We love this centrally located beach/town location. The rooms are clean and bright; the desk and maintenance staff are helpful and friendly. They really go the extra mile here to make your stay comfortable.

I needed to get away to read, write, and reflect. I splurged for a top floor room with a front and side ocean view and a balcony from which I could see the beach and ocean together. The staff of the Waves was wonderful: from Julie who booked my reservation and picked out my perfect room, to Lisa who greeted me contactlessly at check-in to Carlos the handyman for everything! I am very short and couldn't reach dishes in the well stocked kitchen so he brought me a step stool for my 3 day stay. Even though I saw a family with a crying baby enter the room next to me, I did not hear any sound from their room. The ocean and the walls and the structure provide each guest with peace and quiet. There is a complimentary parking lot in which to leave your vehicle as the location of the Waves is in the heart of Cannon Beach and you can walk to your destinations. I can't wait to be waved in again at the Waves!

We stayed at The Waves for 3 nights for a mini babymoon and it was wonderful! You can’t beat the location; just a short distance to the sandy beautiful beach and local shops and restaurants, including Insomnia Coffee across the street! The bed was comfy, and the room had a balcony with partial ocean view. We felt really safe with covid, everyone was wearing masks around town, and it was so convenient to walk back to your own room to use the restroom. We would definitely stay here again!

The unit I rented was CLEAN. The window sills, baseboards, bathroom fan and tub and sinks all super clean. We rented a 1st floor unit (no elevators, easier for my mom). It was a fair price considering a holiday weekend and Cannon Beach is very popular. You will hear people above you and thin walls. Ear plugs if light sleeper. Bedding is clean and good condition. Bed felt firm. Kitchen had coffee maker(filter and coffee in cupboard)pots, pans, paper towels, dish towels, soap, and fridge/freezer (medium size). Bathroom had soaps, shower cap,and lotion. I did not notice if it had hairdryer since I did not need one.
The blinds were easy to slide it upward to keep room darker. Bottom line for me is that it is clean, and it was simple, and nice staff. There is no assigned parking. Mostly street parking (some units appeared to have off street parking). Unfortunately no parking in front of our rental. We had to park down the street.
I would definitely stay again. Honestly probably the cleanest I’ve ever had out of any hotel. No dust on light fixtures or tv. It may not be the Taj Mahal, but it’s clean!

White Heron Lodge is tucked away on the north edge of town, with spectacular views and private beach/riverfront access. The ample bathroom has a large Jacuzzi tub, the kitchen is perfectly supplied with utensils for cooking, a 12-cup real coffee maker, the living areas are very comfortable.

We've been coming to Cannon Beach for many years, but have never stayed at the White Heron. Beautiful place, well maintained inside and out. We could live there! It's much more condo style than a hotel, but it's not a condo.

There are four units in the building. The two upstairs have small balconies, the downstairs units have a small porch area with steps to the grass lawn. Stone steps off the lawn take you to the short beach path where you can build a fire if you choose. We suggest bringing your own firewood, otherwise you'll purchase pine that burns in minutes from the local store.

We'd go back in a heartbeat!

We chose this place based on reviews on at another travel site.

Liked · There was a kitchen in the room, and the living room bed was a murphy bed and not a pull-out couch. Though it was much farther away than advertised, the beach access was only one flight of stairs, and there were two beach entrances that were each a block away from the room. Honestly, that's about it. The room was extremely underwhelming.

Disliked · the bed in the bedroom was something called a hotel king that measured 70 by 80, not the advertised full king. We would not have booked the room if we had known this, as it was not large enough, and not as promised. The mattress was also extremely saggy, and we spend both nights fighting to stay out of the middle of the bed. It was like a bad hammock. Additionally, the photos showed beachfront rooms, whereas our room was across the street and behind another row of buildings from the beach, and only had a slight diagonal view of the ocean.

I could keep writing negatives, such as the fact that the paint was damaged on several walls, or that the toiled was in an awkward cubby that made it inaccessible. The gas fireplace had a loud repetitive click when it was on, and the bedroom dresser had a door that couldn't be opened fully because the hinged door was stuck.

