Room was for my daughter coming in from out of town. Beautiful old hotel that feels like stepping back in a forgotten time. Staff were all attentive, room was spotless and the view of the city from her room in the 8th floor was beautiful at night.

Meets the requirement of the four B's: Bed, Bathroom, Breakfast, and Bar.
Hotel was very clean, reception was warm at the front desk, as well as at the bar and brunch restaurant attached. The ambiance is upscale with a nod to old Hollywood everywhere. The room was comfy and clean, room service after 3 days of stay was nice but not needed. Water was hot instantly and the shower head was tall enough for my 6'3" to not have to stoop. If I had to find a fault with the stay is that the tub drained slowly so even in a shower the feet got a soak...which isn't half bad. $15 discount for breakfast daily was much better than your standard continental, good variety of options to choose from. The pickled peppers on the avocado toast were phenomenal, and the bacon fried rice was defeinitely orderd more than once during my stay.

I think a more accurate rating would be 9/10, but with a five-star system, you have to round.
Anyway, this was generally this was an excellent stay and I would stay again. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the waiting room clean, with excellent design decor. There are a full-service restaurant and a bar on the premises, each offering quality fare.
The room itself had big airy windows, with generous pillows on the bed and plenty of lights, including an overhead lamp, which isn't always available these days. There was no bathtub in my room, but the shower stall had some solid tilework; no plastic inserts here. TV service was OK, but I wasn't watching TV so it didn't bother me.
The one thing that I was concerned about was that the lights experienced brownouts every now and then. I'm not sure if it was something in my room (the minifridge, perhaps?) but every hour or so there would be a momentary dimming. It didn't disrupt most of my activities as I was either on a laptop or tablet on the few evenings I stayed in, but it was enough to be a little concerned.
Overall, I would happily stay again the next time I'm in Portland. Even if I didn't, it's worth a visit to the Driftwood Room and Gracie's, the bar and restaurant within the hotel.

Hotel Deluxe is my absolute favorite place to stay when visiting family in Portland. The hotel is beautifully inspired by old Hollywood glamour, with comfortable and stylish amenities that make for an unforgettable experience. The beds are incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and the bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed.
Customer service here is outstanding—every interaction is warm, professional, and attentive, truly setting the hotel apart. Their reasonably priced accommodations and convenient parking make it an excellent value, especially given its central location close to freeways and all the major attractions.
If you’re looking for a blend of vintage charm and modern comfort in Portland, I cannot recommend Hotel Deluxe enough!

If we didn’t have GPS we probably would have missed the hotel. We had just gotten back from a seven day cruise and a 3.5 hour train ride so the thought of trying to drag out bags up the steps was daunting to say the least but the guy who was there fixing bikes carried our bags up for us and wouldn’t allow me to tip him.
Our check in was smooth and although it was only 1:55 he let us check in early.
The room was huge. The bathroom alone was larger than our cabin on the cruise ship.
Being a germaphobe I sprayed everything with Lysol and my cousin wiped off the night stand and dresser which was filled with dust.
The cabinet door where the tv sat and the refrigerator is the door was broken. It was holding on by one hinge.
The refrigerator in our room was broken. We had leftovers dinner and no place to store home them. The front desk person stored them for us. Although the refrigerator wasn’t fixed or replaced he went above our expectations!
The staff were GREAT!
My only complaint would be no one told us our room was only cleaned/refreshed every three days.

I thought this would be a nice place to stay since my Venture X card has it as part of their "Lifestyle Collection". We checked in late in the day, and when we asked the front desk about any benefits for Capital One Venture X cardholders, he said we would have to ask the morning shift about it because he doesn't know.
Stayed there for 3 nights. When arriving at our room the room, there were potato chip crumbs on the floor, no ice bucket or cups in the room, and one of the bottles of water was less than full. We addressed the water issue the following day when we were passing by the reception area and they said they would take care of it.
Coffee is provided in the lobby, but be careful because it might come with coffee ground residue.
They never fixed the water bottle situation, and on our day of checkout we reminded the same woman at the front desk. We were carrying our bags out at the time, so when we were done and ready to pick up our receipt, she said "we've taken care of your charges and you’re all set". We assumed we were not going to be charged for the breakfast we had the day before, especially since she did not give me a receipt on our way out.
Two days later, I see a charge on my credit card statement and when I called to find out about it, every time I would ask a question, the woman answering would say how I called during check-in and she was busy. In the middle of asking my questions, she just hung up on me. I haven't received my statement of charge, so if you do stay here and need one, make sure to get it before you physically leave the hotel.

