The Inn at Haystack Rock arouses a blend of responses, with its central location near the beach and iconic Haystack Rock garnering appreciation from many guests. The charm and cleanliness of the hotel are frequently praised, offering a cozy atmosphere with a nod to attention to detail. However, opinions on value and service are split; some visitors find the hotel overpriced and the service lacking, despite the comfort provided by amenities like kitchenettes. Room sizes and dated decor also draw criticism from guests expecting more for their money.

We stayed in a room at site one I believe (near the lobby), there is another location just down the street, looking at the way the buildings are situated, I think I prefer the site where we stayed over the other, but have no idea how the rooms at that location compare. Overall our stay was great! Nice spacious layout for two (and our dog). We had a table/chair set outside on deck, as well as indoors. The room layout was a small closet area (luggage storage) just inside the door, refrigerator, microwave (no cooktop, but we didn't expect that) it was just fine for our needs, there was a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Now the quirks: there is no bathroom sink, just the sink in the kitchenette, which is not crucial, but preferably I'd prefer to wash my hands and brush my teeth in a sink separate from the one that I wash dishes in, and the sink didn't drain well. There was no bathroom mirror so when trying to apply makeup or do hair you are basically doing that in the kitchen. Not ideal, workable, but not ideal. It'd be easy to affix a mirror in the bathroom. The jacuzzi tub has to be filled so that it goes over the height of the jets to work properly, however the hot water doesn't last long enough to be able to do this, so basically the tub was worthless, that was a big disappointment on a cold and rainy weekend. There is a basic kitchen set up with papertowels supplied, salt/pepper and dishes/utensils for two (the one cutting knife was worthless), coffee pot, delicious Sleepy Monk coffee, powdered creamer (yuk) and sugar. Our porch light was burned out and although we requested a new bulb in a note to housekeeping that didn't happen and for some reason housekeeping didn't leave us coffee when they cleaned our room (in spite of leaving a daily tip). The weather was pretty rainy during our stay and I realize it's February, but we still opted to grill some steaks one night. I am sure the grill is cleaned and tools are available seasonally (we realized we might be the odd people that actually grill all year long) so we had to spend time cleaning the grill and making due with just a fork, but it worked. Appreciate the dog welcome kit: dog towel, waste bags, dog bones, water dish, and frisbee. Due to weather we didn't use the fire pit area, but the grounds are nice and well kept. We felt like a really affordable place for what was provided and would definately stay again in spite of the minor inconveniences.

I found the place clean, enjoyable, peaceful. I had the unit w the kitchen, kitchen part was not friendly, a small under the counter fridge that seemed to be broken, no shelves, door shelves broken. While there was ice in the freezer, inside it seemed warm. Once I put things into it, everything froze. My remote controls for the electronics did not work, it was very nice of the woman at the front desk to stop by and try to get them to work for me, but she could not either. I stayed at that unit for 4 nights, after a couple of days, small bathroom w just the shower, was smelling of mildew. There is a back door to take the dog out but no light out there, and when it is raining there are mud puddles in the dark and no sheltering. So, I paid about $350 a night for it. It was way too much for what it was, but I escaped from the wild fire smoke in Portland, so most places were taken up already. I stayed the fifth night. Could not stay in the same unit because some one else had a reservation, so I moved to the next unit w no kitchen, but a microwave and fridge and coffee pot. This room was $100 less but in great shape w comparison to the previous one: new fridge and other items, much cleaner large bathroom w spa tub, etc... I liked the proximity to the beach, other dog people staying there made my stay w my dog more pleasant. I liked the fountain right outside. People in the office were friendly and helpful. I would want to stay there again but not in that unit w the poor kitchen. Also, I was told there was a microwave there but I could not find it, also there was no toaster, and a very small sink, no dishwasher. There was no paper towels or napkins, etc. etc.

