Excellent hotel and concierge Patrick! The hotel was beautiful and the Urban Farmer was the best hotel breakfast we ever had. The food is farm fresh and very tasty. Departure had outstanding views and drinks. Patrick gave us excellent advice going to Japanese garden, city tour with TJ, jazz music at 1905 and dinner and breakfast reservations. We can’t wait to return to the Nines hotel.

Overall our stay was amazing. It was honestly just a simple get away from our life in North Portland. No Kids, No Dishes, No Housework. Just me and my wife. Everyone at this hotel was very nice and accommodating. One person however that stuck out was Talia, the in room food service woman on the phone. Most people with this job at other hotels just can't wait to get off the phone with you but Talia was very engaging, and helpful with every stupid question I had. She was so patient and even pronounced my last name correctly. Such a simple pleasure but it made a difference in my experience. Definitely recommend staying here. Just remember it is in the middle of a city so you are going to hear an occasional siren or street car pass by. LOL. Something I forgot about.

The Nines is truly situated in the center of downtown Portland. Conveniently close (walking distance) to several nice restaurants we made reservations for. Extremely close to shopping. All the staffs, from check-in, housekeeping to bell boys, are courteous and helpful. I would especially highlight Patrick at the concierge. Before the trip, I emailed the concierge to get restaurants and activities recommendations. Patrick was extremely friendly and helpful on making suggestions and making reservations! His reply turnaround time was within 24 hours. And keep in mind the whole time he did not need to confirm my booking with the hotel (the hotel reservation was not under my name)! All in all, enjoyed the stayed at the Nines! It was clean, had a nice in-house farm to table restaurant. Would stay there again if I am to visit Portland again.

Great hotel with top notch food and staff!! The hotel is modern, super clean and in great location. The people who work there are very nice and we felt well taken care of for all our needs. The location is convenient to everything and on all transportation routes. The train from the airport stops right across the street, so do the street car and busses to Portland parks and major attractions. Most importantly the Urban Farmer restaurant and the Departure roof top restaurant offer really great food options and service. Definitely recommend if you need a pleasant place to stay in Portland!

