Hootie Creek used to be a great B & B. It is now just an old hotel. Manager left the property for hours and left his 2 dogs barking constantly for hours. Paid $140 to listen to 2 dogs barking! Stayed here several times in the past. We will not return to this place. Has great history but owner must not care about his paying guests.
Over Thanksgiving my boyfriend and I decided to do the Talimena Scenic Drive from Talhina, OK to Mena, AR, so the Hootie Creek Lodge was the perfect location to stay at to start our drive! Not only was the owner helpful, accommodating, and hospitable, but he was also informative and passionate about the history and significance of this lovely building and town. Due to the small amount of rooms and guests, we felt very safe and comfortable traveling during a global pandemic. Additionally, the lodge was very clean and safe. We had keys to our room as well as the front door, so we could lock and unlock upon entry. The police station is also right across the street! The kitchen, lounge, living room, patio, and deck were all available for 24/7 use. We almost felt like we had the place to ourselves! There were even complimentary snacks and drinks to enjoy. Although there isn’t much to do in Talihina, we still found some great small businesses, both merchandise and food, to support and enjoy. There is even a coffee shop right across the street! If you need a special /intimate getaway- we totally recommend the Hootie Creek Lodge!…
Owner was very accommodating. Great history to the building which adds to its charm. Owner gives a tour and history. Working to make his place a great place to stay. Rooms were nice and clean. Felt very safe with keys to the room and the outside door. Could have had more trash cans in the room and lamps and a night stand on both sides of the beds. Drinks and snacks were complimentary. Beer and wine were on the honor system. Great balcony to watch the sunset. Cool patio area. Two different sitting areas to visit with others.
I cannot say enough about our experience here. We were given a tour of the entire hotel from finished remodeling to rooms still yet to be done. The pride the owners had in this cozy, warm, inviting place was so refreshing. They care about the history of the hotel and the town of Talihina. This is a guesthouse and as such guests have access to refrigerators to store food...as well as a stove to cook on if desired. Those with special diets such as vegan or gluten free will appreciate this I'm sure. There is stocked wine, beer, even spirits to buy on an HONOR system. Upstairs is a stocked refrigerator with juices and waters and another with pop. Also a coffee station. On both levels there are snacks available. Other than alcohol all is free. Really just so much I could say on how well done this hotel experience was. I hope you will try them too.…
This was an awesome place to stay for my wife and I on our anniversary getaway. They no longer provide breakfast but do offer a variety of complimentary items such as coffee, water and snacks. The manner in which the guesthouse was restored/ preserved really made us feel as though it was from another time. The owner gives you plenty of space and is never overbearing. Not to mention you have full access to pretty much the entire place. I will say that I did not care for the firm pillows but I have no doubt that, if I’d have asked, the owner would’ve have done his very best to accommodate. The town itself is a little rundown as many old rural towns are but the surrounding area is beautiful. We’d highly recommend the Scenic Byway and not so distant Robbers Cave state Park.