We had a miserable night here. The location is good, the room was nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable, however we could hear our neighbors clearly all night. We could hear their TV as well as their conversations (enough to understand what they were saying at some points). I know the motel can do nothing about guest behavior, however the lack of insulation between rooms really put a damper on our weekend getaway. When we told staff about our experience we received a response of "we can't do anything about that". If you want a great location and don't mind hearing your neighbors this could be a good option for you.

We had a lovely stay at the Inn at Haystack Rock. We stayed at the location down the street from the check-in office. We were a very very short walk to the beach which was amazing. The room was large and nice (B2). The bed was very comfortable, but I wish there was some more comfortable furniture in the living room to lounge in. There was a small couch and chair but they were not very comfortable. Everything in the room seemed pretty updated with the exception of those two pieces.

Also, due to their COVID procedures, housekeeping did not come in the room but did come around daily to change towels/refill coffee.

The location is perfect-- right near the beach and walking distance to the downtown area. But for the price of over $250/night, I would not recommend it. The room was dated with a very small bathroom and did not have air conditioning. I was fortunately here right before the major PNW heatwave, but the room had to have been over 80 degrees when we checked in. We were given a fan, but it was very dusty and my husband and I are both allergic to dust. We politely requested a less dusty fan and were given another fan that was twice as dusty and dirty as the first one! The customer service left quite a bit to be desired. We were told to open the windows of the room, but when you open the very small bathroom window, there is no privacy because there is a street right out the window where people are parking and walking to the beach. You can't shower or use the bathroom with that window open so that's really not a feasible solution. This room definitely needs to be updated with air conditioning! The pillows were also very old and flat and need to be replaced. I would stay elsewhere when visiting Cannon Beach again.

Tl;tr: the room I was given in no way matched the rest of the rooms shown on the site, or the one I specifically booked.

I was hoping for a nice anniversary weekend. I booked the inn at haystack rock on the expectation of white walled, hardwood, open, cute little bungalow style unit based on photos on their site.

We were placed in a old, shag carpet suite that felt more like a collection of hallways. The front of the suite faced the street and the back (bedroom) abutted right up against a fire pit which had people partying there until late, all with no sound insulation. I can't overstate how close it was, or how freely sound passed through the walls: when I went to close the bedroom window my face was inches away from another guests head, peering down in his bald spot as his wife stared at me from the other side of the fire.

It felt like camping in tents with strangers - and not in a good way.

In the end it felt like a giant gross bait and switch. The room I was given was *nothing* like advertised. After talking with the front desk she said that she felt bad for us, understands our situation, but can't really help. I ended up walking out on our 2-night booking after an hour.

I paid well over $300/night for a tacky motel equivalent I would feel cheated paying $100/ night for.

Maybe not all of the rooms are like this. But my recommendation to the inn is to never rent out room h8 at all.

So my wife and I decided to head for the coast for New Years. We purchased through Groupon a suite at this inn. When first walking into the place we were blown away. It had a full kitchen and dining area, a small living room with a gas fireplace. It just got better when we walked into a very large bathroom with a shower and a jacuzzi tub. The sleeping accommodations were either a pull down murphy bed in the living room or a nice separate bedroom with a queen sized bed. We were thrilled, but that came to a stop soon after we got settled. This was not a cheap room and even if it was I would have expected more.
I'm just going to make a list since it is pretty long. 5 stars to the room, 2 stars for the rest.
1. There was hair and sand with what looked like cleaning agent all around the faucet and counter in the bathroom.
2. There was not enough hot water to fill the jacuzzi tub for use. Ended up using water I heated on the stove.
3. Filled the tub and noticed black floating particles and hair. We had to drain the tub and use dish soap to clean the tub before we could get in it.
4. The tile on the tub had grout missing from a spot that came out from the front. My wife scratched her leg getting in.
5. Couldn't use the light above the fireplace because it didn't work.
6. We had to scrub the metal dining table off before eating due to it not being properly cleaned.
7. We had to keep turning off the heater because it kept running even when turned down to its lowest setting.
And last but not least.
8. The alarm clock was set for 6am and went off. We didn't set it and were none to happy when we were woke up at 6am on New Years.

