I have never stayed in a hostel before, this one is funky and fun full of art and an interesting eclectic bunch of people that stay here. I had a nice breakfast with a guy from San Francisco and a lady from the Netherlands. I had a semi private room with a bunkbed another gentleman slip up on top bunk we shared a bathroom with two other guys in the adjoining room other than the squeaky door it was like staying in a dorm with all your long lost cousins. Lots to see in the yard and the grounds. The website says nightly entertainment you are the entertainment if you know how to play the piano they have one they have a music room but it’s self serve! Alas we had no piano player last night.
Where do I start. I show up and I find out that they didn't even confirm my stay. They had to move people around for me. After 10 hours of working at the college I come back and the staff just handed my bed off, even though my stuff was by it. I had to sleep in the reading room where it was roughly 90.degree. There was secondary pot smoke that was in the air that filled the house. So, I was basically high the whole time... There was a lack of service that I can't even begin to say. I beg you don't stay here, no matter the price you will regret it.
I was traveling on a MAJOR budget and this was the best bang for your buck when comparing the amenities and general location. I stayed for 4 days and 3 nights in a private room for some perspective on this review. AMENITIES - The free breakfast that is served in the mornings was SUPER helpful. Many AirBnB's don't offer free breakfast or even a kitchen, but this hostel does, and to top it off breakfast is served from the early morning to 10:45am, meaning you can sleep in til 10am and still have a complimentary breakfast. While I only had toast with jam topped with banana slices with a cup of coffee, it was more than enough to get my day started and save money that could now be spent towards lunch and dinner. If you really really really wanted to be budget friendly, you could walk 3-5 minutes down to a local grocery store and buy eggs and other breakfast foods as their kitchen is open to use as needed. LOCATION - What was perfect about the hostel is that it's within 5 minutes of a PeaceHealth Rides Social Bikes rack. I was able to skip multiple $8 to $12 Uber rides to Downtown Eugene by purchasing a monthly pass for $15 allowing me to get a free hour of biking per day (after the hour it is 10 cents per minute billed by the minute). I was able to explore so much of the downtown areas since the road is mostly flat and easy to ride, and with dozens and dozens of Social Bike racks placed at key areas of the city, it was a huge no brainer when it came down to costs. I easily could've used Uber for the 8 trips around town and spent $10 on each drive but I saved so much in just using the bikes. The Hostel is also located within 5 minutes walking distance from Slice Pizzeria, Willamette Artisan Pizza (literally right next door), a few bars and wineries, and a few Japanese and Chinese cuisine places. You can easily walk down to Slice to grab a bite and watch the nightly karaoke in their outside patio, have some Sake at Izakaya Meiji Co. and walk back to the hostel and enjoy the incredibly cozy atmosphere of the hostel. SERVICE - The owner was kind, welcoming and accommodating! I'm honestly in disbelief that some of the 1 Star reviews were mostly on the attitude of the owner. We had a good few conversations but most of my time in Eugene was spent exploring the city. I briefly ran into the other staff but they were mostly reserved and kept to themselves which is totally fine. OVERALL - Great location, great for your budget, book on their website! PHOTOS - Mostly of the surrounding spots near the hostel, all within biking distance!…
I LOVED staying here! Such a warm and cozy place. The vibes here were really great - the owner and the other guests were so friendly! The breakfast is great - I had toast with peanut butter and banana, and an organic oatmeal. This hostel was such a cozy spot to sit down with a good book. They have a (electric) fireplace, a bunch of cozy chairs, a friendly cat and a TON of good books. Plus it's right by everything - the brewery, amazing lunch spots, you can even walk to the river or to a hike! I'm going to stay here whenever I'm in Eugene!
I've never stayed in a hostel & had no idea what to expect. However, I am working to better myself & experience wonderful new things, so I did it. I had incredible conversations with a brand new mixed bag of great folks. Initially my social anxiety/awkwardness threw me BUT the hosts were awesome, I met amazing people, the impromptu music by the fire was crazy good, best nights sleep I've had in a very long while. I highly recommend!
This hostel was absolutely lovely. It's comfortable, clean, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The beds and linens were extremely comfortable, and it was easy to get a good nights sleep. I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling through, and I definitely will go back in the future.
I loved this hostel! It is conveniently located in Eugene close to the university but in a fairly quiet neighborhood. The overall feel is cozy and welcoming, and it has so much character! The room was clean, and the bedding was incredibly comfortable. The people who run it are very nice as well. 10/10 would recommend!
Dig this cozy spot. The owner is a chill, professional guy who runs the place quite well. Good conversation from other folks there. Owner and employees offer great recommendations for local eats, brews, and attractions. 10/10 will visit again.
I am 63 yrs. old this was the very first experience being in a hostel. I am conservative and this was definitely outside the box for me. it was a fantastic experience. I am a stickler for clean. The hostel was clean, from bathrooms, kitchen to beds in the dorms. The beds are comfortable. Sunday is potluck day. There is also free breakfast cereals, oatmeal and for a buck coffee. There is no T.V. here which makes it better to associate with the people. I've met people from Germany, Switzerland, India, and from all over the USA. You get to know the people and the staff. Everyone is like family. There are both a piano and organ to play as well as records. The neighborhood is quiet and the people walking by are very friendly and will strike up a conversation with you, it's also safe in the neighborhood as well in the hostel. The houses in the neighborhood are turn of the century, the old part of Eugene in the Whiteaker district. The prices are reasonable too. Nearby there are cafe's, restaurants, health food grocery stores, and regular grocery stores too. The river is nearby and you can rent a bike here at the hostel. For a big city Eugene, Oregon is unique. There are many cultural things to do here from music in the park to festivals, plays, and more. I spent 8 days here and it was a wonderful experience. I would do it again.…
I've stayed at many hostels and this one of my favorites! Incredible place. Clean. Genuinely, friendly staff. Great kitchen utensils and breakfast. Plenty of common areas to hang out in. Some quiet, others with music etc. Potluck is really fun to meet other travelers and locals. Cool neighborhood - walk to all kinds of shops, restaurants, the river, parks, coffee shops, etc. Stayed in the female dorms.
