The stay was nice. We stayed in a corner king room. The concierge guy was helpful about where to go for lunch when our room was not ready. The receptionist did not explain about the breakfast and just handed out a piece of paper with hours and dining places to eat. When we got to our room, we're a bit confused as we asked the next morning and learned that we had an option to go to Hilton hotel across the street for breakfast too. Needless to say, because it was a Memorial weekend, the place was like a zoo with only 2 servers. The food at the buffet breakfast at the Hilton was horrible. After 2 days having breakfast at the Hilton, we finally did not see any long line at the Duniway for breakfast. Line or no line, we really did not want to go back to the Hilton anyway. The food at the Duniway was 100 times better. We had dinner too on our last day and it was very good. The room amenities could be better as we had to ask for sleepers. There's no shower cap either and the conditioner bottle was empty. When we asked for a refill, the housekeeping guy was about to leave us with a new bottle but we knew that we couldn't put it up ourselves on the shower wall. When we asked, he wasn't that happy and turned out that he had to use a key. What is that all about? He knew it better than leaving us with a new bottle. Was that so troublesome? Yeah, a bit of an attitude from the receptionist and him. Other than that, daily housekeeping was good. No tea in the room so buy or bring some tea bags if you drink tea instead of coffee. I did ask for one but nobody came to our room so we decided to go to Safeway market which is about 0.4 miles away. The location is pretty good because it's a short distance (about 0.2 miles) from the airport light rail stop. The light rail ride from the airport to downtown is about 45 minutes. The best way to go to city center. Day pass is only $5.60 per person (at the present time) or $2.80 (one way) and it's good only for 2.5 hours.

A classic mid 20th century city hotel. Big rooms, wide corridors etc. It has all been made over in a dark design pattern which is quite cozy and fresh (not sure about the tattoo art on the landings but perhaps that’s a Portland vibe).
Pluses:
- big room with big desk and sofa - very friendly staff in the dining room - low rates (which is true across Portland)
There’s absolutely nothing to complain about. Sure the food isn’t amazing, the gym isn’t huge, the rooms aren’t totally modern. But it’s right by the centre of the city (and the transit to the airport), and it does everything fine at a very fair price.

The Duniway feels like a nicely spiffed up Hilton with plenty of extra details in an almost boutique size design. Nicely done rooms with decent views of downtown, plenty of space and comfy furnishings. Didn’t make use of many onsite amenities but the roof patio seemed nice for a summer day while the downstairs restaurant and bar were well done even if at a higher price.
The hotel is right off Pioneer Square making easy to walk around downtown to local sights, for a bite, or over to an event. Parking is even fairly reasonable at $33 vs other downtown hotels with in & out privileges.
Stayed via FHR through AMEX which seems to be a common source of bookings as they had the program perks down and did an excellent job delivering on that experience.

We booked this hotel with expectations of a Fine Hotel and Resorts under AMEX, and we usually do not write reviews.
This hotel fell short in a lot of ways, primarily with unfriendly staffing. The front desk was not friendly, and we were ready to check out immediately after staying two days without using credit because we did not trust the food. We got dirty towels, and the service was rude and unfriendly. There was a nice bellman with a mustache that was the only friendly person in the hotel. We wish we would have stayed somewhere else, as it was not cheap.
The hotel itself exists in the heart of downtown Portland and made a feigned attempt to meet those expectations. What surprised me was a towel covered in makeup stains that I had not seen. I assumed it was my wife's after she had removed hers for the evening, but it was a ruined towel reintroduced to circulation.
Ordering at the hotel bar was also far short of expectations. The bar/coffee shop has a series of off-hours dead times completely devoid of service. At the same time people on vacation are looking to beat crowds. When we finally were able to place orders the bartenders/baristas met us with a glance devoid of emotion and incredible apathy. We'd wait an average of 10 minutes to be acknowledged and 20 minutes to receive food or drink.
Hilton has a sister property across the street that one can use their hotel credit. If you choose to head across the street, you'll find yourselves in a truly sterile environment. The expectation is to use your fine hotel credit in a busch league sports bar.
On the whole, this hotel has found itself in a hollow environment, with the exception of a truly vibrant mustachioed bellman, embodies the hollow streets it inhabits.

