Our stay at Surftides was enjoyable. Beach access on sight was nice. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable except the fireplace did not work. In my mind, $5.00 for a ‘purse size’ gel hand sanitizer or an 11.5oz bottle of water is exorbitant considering our double room was $150+.

Our family booked Room 216 and overall was happy with it. It is right next to the beach access stairway, the balcony overlooks the beach on one side and has the fire pits just outside the door. The room was considered a King Suite with a bedroom with a king bed and the main room with another king bed and a futon. The amenities were ok, this is an older hotel so its not fancy but with kids was fine. The main problem was the coffee maker; the first didn't have all the parts, the second one was "mismatched" from the carafe to the actual body, the third was a k-cup style and wouldn't pump the water :-(. We found the front desk to be courteous and responsive when needing extra towels, etc. The convenience was excellent and the hotel met our needs but wasn't fancy.

I admittedly have been charmed by the many comforts and great views Surftides has had to offer for so many years. This visit was no different in that regard. I'll start with all the things it gets right. The interior of the rooms has been recently given a facelift, and has added to my appreciation of the hotel itself. The views from the ocean view rooms while relaxing on the exterior balconies may be unmatched in the area. The property shares a line with one of the better...and cleaner beachfronts in Lincoln City and has quick access to a number of shops, restaurants, stores...and Chinook Winds Casino (if some evening gambling is your thing). Their pool, steam room and spa amenities are a huge plus. All of which are clean and well maintained. The staff are pleasant, courteous and attentive. Love the firepit and smores idea as well. The minuses are fewer, but significant enough that they should be addressed. The concrete walkways and under-carriage of the hotel itself (while walking down to the beach) aren't as well lit as you may like at night. Some people have left behind litter and there doesn't seem to be an adequate number of garbage receptacles to address the problem. The shop in the front lobby is nice and has some decent souvenirs. Though they are a tad on the expensive side. The pool reservation system may have been in its early stages, as of our visit, but was not yet very organized or well thought out. Done on paper, there were accidental cases of double booking. As stated prior, the interiors of the room have been given a facelift. The hotel exterior however, is beginning to show its age. Lastly, I would like to state, there are security concerns. This is a good area but all it would take, is the wrong type of person to stay in the hotel to exploit them. I will not mention the specifics of them in this review as I would not want the hotel or its guests to be compromised by knowledge of them. If the hotel is aware of what these are, I would urge them to make changes to avoid risk. If not, I'd encourage them to reach out to me so I can give them more detail. I stumbled onto these concerns by pure accident and had no knowledge of them prior to this visit. And I have visited many times. Overall, a good place to stay. With a few minor adjustments, it could even be great. Thank you Surftides staff, for your hospitality.

I have stayed at Surftides many many times and have always had an excellent experience. Until now, we got the jacuzzi room to have a romantic night away. Upon arriving to our room the front door knob is broken so the door is hard to shut and then we entered into one of the nastiest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. It was clear not much had been cleaned prior to our arrival as there is toothpaste splatter on the wall near the sink, our bed had MULTIPLE very long strands of silver hair which didn’t belong to either of us, a USED false eyelash in the jacuzzi along with more hair and just filth. The bathroom was nowhere near cleaned it up to any standard of sanitized especially in the middle of a pandemic the least they could do is make sure the room is actually clean. It was by far the coldest room I have ever been into as the heat was up on high all night and we still were freezing with multiple layers on. We paid almost 300 for one night in this nasty room. Which wouldn’t have been bad if it was clean and didn’t look like the jacuzzi came out of a Griswold family vacation. While checking out I brought the room issues up to the front desk and the only response I got was “ oh wow that’s not normal I’ll write that down “ and while the rooms cleanliness is not on the front desk I believe something should have been done. I didn’t want my stay to be free as I understand the cost of running a business but, I do expect a room to be clean and free of previous residents residue. We will not be returning based solely on the response of the complaint. There was no care, no effort to make anything right so, we would maybe want to return. This was once my absolute favorite place to stay but, what a waste of a romantic weekend Surftides was. There is also a random fake duck hanging by a noose under the hotel where to beach access was which was disturbing in itself.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, I apologize for the condition of your room. We have obviously fallen below our own expectations and standards when it comes to the cleanliness of the room. It seems we missed the opportunity to correct these issues and the chance to make things right while you were here. It is certainly our goal to have every guest depart happier than when they arrived. Reading about your experience gives me some insight into several areas of key improvements needed and I will certainly speak with all of the staff involved to collaboratively improve operations. I know that this stay was nothing close to acceptable and I'm hopeful that we may have the opportunity to earn your business again in the future. Please reach out to me if you would like to discuss further. Taj Greenman Front Desk Supervisor tgreenman@surftideshotel.com 541-994-2191

We stayed here for a few nights, most of the electrical outlets could barely hold a plug properly, only the one in the bathroom seemed to be able to do that. Bathroom smelled musty, like water damage that was not fixed properly or continues to leak slowly. Plug in sink did not work. When the next room turned on the water for the shower or bath, you definitely knew about it and from the sound of ours I’m guessing they knew when we turned on ours, too. Room was spacious, it would be good to have a table and some chairs instead of a couch that really did not belong in the room. Really enjoyed the Mist restaurant , we sat at the bar, met some very friendly regulars that lived close by, food was pretty good too, great atmosphere. Will not stay at this hotel again in the future but will visit Mist again for sure. Take a sweater for the evenings it does cool down, beach was great.

Management has changed at Surftides. Our family has been coming here for 20+ years and over the past year they have removed several amenities that are pretty basic and some that were pretty special to Surftides. And this was happening way before COVID.

