Once again, the Balch surpassed my hopes. On a hot, hot July day, we sipped cold white wine on the cool lawn, then were treated to a delightful dinner on the breezy patio. Staff members were upbeat and personable even behind masks, and service was gracious. We appreciated the attention to health precautions, yet the environment retained its calming, uplifting atmosphere. We'll be back...

Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I had been on the road throughout the West for over two weeks when we got to the Balch. From the minute we walked in we felt welcomed and pampered. We were shown our room options and each room was more darling than the next. The restoration of the hotel takes you right back In time. Everything was clean and fresh. Bath products are delightful. We spent the afternoon reading in the parlor enjoying delightful vintage music and jazz with multiple cups of tea and coffee and warm from the oven cookies. When dinner time rolled around Debra said we could have our evening meal in there as well—wonderful Oregon wine and beer and a sumptuous charcuterie plate. We felt well taken care of and completely restored. A good night’s sleep and fabulous cooked breakfast completed our stay. I already want to go back to the Balch. It was a dream!

I appreciated the attention to detail both of the services offered and the graceful restoration of the hotel. Food staff were exceptional in making sure our every need was met. Due to the lovely restoration, I really felt like I stepped back in time and enjoyed immersing myself in the history. When we arrived, we asked if we could get a bigger room. Staff was very accommodating and the room was just perfect. I felt safe with the Covid protocols and appreciated that the rooms got a chance to 'breathe' for a night before new guests arrived.

We loved this place. The view of Mt Hood from our window overlooking pasture land was stunning. The food was delicious, staff friendly and helpful, and everything was just so. Place was clean as a whistle with careful consideration of Covid precautions. One night we were there we were the only guests, the staff locked up and all went home, and we were the only people in the place for the night! We just propped the door open so we could get back in after taking an evening walk around town and watching part of a high school boys baseball game at the park. We spent two days touring around central Oregon, hiked around White Falls, and then lounged in the shady yard with cold beer afterwards. We will be back.

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room had a beautiful view of Mt. Hood, the staff was helpful and we really liked the two dinners we had at the restaurant. The cherry cobbler tasted very fresh. The outdoor area is well manicured which creates a pleasant atmosphere to have a meal in. A great place for a getaway. We felt very safe given the procedures everyone was following. We had a great day trip from the Balch Hotel. White River Falls state park, lunch outside on the banks of the Deschutes in Maupin and wandering around the old and new Sherman County Courthouse in Moro. The whole drive is designated scenic and made for a pleasant day before coming back and having dinner at the hotel.
