Stayed for six nights and very pleased with my room and the guesthouse. Bathrooms are shared but kept spotless and bedroom (#2) was very comfortable and quiet. Basic breakfast available in shared kitchen. Everything you want. Great neighborhood and easy to get to from the airport. Will be coming back.

We stayed in the Flanders Apartment at the PDX International Guesthouse and it was perfect for us. The apartment has its own fully stocked kitchen, private bath, washer/dryer and a separate bedroom which was perfect for when one wanted to nap and the other watch TV. There are so many amazing restaurants within a few blocks and if you want to cook your own meals their is a Trader Joe’s right next door!

The unit is located so close to Washington Park, the Rose Test Garden, the Japanese Gardens and the Chinese Gardens. We had a rental car but discovered you really don’t need one. Portland has amazing Public Transportation (street cars, light rail, buses) and Uber and Lyft were readily available.

Our hosts, Stepehen and Thomas, could not have been any friendlier or more helpful. They gave us tips and suggestions about what to do and where to go that you’ll never get from a guide book or online guides.

If you’re looking for a great place in a cool neighborhood that close to so much that Portland has to offer, you will be happy you stayed at the PDX International Guesthouse. We plan to come back as we didn’t see and do it all in three days!

I loved my stay at pdxguesthouse.com
Superb location, very clean, friendly team of guys who manage it. A lot like the places I have stayed in Germany or Holland.
Everything you want to see/do in Portland is within walking distance or a short tram or train ride. I didn't even need a car.

RACIST atrocious host Do not stay! Booked a DOUBLE occupancy room for 2 nights and the host refused to let me stay before the first night just because a friend dropped me off after dinner. The hysterical host yelled out all worst languages: F word B word multiple times. He Threw my shoes off the staircase. They never checked ID either!! Never had encountered such atrocious human being / experience my whole life!

Of course, this is a lie. Silin was thrown out of the guesthouse for inappropriate behavior. She was warned and continued to do so. She risked the safety and security of the other guests. Expedia, where she made the reservations, backed up our decision. She was never called those words. To even suggest racism demonstrates an entitled brat who exhibits no self-reflection or takes any responsibility for their actions.

My wife and I bailed on this place after spending an hour trying to find a place to park in the overcrowded, traffic-crammed neighborhood. There is NO ON-SITE PARKING at this facility (contrary to its misleading description at Booking.com) and while the owner tells you you can buy a permit from the city to park on the street, there is actually no guarantee that parking is available even with a permit. We found one garage a block away that physically locks its doors overnight so you have no access to your car when they are closed. Location is fine if you are exploring the Pacific Northwest by Uber, but don't bother staying here if you own or are renting a car. There are much better options available with parking. Owners refunded one of our two nights but refused to refund the other. We would never have stayed here if their advertising had been honest.

Review is so unhinged I cannot respond more than to say, they read nothing, did not park where we suggested - instead chose the underground parking lot for Pottery Barn? Staff remained super pleasant as these folk hurled obscenities - over parking. Definitely YouTube Karen material. We reported them to Booking.com for their abuse and profanity.

When we made our reservation we were required to leave a deposit. Our plans changed so we had to cancel our stay. After cancelling , I continued to receive confirmations of our reservation. I was also waiting for a refund. I asked the guesthouse to please refund our deposit. To this, they wrote back "We refunded your deposit on the 16th, you idiot."

Your review is entirely inaccurate. We refunded your deposit immediately after receiving your cancelation and sent you a cancelation email stating that we had refunded your deposit. We did not send you another confirmation. Apparently, you did not read it. Two days later we did not receive a 'please refund' note from you, we received a nasty note demanding an immediate refund or you would file a dispute. Regarding my response to you - that was accurate.

I’ve stayed at the guesthouse for many years and will return whenever I’m in Portland. Comfortable and clean, it just feels like home. The staff is so gracious and helpful, they’re now more like family. Professional and knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the city with all it has to offer. I’ve referred many friends and family here and will continue to do so.

