We have been coming to Gearhart by the Sea almost yearly for the last 23 years. The location simply can’t be beat! The staff is great, always with smiles and a desire to attend to your requests. The only complaint I have is that it seems that the pet rooms always seem to be a bit dingy. I’m paying $15/night for my pet because I would expect that the room is deep cleaned more often. Honestly, it’s not awesome when you walk in bare feet inside the condo and after a short time your feet are brown and dirty. They certainly vacuum, but steam cleaning the carpet more often should be a priority, plus mopping the kitchen floor after each checkout should occur, as it was obvious that didn’t happen in our condo. I will say, however, that the pricing is awesome in the winter and spring, and the location and service is enough to bump it to 4 stars. We will continue to return.

We were on the 3rd floor, facing the ocean- couldn't have a better view. The condo was clean and comfortable. Had to buy my own frying pans because the ones provided belonged in the trash! Each unit is privately owned, so some are better, some worse. You never really known until you get there. We previously stayed in houses during our visits to the Coast, so thought we would give a condo a try. If you don't mind condo living this is probably great for you. The staff is quick to respond to requests for supplies-toilet paper, tissue, paper towels, etc. The building is old and we lost power one day and water another. Daily grounds maintenance had lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc. noise breaking the ocean waves sounds until evening. We won't stay again.

After my review here from a September stay the management team at the Gearhart really made up for the disaster that happen. They gave us a comp for the weekend and another weekend free of charge. So needless to say we are going to give it another try in March - so I will keep you updated - The front desk staff was extremely professional through this whole ordeal

This was our second visit to Gearhart by the Sea and it met every one of our expectations, even amidst global hysteria and uncertainty. After months of quarantine and sheltering in place it was necessary for us to get out, enjoy the peace and wonder of the Pacific, and leave the house. Gearhart was the obvious choice with the fast and friendly customer service, the confidence in cleanliness, and proximity to the sights in Astoria, food and play in Seaside, and of course the available option to drive down the beach (our favorite part).
Gearhart by the sea is within walking distance to the sandy beaches (where I would visit in early mornings), it offers spectacular views of both the ocean and the mountainside, and even with a full parking lot I never heard even a crack of a floorboard from another room.
Our particular room slept 2 adults and up to two kids comfortably, a sweet kitchen with all standard appliances,a cozy wood burning fireplace, and lovely/understated beach decor.
Not a single word of disappointment regarding our summer weekend here. Thank you to the staff and owners for making it possible to enjoy such a beautiful place at an affordable rate.

I was trying to find a place that didnt charge a crazy amount for this time of year, but had a view of the ocean and was comfortable. It took 3 days of searching online and right before I was ready to give up on our first trip out of town since 3/2020, I stumbled onto Gearhart by the Sea. I am so happy I did!!!

We stayed in G696, which is on the 4th floor with mostly SW views of the ocean, but its a wonderful view. On a clear day you can see all the way to Seaside from the balcony. Its a huge balcony by the way. Enough room to have at least 4 people comfortanbly sit in the nice beach chairs they have.
The condo itself looks just like the photos. Clean, open floor plan, comfortable, calming and just a great place to unwind. The beds were comfortable, the couch was comfortable and the whole feel was...well comfortable.
The kitchen had all the necessities we needed to stay in and cook. Including a blender!
The owners really care about their place and it definitely shows.
Since booking this place a couple weekends ago, I have booked a stay again for the future. We havent stayed in any of the other condos, but we found one we loved, so why try another???

The office staff was super polite, helpful and cheerful. The restaurant staff at the McMennamins directly across the way were also very polite and helpful.

The only CON I could come up with is.. that the bedroom is next to the walkway to get to all the rooms and elevator on the 4th floor. So it may get loud if someone isn't being polite late at night or early in the morning. We didn't have any issues, but I can see that possibly being one.

We are definitly going to keep coming back anytime we want to head to the North Oregon Coast.

Stayed in G708 and would recommend it; if you don't want clean fresh sheets, towels or black hairs in the shower and on the toilet upon arrival. Please keep your socks on, as carpet hasn't been cleaned since 2004 maybe. Hope you love dog smell for a non pet unit. IF anyone was charged for a pet, they didn't use it for a bottle of Fabreze. The sliding doors don't lock and whistle from being old and broken. PVC tubing was the secure door lock. Recommended for fishermen, they smell like fish and are probably too drunk to know a terrible place to stay.

This is an old condo area in north Gearhart. We stayed in G608 of Gearhart House on the first floor. Comfortable stay. Super great rental value for so close to the beach. Gearhart is very quiet and off the beaten path. It is mostly upscale non-rental residences, so to find an affordable rental was nice. Near drive-on to beach. About 2 blocks walk to the beach. You can drive on the beach (4 wheel drive is best) from here up to the Fort Stevens Park area. Clamming is nearby all along this coast (when the season is open). Nice pool/hot tub in separate building. Easy drive to Seaside, Warrenton, Astoria. Lots of good restaurants in the area besides McMenamins, The Sand Trap, across the street. Each unit is independently owned so decor & style, age of furnishings varies. Check in and check out were seamless at the office across the street. Near a nice golf course which we did not use. A nearby drive to Sunset Beach Trailhead has nice walking trails. Thanks to the owners for sharing this nice little old condo with us.

We recently booked a 3 night stay in unit G443 and it was a nightmare. Everything was disgusting and smelled of mold or animal urine. The bedspreads haven’t been washed in…possibly ever? The towels were unwashed, shower floor panel had black mold and green body wash caked all over. Sliding glass door curtains looked to be covered in blood spatter. Area rug had urine stains, lamp shades covered in thick dust. Had to disinfect everything myself to keep my sanity. Used my garment steamer to sanitize bedding and couches.

To resort’s credit, they offered a partial refund of $480 and put us in a new unit the last day/night of visit.

The proximity to the beach was amazing but that was the only positive take away.

Just stayed at Gearheart by the Sea in room 742. We booked last minute so not a lot of availability to chose from. Room 742 is dated, like the owner has done zero to the unit since the 1980’s. There is water damage on several walls in the unit that have not been repaired. The carpet is very old, faded, and stained. The shower heads are very low. I’m 5’5 and the shower head was at my shoulders. Toilet doesn’t flush well either. Curtains are coming off the rails.
The plus, it was clean.
Internet is terrible. Streaming just doesn’t happen.
I would not stay in that unit again.

I can’t say enough about how much we enjoy staying here. It our north coast go-to every time. We’ve never been disappointed once except when it’s time to head home. It is close enough to Seaside and all their amenities but once you get back to your room it’s like you have a section of beach all to yourselves.

Google their name and go to the website direct. You can choose he unit you stayed in from there and then go back and book at a travel site if you wish.

No continental breakfast. It is a condominium hotel with each unit owned by a different person so the rooms are furnished differently and there is no free breakfast.