They don't make lovely, hot chocolate chip cookies in the evening any more. No more wine tastings in the afternoon.

They removed the fresh coffee in the lobby along with DVD's, wine and other snacks for purchase. Even Motel 8 has fresh coffee in the lobby! The rooms now have these super cheap coffee makers that DO NOT WORK. You have to push the start button about 8 to 10 times to get your cup full - it's just weird and it hasn't worked the past 3 times we were there.

The staff was very disgruntled on our visit in late 2019 and they feel that management is spending money on the wrong stuff. Our room was dirty, coffee maker and fireplace broken in 2019. The manager wouldn't credit that visit, but did give us 2 nights at a special rate. When we tried to use this special, the new "management" refused to honor the deal. In scrolling through other deals, I found this is a common problem with Surftides. So, if they offer you a "future" deal, don't take it. Make them apply the credit to your current stay.

It's a shame - it's a nice hotel, rooms are nice, right on the beach. We won't be returning until we find that they have upped their game back to the basics of an ocean front hotel charging $200++ per night

Response from Jennifer Cho, Owner at Surftides Lincoln City
Responded Aug 2, 2020
Good afternoon Mrs. Anna Maloney, Thank you for your review and for the feedback. I apologize you had a less than stellar experience with us. We are complying with state and county mandates, therefore lawfully- we are not allowed to serve food and beverages in our lobby, or have DVD’s, or even newspapers in our public spaces. Of course- how can we expect our guests to know, therefore it has been a struggle for us business owners to give exceptional customer service when our hands are tied on trying to provide certain amenities, and avoid misunderstandings. Luckily we have a full service restaurant and Phase I allows us to share food and beverages with our guests. Our ownership has been the same for 50+ years, therefore managers who may be different from your previous stay from your most current, are all under our direction. I was informed of your deal made by a former employee and decided to honor that. I was also present at the point of check in when Mr. Maloney was there to extend that deal. I heard the entire conversation. I am very sorry to hear you are disappointed with our amenity changes, but I believe businesses need to evolve for success. I’m sorry you and Mr. Maloney feel we took away certain things, but our other guests love what we have done, appreciate the changes, and the thoughtful details. Changes must be done for future success, as it refreshes the business and shows that the owners care by trying new things and being innovative. If you would like to reach out, please do so at jcho@surftideshotel.com. Thank you again for your feedback, and I appreciate your thoughtful review, Jennifer Cho Managing Director

Checked in 2-6-21 @1:15 p.m..Room was 46 degrees. Small wall heater that you might find in a very small bathroom. This and the gas fireplace is all the heat these rooms have. At 8:30 p.m. the temp was 61 degrees. When I called front desk was told they would call maintenance, informed them maintenance could not do anything, just no way to heat a room of this size with small heater. The bathroom at the other end from where the heater is never got above 60 degrees. Have been staying here off and on for over 45 years and will not again.
They charge a premium price for their rooms and provide something way less than premium.

I made a reservation 5 weeks before the trip. For some reason, hotel staff waited for 3.5 weeks before reviewing the number of reservations in their hand and they canceled ours days before the trip. I am seeing that hotel is open those days. Why our booking was canceled but other reservations not? Why they waited 3.5 weeks to make any action? I didn't get any explanations or apology. They could review reservations daily and cancel it them right away before waiting for weeks. Now we have just days left and our alternatives are way more expensive at this time. Stay away from this hotel at all costs.

Responded Aug 15, 2020
Thank you for choosing our hotel for your beach getaway, I apologize that we had to cancel your reservation on short notice. It should have been more clearly conveyed to you during the cancellation process that the reason for cancelling was not due to an overbooking that had been overlooked for weeks, but was due to the need to close more than 65 rooms here on the property. We have found that maintaining all 140+ rooms to the level we consider to be necessary during these times, is not doable with our current staffing levels. We felt it was safer for our guests and staff both, to close those rooms and focus on making sure the remainder of our rooms were cleaned in a manner that was satisfactory and did not put anyone at risk. We are hopeful that in the near future we will be able to hire and train additional staff and we will be able to accommodate all future reservations. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and we hope you will be able to visit us in the future when circumstances are different.

After the sun started setting we turned on the light between the beds and found the tabletop between the beds were completely filthy. We had to put a hand drying towel on it so we wouldn't dirty our glasses, cups, and such. The sink table top was also dirty. Both these areas showed dried fluids reminiscent of orange juice, milk, or such. A shelf below the TV was completely covered with sand/dirt. The bathroom only had one bar of soap so we had to share the sink soap in the shower. The shower curtain wasn't waterproof so water covered the floors after showers. Very disappointed considering the cost of the room.

Tried to charge me $1281 at check in for a room I booked on Booking.com 2.5 months ago for $1016. Then on arrival at the room it hadn’t been even cleaned yet. After waiting 40 minutes while it supposedly was. Had to wait an additional 30 minutes. Patio door glass is so weather worn you can hardly enjoy that ocean view you’re paying for. Patio door screen fell off twice now, just leaving it. Bath tub takes 30-40 minutes to drain. Front desk told us they would move us to a different room Saturday. It’s now Saturday morning and they’re not moving us at all. They’re actually going to do nothing. They want $300 plus a night here. You can do better. I paid $254 a night and feel totally RIPPED OFF!

I have stayed here numerous times with my dog and they very pet friendly. You dog gets a gift basket at check-in! Easy access to beach and large area for dogs to do their business with poo bags available. Also a washing station to remove the ocean and sand before going to room. Absolutely love this place and my dog can’t wait to go again. P.S. they do charge a daily fee, not sure how much for 3 dogs so give them a call.
