McMenamins is such a great place to stay with its fun decor, numerous restaurants (with patios), cozy unique rooms and amazing staff. It is also in walking distance of all the main attractions in Bend: the river and breweries.
Stayed here the last night of a long road trip. Staff were excellent and appeared to enjoy being there. The building was originally a catholic school and they did an excellent job of maintaining the look of the buildings. There are several old photos and an impressive amount of artwork. They have a couple of pubs on the grounds that serve beer wine and pub food along with one that serves breakfast. They also have a large mosaic soaking pool. This place is only slightly more expensive then other hotels in the area but provides enjoyable experience in addition to a good nights rest.
Great place. We had no issues. Pillows were kinda flat - asked for a couple more. No problem. We would definitely go back. While Bend, itself, seemed overly "trendy", and the local hiking areas were packed, we really found respite back at the hotel. We got the king room - which was great. I wish it would have had a fridge and microwave - but we didn't ask. Food and drink were abundant. Though, the menu is "standard" McMenamins. Staff were awesome and no issues with other guests. Had one "karen" seated near us, but the waitress was impressively gracious. Movie (Goonies) was cool. And, the soaking pool was awesome. Next time, we'll bring our own pillows. And, don't forget the Tums. Did I mention, the food and beverage were great? Hard not to overdo it.
This is our favorite breakfast spot when in Bend. Actually, our only breakfast spot. We almost always have the same things, Schoolhouse a fast and 1/2 order of Eggs Benedict (they make their own Hollandaise, yum). We decided to try them out for dinner on this trip. The Elk burger and pub salad were excellent choices. Both large enough to share and accompanied by three delicious beers, Hop Delirium NE Hazy, Crisp Darkness Lager and 5th Floor IPA. The eclectic decor, great service, and relaxed ambiance will keep this a favorite pick for us in one of our favorite places to visit. Take the time and check out one of the McMenimans family of brewery/hotels. One of these days we will actually book a couple of nights and check out all the amenities.
Old St. Francis was a very nice place to stay and reasonably affordable given the area and its popularity. Rooms were very quiet, and no drama from other guests. The soaking pool is just amazing. Loved the Broom Closet bar :)