It's not that this place is awful, but it should definitely not be ranked so high (currently #3!) for B&Bs in Portland. Here's why:
First off, service: the place is completely impersonal and generic. It's run on auto-pilot mode, which means you will not see an actual human being running anything (welcoming you, checking in/out, etc.). You get your key by putting in an access code and everything else you have to figure out from signs posted everywhere. "Breakfast" is a few boxes of cereal sitting on the counter and coffee that you brew yourself.
As for the "decor," it looks like a random mix of ikea/dorm room/garage sale. Essentially, the impression I walked away with is that the owner put(s) as little effort into this place as possible and tries to run the place in absentee, auto-pilot mode.
The result is a totally uninspired and unwelcoming experience--which for $80 a night might be just fine for some people, but it's nothing you wouldn't get from staying at a cheap motel and part of the reason people choose B&Bs is usually for a more interesting experience.
Finally, location. This was a real disappointment since the website claims that it's in the heart of the best part of Portland--not true! It's not in the heart of anything. It's on a residential street in between two fairly busy streets that have chain stores and sports bars. It feels suburban and not at all hip. Everything that was recommended to me was in the opposite sector of the city so I was always commuting. If the 'vibrant' neighborhood the website is referring to is the Pearl district, that's at least a mile away on foot.
And one last thing in case it matters to you, don't get excited that it's a "gay-friendly B&B" since the term is meaningless here--there's absolutely nothing gay or friendly about it. You won't see rainbow flags, gay magazines, it's not in the cool gay neighborhood, etc.

Again, if you're looking for a relatively cheap crash-pad and don't care about these things, then this might be a good option for you. But I definitely would not want to spend more than one night here. It will add absolutely nothing to enhance your impression or experience of the city. I would so much rather spend $20 more a night and go somewhere memorable with a better location.

Wow, I’m really sorry this person had such a bad experience! As the owner, I always want people to enjoy our guesthouse and our wonderful neighborhood. Instead of countering these mischaracterizations of our facility, neighborhood and our gay friendliness I suggest readers take a look at our other reviews that give an accurate measure of our establishment. Cheers, Stephen

Good, clean, value for money GH. Rooms are good quality, bathrooms and kitchen clean. Lots of info on Portland, good quiet location close to two main streets for shopping and food, beautiful area, close to bus stops if needed. Shared bathrooms, but enough to go around. Arrival and check in system easy, regardless of when you check in. Keep in mind it is like a high end hostel rather than a hotel, so the room isn't cleaned every day, the breakfast is basic but OK (self serve) and there are common areas - very cosy.
Portland has a number of very good mid range hotels as well elsewhere but I would come back here as good value for money and good location. WiFi is good too.

I had a great experience staying here for one night in Room #2. The price was more than fair and the location suited my needs perfectly--close to Trader Joe's and NW 23rd, within walking distance to the TriMet MAX station that takes you to the airport, and within walking distance (in the other direction) to a streetcar stop. Although my room was compact and rather plain in decor, it was immaculately clean and had everything I needed--including an iron, which I had not expected. Initially I was a little apprehensive about using a shared bathroom down the hall. But there were two of them within a few feet of my room, both neat as a pin, and I only had to wait once. Please be aware that the sound from the neighboring guestroom does carry over somewhat--both ways, I'm assuming.

Both the owner and manager were extremely kind, helpful and friendly. My only contact with them was over the phone and through email but I never had any difficulty getting in touch with them. They went out of their way to give me sterling advice about the public transportation system and securely stowed my luggage for a few hours after I checked out. I felt like they welcomed me into their home and offered unobtrusive, excellent service while allowing me to have all the privacy I wanted.

I was a single woman traveller and would recommend this as a good choice. Safe neighborhood, easy access to public transport (so easy to reach from the airport) and lots of good restaurants nearby. One of the ways to get downtown would take you through a neighborhood with some dodgy looking characters but Portland is urban and I never felt threatened or at risk. Just stick to main streets at night - same advice as for anywhere else you would stay in Portland. The guesthouse has good security and I felt very safe there. I enjoyed my stay and look forward to going back.