One of the worst hotel stays I can recall! The air conditioning was not working in our rooms or the conference rooms for the first 24 hours+ of our stay. I basically got no sleep the first night as a result. The meeting rooms were so warm that I felt like passing out and had to leave our meeting multiple times to cool down. Myself and others made staff aware of the issue several times, but the issue was not addressed for more than 24 hrs. We requested fans for the meeting and our personal rooms. None were ever provided. Totally unacceptable for a Hilton hotel. Two of my colleagues' room cards stopped working the 2nd morning and they had to call security to get the issue resolved. Another colleague had requested a wheelchair as she is disabled, only to be told they didn't have one when she arrived. There's not enough lighting in the hotel rooms (no ceiling lights), making it very hard to see. TV service was intermittent. The hotel also wanted to charge us $135 per gallon for coffee in the meeting rooms, which is outrageous! I will not be coming here again and I doubt our agency will either.

I don’t tend to leave negative reviews but my stay definitely fell short of any expectations. The Duniway Portland is definitely not a 4 star luxury hotel and should not be included in the American Express Fine hotel and Resorts program or advertised as such. The hotel itself is very dark and dreary. Stayed on a Sunday night and the only hotel restaurant was closed for dinner (?!?) so there was only lounge/bar food available. There was no dinner service on Sunday/Monday evening so not sure if they're having staffing issues. The lounge spills into the front lobby so you don't feel like you're getting a dining experience at all. Seems like it's mostly a place for people to grab a quick drink and dash. The server in the bar/lounge area seemed disinterested and overworked and could not care less if you're wanting to order any food or drinks. I had trouble trying to spend the food credit since nothing looked appealing. Food at the Mayrose was mediocre at best and either undercooked (salmon) or burnt (bacon/pork hash). We had no energy to even complain given that the workers all looked overwhelmed and busy.
The people working at the front desk are extremely unfriendly. When checking in, three people at the desk barely wanted to look up. When checking out, the lady was extremely rude and didn't want to even provide a receipt or confirmation of my charges. She stated that it would be emailed and would not answer my question prior to helping the guest behind me. I was not holding up any lines and the total interaction was less than 1 minute. Rooms are very old and dark. There is a humid unpleasant smell in the rooms. Water pressure in the shower is weak and towels are paper thin. You can hear all the construction/ruckus even at night and doors slamming in the hallways. They put us on the "17th floor" to give you the illusion of being higher up but the building starts on floor 11. We had late check out until 4pm but had no desire to stay any longer after breakfast. I tried giving the Hilton brand another chance but I prefer the Hyatt and Marriott hotels by far. I wanted to treat myself to a nice staycation but would prefer to stay in my own home based on my experience.
Parking is not included. It is $33 a night (self park) in the adjacent parking garage. It is extremely narrow with low ceilings. It was difficult to get out without a parking attendant. Based on prior reviews, the broken garage seems to be a common occurrence which I know is not the fault of the hotel but leaves the overall experience less than pleasant. Lastly, there was also no valet attendant to be found on both days.

I found this hotel through Amex’s Fine Resorts and Hotels collection. This experience is also as a Hilton honors gold member in case that changes anything.
The staff here were amazing! They reached out to me throughout the trip making sure I was comfortable and taken care of! Highly recommend! We were given a little goodie bag upon arrival with some local treats. They went over the top of accommodate us whenever we had questions or needed something.
We ate several meals at the hotels restaurant the Mayrose of which I’ve included some pictures below. I really loved the food here and the servers were quite attentive and made us feel welcome. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. The tone is great for a date night.
There’s a pool and decent sized exercise room on the 11th floor as well as a terrace called Abigail’s Hideaway with a chess set. I learned more about who the hotel was named after at the Oregon Historical Society Museum!
We stayed on one of the higher floors and it was very quiet and pleasant environment. Good sized TV and very comfy beds.
I would highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay again upon our return to Portland!