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience. I'm sorry to hear about the numerous issues you encountered during your stay. It’s disappointing to see that the cleanliness of the room, the lack of amenities, and the unresolved issues with the water bottle were not addressed properly. It’s also concerning that there was a lack of knowledge about the benefits for Capital One Venture X cardholders and that your inquiries about the charges were not handled professionally.

We LOVED the vintage feel of the place, which is why we chose to stay with you. The staff was attentive, and exceptional.
However, the room was severely lacking, unfortunately. First, we had a giant bulge in our ceiling that clearly needed addressed. Our sink in the bathroom didn't drain. The room was FAR too warm--even with the thermometer set at the lowest setting and the window open, we were very warm all night. The bed was way too firm and the pillows were way too thick and firm to sleep on.
What was probably worst, though--the walls seemed to be paper thin. We woke up at 5:00 am (after a very late night Friday), to hear people in the next room talking. We realized, in fact, that what we heard was someone talking on the phone, and the walls were so thin that we could actually hear the person on the other end of the line. And to top things off, housekeeping knocked and called out at every door in the hallway (including ours) at 8:30 am, on a Saturday morning. I have never stayed in a hotel in my 40+ years of traveling, in which housekeeping knocked on the door before 10 or 11.
For such a beautiful place and amazing staff, it's too bad these other things detracted from the experience, but it really did. And based on these things, we could never recommend this hotel to anyone else.

My stay at the downtown Portland Hotel deLuxe was a delightful experience! The hotel staff truly stood out, providing exceptional service throughout my stay. The convenient location, with the Max Light Rail train just a stone's throw away on a nearby cross street, made exploring the city by foot and public transportation a breeze. Tip: if you drive and upgrade to the paid parking, the public parking lot the hotel uses is, as stated, public, and you are not guaranteed a spot (Saturday night being particularly busy downtown, I struggled to find a parking space despite having paid for one.) The playful old Hollywood movie star theme added a unique and charming touch to the small but well appointed rooms. The a/c was just barely doing the trick, though I don't think that would normally be an issue except in 90° weather, as it was. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to have a wonderful time in downtown Portland.

My hairstylist recommended Hotel Deluxe when I told her we were going to the Green Day concert at Providence Park. So happy she did! The staff were super friendly!
Right after we got there, we'd parked in the taxi spot of the loading zone. The doorman (didn't catch his name) immediately warned us that we should move up because he's seen people get tickets in no time.
Everyone we encountered, from the front desk to the room attendant in the hallway who gave us directions to our room, were so genuinely friendly.
I booked a deluxe queen room. It was on the smaller side, but not overly so. Room was a bit stuffy, but opening the window helped. We were tucked at the end of the hallway (228), but I was impressed by how quiet our room was. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It sounds weird, but I appreciated the various lamps/wall lights. It was easy to create ambiance instead of just having to deal with overly bright lights.
Parking was easy and right across the street. The garage is a little tight, even in a smaller car. We packed light (we only stayed one night) so having to take the stairs wasn't an issue for us personally, but I see how that could be prohibitive for some.
Overall, I would definitely stay here again for a Providence Park event. It's a short walk, and with the pre/post event crowds, we felt fairly safe. We walked on Yamhill, along the MAX line, just to stay within proximity to the crowd.

This is an historical hotel in the Portland area that has kept his mistique and elegance over time. Nestled in a prime location within walking distance from downtown Portland the Hotel Deluxe is a hit among travelers for its value and historic charm. The decor has been pristinely kept, rooms are clean and bathrooms are updated to modern standards without jeopardazing its historical heritage. The decor remembering the golden Hollywood years (40s-60s) makes you feel like you are wolking through a museum. Overall: Excellent for people that seeks a glimpse of the past.