Response from Greg Swedenborg, Owner at The Waves
Responded Jan 19, 2021
Kate, Recall you well, had several conversations with your husband about the various king size mattress options that exist in the marketplace - California, Standard/Eastern, Spit and Hospitality. We do have a few rooms with California Kings but most are Hospitality Kings which are an industry standard just a couple inches longer than wide. Not sure where we promise a specific size as you referenced. Sorry if you were confused by the photo collage that booking.com and other 3rd party travel sights put up, our property consists of 14 different buildings and 27 room types so many are Ocean Front and some are Ocean View. You selected our Ocean View Southwind building not one of our Ocean Front buildings, sorry if this wasn't clear but certainly was 'not as advertised'. We do have several rooms with extra large bathrooms if you prefer, these suites having a separate double sink vanity separate from the shower and toilet area is usually something guests leave positive comments about. Please give us a call next time if you would like any specifics about the room the various room options. Greg Swedenborg Owner, The Waves Cannon Beach

superb visit at the waves cannon beach! we had originally planned to stay one night and ended up staying 3, would have been more if work didn’t get in the way. Each night we stayed we promptly phoned the front desk asking for another night, to which they accommodated us quickly and with ease. We had to switch rooms each night because the one we were in had been booked already. They allowed us to stay in the current room beyond checkout while they got the new room ready for us. Each room we stayed in was beyond adequately stocked with all the necessities; blankets, towels, pillows, toiletries, kitchen utensils etc. we even had an unfortunate incident while attempting to take a photo out the window we dropped our phone and couldn’t get to it! we had to make the embarrassing phone call to the front desk to ask for assistance which they didn’t have to give bring it was our mistake but Mary & Paula rushed to our rescue and were out there with us with keys, flashlights, communication and the most positive attitudes! turned out we didn’t need to be embarrassed at all; they made us feel like it was all okay and even gave us the nickname “trouble” when they saw us again for one of our room switches. the waves is in a beautiful location and offers gorgeous views, a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and so much more. we cannot wait to go back to cannon beach and we will not be staying anywhere other than The Waves!

Check in was the fastest of all the places we visited. The room was clean and roomy. The parking was literally right outside the front door, like a driveway. The beach was a 20 second walk up the street and there were only about 15 steps down to the beach. Since the street dead-ends, there was practically no traffic and no noise. There are several shops and eateries within a very short walking distance, no more that 5 minutes at a leisurely tourist pace. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with dishes and everything. The shower was the best of all five places we stayed, plenty of hot water, good pressure and a good shower head. This was also the most expensive property we visited as well, but at peak season it was to be expected. We would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

My husband and I stayed in the La Colina ocean view first floor room at The Waves for his birthday in late August, and it was just perfect. We were only steps away from the beach and it also had a nice front porch with chairs. The hotel has guest parking behind it and on the streets in front. You can walk to all the shops and restaurants from the hotel as well, which was very nice. One note - they do not have AC in the rooms, but it was cooler when we went, so we never needed it. They do provide fans if you need them. The room also had a nice kitchen area as well. Housecleaning will leave you towels and other necessities if you run low, but due to Covid, they are not cleaning the rooms daily. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I just returned from 3 nights at the Waves. This is not my first time and certainly not my last. I love sitting on the chair by the window and just look at the ocean. I appreciate that the rooms are situated so that each room has a lot of privacy and the natural light that comes in through all of the skylights is welcome during the drearier days and wakes me up refreshed when the sun shines through. The location in the heart of Cannon Beach is fabulous for walking to the many stores and restaurants.

I appreciate the 2-burner stove, microwave and fridge. I can save money by making some eggs and bacon for breakfast and upgrade to oceanfront...see what I mean!?

The fireplace makes a perfect cozy ambiance for my hallmark christmas movie binge and peach cider.

The bed is soft, yet supportive. You want to stay in it all day if the beach below wasn't beckoning.

From the PDX airport you can take public transit to 1 block from our hotel. The bus is The Point bus and details are on their website which is oregon-point. We have had Uber and Lyft drivers deliver guests from Portland before but it is a long drive and the ride sharing services do not operate in our area so return visits can be difficult.

Are the SW King Studios on the ground floor?
Answer from GGS
Cannon Beach, Oregon17 contributions4 helpful votes
There are 4 Southwind King Studios. 2 of them are ground floor and 2 of them are 2nd floor. It is a 2 story building. On our website the picture will be of the exact room you select. So if the photo has a raised ceiling it is a 2nd floor room, you can also tell by the deck vs. balcony photo. On 3rd party website (Expedia, Orbitz , etc.) rooms are just assigned at random by what works best. You do not get an up or down choice. If you require 'no stairs' and want a 1st foor room or if you prefer a 2nd floor room it is best to call us and at a minimum make the request. If available we will honor the request, if not we will let you know. Regards, Greg Swedenborg The Waves Cannon Beach

The room you are describing is our Flagship Junior Suite, they are similar to our Flagship Studios but have a little larger floor plan where we are able to include the twin bed to accommodate 2 beds or 3 guests. The twin beds we use are standard twin size which is 39" wide and 75" in length.