What can I say? I was hoping at first glance to come again to this awesome place for my birthday celebration. I am beyond disappointed. I expect cleanliness no matter what room I stay in. You shouldn't have to clean the place so you can use it and enjoy it.

Honestly, I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I landed on 3 stars because the customer service at the office was not in line with the prices they charge. We expected a higher level of customer service especially because we paid well over $500 per night. We liked the 1 bedroom apartment. It was newly remodeled and super clean. The only downside was the shower - too small and the sprayer could not be adjusted down so it sprayed on the wall. The hot tub in the bathroom was wonderful however, the hot water ran out before the tub was full enough to turn the jets on. A very nice man came by everyday to ask us if we would like clean towels. Our room was very close to the beach and a nice walk to downtown - great location. I was surprised the hotel does not offer beach towels. However, they did give us beach chairs and blankets. I suggest offering the chairs and blankets to the guests when they check in to avoid multiple trips to the office. If you improve the customer service and replace the shower nozzles, you may have a 4 or 5 star resort. Or charge less (like $300/night) and keep things as they are. We won't stay here again unless the price comes down significantly or they make the necessary improvements.

It’s not acceptable that you can’t upgrade or change rooms easily at this hotel if you book through Booking.com. It took me a solid hour on hold with Booking.com, while my kids had to sit in a car in the parking lot of the hotel, to get my room changed because Booking was confusing and I accidentally booked a different room than the one I intended to. Booking.com also double charged me and I spent a total of two hours on the phone with them trying to resolve all issues and eventually hung up when they put me on hold indefinitely for the purpose of getting rid of me. The hotel also just mysteriously couldn’t find the updated booking once it was made and it took 30 minutes for that to be fixed. So definitely don’t use booking.com if you choose to stay here and be aware front desk staff are unable to do any tasks except hand you keys. Any problems and they will have zero problem-solving skills, will struggle to use their own computer system, you will have to wait while they call the owner and they will have no ability or power to fix anything quickly or on their own. All for a simple $30 room upgrade on a Monday when the hotel wasn’t busy. Don’t bother asking for early check-in either because they can’t make that happen more than 30 minutes early and check-in isn’t until 4pm and then you have to be out by 11 the next day.

We also had many other problems with the hotel itself. We have stayed at this hotel for years and never had problems like this before it changed owners. Both rooms smelled bad and needed to be aired out and the roll out bed was covered in a filthy sheet I had to change myself, as if a dog had slept in it and housekeeping didn’t bother to check or to change it. The deadbolt on room 17 that we ended up in does not work either. Last time we came the heat didn’t work in our room and there was a sewer smell and they were full and couldn’t give us a different room. The time before that we had to have our room changed also because of a horrible wet dirty dog smell. New ownership is just doing a terrible job of running this place. The design updates mean nothing if they can’t keep the place clean, safe, smelling fresh and easy to stay at. Especially with beds that uncomfortable. Main bed was only moderately uncomfortable but my son was miserable on the roll out couch which doesn’t have a mattress at all just some thin cushioning. We used to love this place for the affordability of the rooms with the huge spa tubs, full kitchens and one bedroom suites so we were willing to overlook the beds, extremely outdated TVs, scratched DVDs that don’t work and lack of good tv channels, but it’s not worth it anymore for all the hassle, discomfort and much higher prices. We will be staying someplace else from now on.

I think this place is overpriced for what you get. The location is great but the walls are super thin and I was unable to fall asleep without a white noise machine on to drown out our neighbors who felt like they were in the same room. For $375 per night the place is very dated. At least the room by the office where we stayed is. It looks like it used to be part of the original office space but was converted to another room with shoddy work. My advice... you can find much nicer air bnbs or hotels for a similar price if not cheaper.