Our Portland OR weekend stay in the Meier and Frank Suite at The Nines hotel was absolutely delightful. After my SNAs cleared a few days before arrival to a one bedroom suite, the hotel graciously pre-upgraded me even further thanks to my Ambassador status to the specialty Meier & Frank Suite — the hotel’s second nicest suite. We tipped the front desk well at the end of our stay! #AmbassadorStatusMatters #portlandor #luxurycollection #suiteupgrades #sna #specialtysuite #meierandfranksuite #SNAsDoWork #SNAsWorkInTheUSA FWIW my room rate was $269; the Meier & Frank Suite rate is usually $3500. Not too shabby for my $20K Ambassador status investment. We had disappointing air con for my Ambassador upgrade to the amazing The Nines Suite in August 2017 during the solar eclipse weekend, so I was careful to confirm again before booking that they really could guarantee 65 F — and the Ambassador team confirmed that the hotel engineering team promised as low as 60 F. And the hotel delivered. The suite was pre-cooled to 65 F upon our arrival. (I couldn’t go any lower this time since my husband would’ve murdered me.) The suite was wonderfully comfortable, with an entry powder bath in addition to the sizable main bathroom, an enormous and well appointed loving room and dining area, a separate den and office room, and a very spacious bedroom. The high ceilings in the living room and bedroom, along with the huge windows in both, allows tons of natural light. The only real drawbacks were the surprising small two closets for a suite this size and the lack of proper blackout shades — despite those being assured in advance. Thankfully we always bring eye masks just to be safe. The hotel didn’t bring a fan as per my #prearrivalchecklist, but the air con working so well made that superfluous. The hotel did have a bottle of cava, chocolate covered strawberries, and some local chocolate bars as a welcome amenity. The hotel also had extra bottles of water in the suite as requested. The main bathroom shower was perhaps my third favorite ever, with a fantastic overhead rain shower fixture as well as two smaller side fixtures in an obviously accessible and spacious shower area. Great pressure and easy temperature control. As far as I can recall, only the St Regis New York and Las Alcobas Mexico City showers have been more pleasurable for me. Housekeeping was prompt and pretty effective — though they did miss a few coffee cake crumbs by the side of the bed. For such a huge suite and in such understaffed circumstances, though, I was pleased and tipped them well. I asked if it were possible for turndown our second night after having trouble closing the automated blinds, and the hotel sent an engineer to do that for us instead — since housekeeping only works 10 am - 6 pm. Nice touch. Food and beverage was a bit uneven. Breakfast at Urban Farmer was a bit off, but in room dining breakfast and the Departures restaurant lounge for late drinks and appetizers/snacks were wonderful. The hotel’s Club Lounge is still closed FYI. Morning lobby coffee was available, but it wasn’t that great to me; my husband liked it more, though. Breakfast at the Urban Farmer restaurant clearly was overmatched and understaffed. But our server responded very well when we indicated we had an appointment to keep and the kitchen got our items out faster, even if they got mine wrong. Our server graciously comp’d my items without prompting. The elite breakfast benefit is $40 credit per room for either restaurant or in room dining, so we found that most reasonable. Breakfast quality was solid. In room dining this morning was much better — even as they sad they might be 35-45 minutes, we got it in less than 30. Pretty warm and every detail right, too. This was better quality, too. Our last night’s late night appetizers and drinks at the hotel’s top floor Departures Restaurant lounge (adjacent to the restaurant and serving a more limited menu) were fantastic. Sazeracs and the beef skewers were to die for. So we ordered them twice. The pork belly was also great (and huge). Service was excellent. We did have a few issues using the phones in the suite to call the front desk or valets, but using the app chat function actually worked extremely well to make that superfluous as well. They offered to send someone to fix the phones each time, but we just used the app instead when necessary. The team here was always very responsive on the app chat, even well before we arrived. As for the hotel’s downtown neighborhood, it felt incredibly safe to us as two men during the day — and even incredibly safe to us at night, walking back to the hotel across the river 30 min away from the Portland Spirit Cruise we did for my husband’s work event on Saturday night (1.5 miles). During the day we walked from the hotel to the main Coava Coffee Roasters to see our niece and her son (about 1.2 miles) and then to the Patagonia store to see her husband (about 1.5 miles) and then to the Multnomah Whiskey Library and back to the hotel (another 0.5 miles) — without worry. We saw a few homeless tents here and there but never were bothered in the slightest. There apparently are more homeless encampments on the other side of Burnside, but we never walked that far. Downtown Portland isn’t at all what some try to mischaracterize it as. For us, this was yet another very comfortable and enjoyable stay at The Nines where again we felt very well looked after. It’s still the best hotel in town by some margin IMO — at least until the Ritz-Carlton eventually opens in a year or two. And it was a wonderful weekend in downtown Portland despite all the nonsense reports to the contrary. P.S. Our dinner at Le Pigeon in town was sublime — and absolutely Michelin star worthy.

The hotel was clean and the staff were polite and helpful. It was situated in a central location. Nice roof top terrace. The room was supplied with an ironing board, iron & hairdryer. Nice clean bathroom and shower. Bed was big and very comfortable. But … The WiFi didn’t work on Saturday, perhaps because it was busy ? The main issue was that our room looked out into the atrium and the door to our room exited near the balcony, overlooking the atrium. This meant that the noise from the restaurant below was very intrusive, mainly through the door to our room. We asked if we could close the fire doors on the balcony and this helped a lot. I informed staff about the noise issue and I was told that the restaurant closed at 11pm. I understand there is little they can do and that this is a bit of a design flaw. I would go to the hotel again but I would make sure I had a different room.

Was trying to find red vines while staying at The Nines, went to four different locations, and no luck! Go figure, who doesn’t carry red vines? Apparently all the places I checked in downtown Portland. Walked back into the hotel to ask the bell desk if they had any ideas on where to locate, stating that I had already scoured a five block radius, and wasn’t that interested in walking much more in heels. Jason suggested the same places i went, but then suggested a little mom and pop connivence store another four blocks away. Deciding it wasn’t that serious, and didn’t need, I said thank for the suggestion and proceeded to my room. Not 20 minutes later, knock at door, and there is Jason with two boxes of red vines in hand!!!! Talk about going out of your way for a hotel guest!! Jason absolutely stepped up and delivered!! - Signed a forever grateful guest, NR.
