Not huge but just big enough to make you feel like you've been out in nature. Ranger office was TINY and signs to social distance were ignored. Ranger at the desk not wearing mask & only a few feet all the way around for distance. Another person came in not wearing a mask and just stood in the doorway so was difficult to get by & still feel safe. We didn't get good information about the trails & had to go back for clearer instructions. Poor trail markings. A simple sign = helpful for hikers find their way. There was some debris around in the woods (cups, etc.) & a dirty diaper rolled up at the Waterfalls trail left by the water's edge. The cabins looked very nice and well spaced apart. Spaces available for RV's and tents in another area. The lake was very pretty but the trail, was not marked . Signs would be helpful! The trees were just showing a hint of color change, although I wouldn't expect the many oaks there to be brightly colored, more a brownish yellow. The restroom facilities at the ranger office were closed. Had to go down by the pool area to find an open restroom. The doors did not close or lock to the stall. However, it was pretty clean and the water in the sink was actually hot. Picnic tables down at the pool area as well as a playground for kids. All in all a nice little getaway for the day but would love to see some tiny improvements for the trail markings (and more waste cans!) as well as a better "map" given to visitors. We found the map very confusing.…
Great park, the sites are a little tight for larger RV'ers to get into. Lots of shade. Clean bathrooms. Loved seeing the deer in the park. The showers has hot water, they need a bench or something in the dry area to place your personal items.
This park only has 30 RV spots, so need to reserve in advance. It was partly built by the WPA so is quaint but natural and nice. It has rolling hills, so fun to ride bikes. It has a swimming pool, a lake, so really has it all.
Like I said, I needed out of the house. A friend said Osage Hills is fun with some easy hikes for kids. Sounded good enough for me. I honestly didn't expect much way up there by Kansas. Maybe some prairie and a mesa or two. What I found was rushing rapids and loud water falls. My kids went up and down the cliffs exploring small caves and iceflows. I will defiantly be back in Spring to fish for sand bass and small mouth. I will probably rent a cabin. Those looked cozy. Cool place and a fun 2 hours.
I was pleasantly surprised with the amenities available at this park. Cabins, RV, Large Tent Suites, Tent Sites, Showers, Pool, Playground, Boat Rentals, Fishing, and so much more. It’s a really nice place with friendly staff, especially Ranger Kyle, who helped with information and recommendations. There is some great wildlife in the park and nearby is the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve with great opportunities for seeing buffalo. This park isn’t busy either, so it’s easy to relax and enjoy it.
Not a big park but so well maintained! We drove through and didn't see another soul. We especially enjoyed the little lake and the beauty surrounding it. Looks like a great place to go and stay to get away for a long weekend. The cabins appear to be very nice and some hiking areas. It has to be very pretty in the spring and summer.
We rented a cabin for two nights. The cabins are rustic and comfortable. All have central heat and air. There are several moderate trails. The sights along the trails are beautiful. The park is well maintained by very helpful rangers. We will definitely return.
We drove through this park in the first part of November. The park is very well maintained and has cabins for rent and a play area for kids. This Park would make a good place for a weekend getaway or just a pleasant afternoon Drive.
This is a park built "back in the day" and it has been maintained to perfection. Lots to do for families. Hiking, creek, playgrounds, pool, etc. Friendly Park Rangers and staff. Each campsite has a fire pit and a grill. All the grand kids enjoyed the two playgrounds. It also has cabins but we have never stayed in one.
My wife and I stayed here nice place friendly people. Close to the pioneer woman merc. Went for a hike. Would stay here again if we are in the area. Cabins are furnished nicely with kitchen stuff etc.
