downtown Portland! Great Art Deco details in the rooms, divine beds/bedding, very effective climate control in-room. The lobby coffee bar makes terrific espresso drinks, and the breakfast burrito is amazing - it's enough for two people, though. They do sell out of it, so get there early! Close to transportation - $5 for an all-day pass on all modes is a great deal! One note to be aware of: the Bullard (in-house restaurant, also quite good) smokes its own meats, and the odor of that can get into the HVAC system and permeate on the higher floors of the hotel. I asked to have my room switched, and they were very accommodating.
We stayed at the Woodlark for 3 nights in July, in town on a mix of business & social. There were some wonderful aspects to our stay and some that left a lot to be desired. First the great: THE STAFF. Woodlark's team is at the top of their hospitality game. Everyone we met & engaged with were absolutely wonderful, even in passing. We felt genuinely welcomed at every turn. The good: the hotel itself is gorgeous. Our room was a Premium West End King & even though it was tiny & cramped with only 1 chair and a view that once overlooked the 10th & Alder food cart pods (now faces directly into 35-story office building), the lighting in the room made it feel much airier. The bathroom was also clean, beautiful, and well-ventilated. The coffee shop in the lobby had delicious drinks & pastries with solid staff. The weird: Upon check-in we received a text that "Paige the virtual concierge" would help us with whatever we needed, but at the front desk they said that number was for texting staff with requests. It became clear over our stay that it was real life people answering our messages, so I have no idea why the hotel's corporate wording would try to convince us we were talking to an AI. Talking with real people is a perk! Why hide that? Second weird thing: even though the hotel's site itself & a bunch of hotel articles we read specifically mention room service & mini bar, neither of those things are actually available. The QR code in the room sent us to a page that says "due to COVID" they took out the in-room selection of snacks & drinks & instead you have to go downstairs to a (mostly maskless) lobby & get your drinks there? No idea why room service was taken out of the equation as there was no explanation. Both the bar and the restaurant on site are fully indoors with no mask requirements & no patio. Not sure how removing room service & requiring indoor unmasked dining helps with COVID safety... Additionally, their no room service due to COVID situation is a really inconsistent policy in that you CAN get a plant delivered to your room to be your... plant buddy for your stay. If you want that sort of thing. Woodlark also charges a $25/day "guest amenities" fee that for us was absolutely useless. We did not use their indoor gym for Pelotons, nor did we ever receive our "wellness kit." We did not need bike rentals. We did not have a "welcome cocktail" in the lobby since we're trying to not catch COVID while we travel. The "free" wifi is included in that fee so in reality wifi at Woodlark is actually $25/day as is their fruit water in the lobby. If you don't want any of that, too bad! You're paying $25/day for it anyway. The room itself, in spite of the "premium" designation, was a basic hotel room clearly designed for 1 person. 1 chair, no desk, no real table, 1 drawer beneath a small open-air hanger designed for 1 person's clothes, etc. This is what I mean for 'great for a specific traveler': if it's just you and you're going to be out every day anyway, it's a perfect bedroom + bathroom combo to get ready to go out in. You will have just enough space for 1 person. Also in spite of their removal of the mini bar ("due to COVID") they still leave you with one $7 plastic bottle of Evian on the counter. LOL. Cleanliness is iffy. When we arrived, there were stains on the console table, the side table, and stains on the comforter. The bathroom looked great though and the bed was made. One morning there was a trail of french fries down the hall from the elevators, but that got cleaned up by the time we came back later that night. Valet parking is $45/night which is a huge rip-off in a downtown area with multiple nearly-empty parking garages 2 blocks away that charged $12/night overnight with security guards. We parked our car in a $12/night lot every night with zero security issues. Overall, this is huge corporation's attempt to replicate a cute boutique hotel experience and the result is deeply inconsistent with some really weird management choices made. If you need a nice-looking place to take some pictures for Instagram, this is the place for you. We will likely not be staying again as we would prefer a hotel with more substance behind the gloss.…
Staying in a city you don’t know well isn’t the best feeling but thanks to Andrew and the amazing team here I haven’t had a worry in the world. So much care and effort has been put into my visit. From great rooms to an easily accessible location — it’s a great spot I would definitely recommend.
The Woodlark is not only beautiful, it’s a convenient stay to a lot of great things to check out and close to the transit whether you take the Max rail, bus or city rail. The staff at the Woodlark was so fantastic! Welcoming, friendly, accommodating and just lovely people. The room was beautiful, clean and cozy. We had an end room on the 7th floor overlooking the city and it was awesome. Next time we travel to Portland this is the only place we will stay! Thank you to the staff for such a lovely stay! :)
Will definitely stay here again. Great location, and price. Everyone was super friendly and they even had a free plant delivery service to your room! Highly recommend! Definitely eat at the connected bar, their wings were top notch!
Everything you could desire in a stay and beyond! This thoroughly well designed and appointed destination. Priced perfectly and exceeded my needs. If only other hotels had figured out what the folks here have. Will return. Great service, style, and the price is superb. ✓✓✓
This hotel is absolutely fabulous! The decor and atmosphere is stunning. The guest services was very accommodating. The rooms were clean, comfortable and they even gave us a upgrade for free. I would definitely recommend, 12/10!
We stayed at the Woodlark for a few days visiting Portland on business. The location is fantastic - central to lots of good food/drink and major public transit. Rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. Mack at the front desk was particularly helpful and an asset to our stay. Would recommend + will continue to enjoy the Woodlark on subsequent visits to Portland!
We live here in town, but don't have air conditioning. We just booked a room and love this beautiful hotel. Such a friendly staff and the design is so gorgeous! Our room has a great bed too! I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone!