During my recent stay at Duniway, a Hilton Hotel, which I booked through AMEX FHR with high expectations, the experience turned out to be deeply disappointing. From the onset of the check-in process until the conclusion of my stay, the service was consistently poor and discourteous, devoid of any smiles, greetings, or apologies, thereby casting a shadow over the entirety of my visit. Upon stepping into our assigned room, we were immediately struck by its shocking lack of cleanliness. Human hairs of various lengths and origins littered every conceivable surface: in the shower, the sink, on the door handles, strewn across the couch, and scattered across the floor. Additionally, greasy fingerprints blemished the tabletop and television, while lingering pieces of dust and ash marred the stationary phone. The presence of black mold within the shower cabinet, toothpaste residue clinging to the mirror from previous guests, and unidentified dried substances—likely snot—adhering to the sink only heightened our dismay. The walls and doors bore unsightly splatters, further compounding our disappointment with the state of the accommodations. It is inconceivable that a property associated with FHR from Amex and bearing the Hilton name could fall so short of basic standards of hygiene and guest comfort. Something good from our stay: The restaurant's waitstaff provided excellent service during dinner and breakfast, and the food quality was good.

We chose this hotel from the Hilton chain for its great location which didn't disappoint, although Portland itself was in total disrepair and there is nowhere the homeless population isn't out of control. The front desk staff was helpful and let us check our bags because we arrived early, which gave us a chance to drive and see the city a little without the bags in our vehicle and the risk of a break-in. When we came back to check in I realized I needed a charger cord and one of the off-duty staff was able to give me directions to a Walgreens as well as tell me which areas around town to avoid after dark which was greatly appreciated. In fact, the ONLY time we had a problem with the front desk was when the woman on duty the next day gave us directions to go see the Portlandia statue, not because they were wrong but because we walked all over and couldn't find it. When we came back and let her know we must have gotten lost she said, oh, it's all boarded up now and you can't see it. The room itself was nice, very clean and quiet, there is some street noise but that was expected in a downtown location. I would gladly stay here again.

Beautiful downtown Portland gem. No detail left unnoticed. We had a night at the Duniway to meet up with friends prior to our sons soccer match. From the incredibly nice gentleman that met us outside at our car, to the desk clerk telling us to have a wonderful day. We couldn't have asked for more. Upon entering the hotel you are met with an industrial vibe that is cool, but warm and welcoming. The scent in the lobby, I want my house to smell like that. The lobby bar was a great place to meet our friends. Great craft drinks and a buzzy vibe. Rooms are well appointed. I am a linin snob and loved the sheets on the comfy bed. Wonderful in room coffee, before heading down to breakfast. Breakfast! Do not miss!! It was incredible. All seven of us enjoyed our breakfast. So good and service that was even better. Wonderful way to start the day. The boys explored the hotel and said the pool was huge and beautiful. While I was a bit concerned about staying in downtown Portland, the staff at the Duniway and the city seem to be working at keeping things clean and safe. We will be back.

I'm not a smoker so I didn't ask at the front desk. The only people I saw smoking were outside the front doors of the hotel. I think the accepted area is between the doors and the entrance to the parking garage.

They will cheerfully offer a grab and go bag and act like this is an appropriate complimentary breakfast. Don’t waste your time. If you want a good breakfast in Portland drive or take an Uber to the original pancake house. Don’t waste your time on the other places that think good cooking means adding spices and peppers to everything.
We heard shots and flash bombs all night. At the time we didn’t know it was riots - we saw it the morning after on the news. I would avoid this section of downtown if possible - it just isn’t safe and unfortunately the hotel doesn’t have many amenities - not even a coffee shop.
There are more places to choose from in the Portland area.
