My family needed a little getaway and outdoor time for my son‘s birthday. We didn’t want to travel too far because of Coronavirus concerns but we wanted someplace that was different. So, we chose Candlewyck resort again. We had stayed here a year ago in The Big House for a family reunion. This time there were just four of us so we needed a smaller house. We stayed in the Magnolia house, which was a two bedroom and two bathroom. It also had a sleeper sofa. It was perfect for us because each bedroom had a bathroom, the kitchen was perfect size for cooking our meals. It had all of the kitchen utensils and cookware needed to prepare our meals.
During our stay, the air-conditioning unit broke and the resort was fully booked so they were unable to move us. They had the company put Freon in to help us make it through the night and the next day when many other guests had left they opened the townhouse/duplex next to us and allowed us access to the cooler rooms.

They worked very hard to ensure that we were comfortable and informed. The staff and management were fantastic! They were so hard working. They ensured that you had everything you needed while you were staying there. I even called for dishwasher detergent and it was there within a matter of minutes.

The lady in the office was very pleasant and helpful with the check-in process. I pointed out a small price difference of what was on the website and what I was charged for the cabin per night. The lady apologized for the mishap from the website and returned the difference right away. We stayed three nights right at Christmas. The cabin was extremely clean and felt very welcoming. In the cabin we stayed in, it had a full kitchen, they supplied the bedding, towels, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, dish washing soap, dishes, hair dryer and trash bags. I don't think there was an iron. There is tile in some of the areas which was a little cold on the feet (bring socks) but that was no biggie. They offer a wifi password but for some reason it didn't work for us but was ok because our cell phones (AT&T and Sprint) had service. One suggestion would be to bring your own 409 if you plan on making a mess with cooking. The hot tub was heated and ready for use. We would stay here again for sure and recommend it to others.

Stayed 3 nights in a king suite with friends staying in one next to it. The cleaning crews and dock hands were all very friendly and helpful. The pool and docks were very clean. The only thing that kept us from giving 5 stars was the following: the website could be more descriptive on the amenities in each cabin. There is a charcoal grill for each unit but no grill tools; that should be on the website that people should bring their own. Also, would be helpful to know if/what kitchen supplies in each unit if any. Did not see anything about the free breakfast on Sat/Sun which would have been nice, but we brought all our own food! Also, the units could use more shelves/hooks in BR for towels, clothes etc. Would be lovely if there was a swimming dock to use besides just the narrow dock. Otherwise, had a great time and would recommend it.

We enjoyed our stay in one of the townhouse with the hot tub. It was clean and had a pool close by and the lake very close as well. Super easy walk down to the water. We could rent kayaks or boats on location. Also fire pit near the office with playground, volleyball, tetherball, and basketball. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Stayed two nights in a hotel room recently. This property has just a few units. It has hotel rooms, cabins, condos, and large private homes. Swimming pool, firepit circle, tether ball, horseshoes for outside play. They have boat slips if you need one and can get you a rental boat if you like. The room was clean, had a kind of mini-kitchen with microwave, small frig, coffee pot, a few dishes. I would suggest they replace the carpet in the room we were in but I really didn't have a problem with it - just had some stains but I could see they had tried to scrub them out. Some units have their own hottubs and some have fireplaces. I think all units had a balcony or deck. It was peaceful and a great place to appreciate Fall. Don't expect a fancy place but it's not a chain and I can tell the owners care about it.

Candlewyck was awesome again this year! The cabins were clean, the service by the staff was great and everyone was very friendly. We rented a pontoon boat right on the property which was very convenient and not too expensive. Our only disappointment is that we missed the weekend events since we came through the week this year. It was nice to chat with other renters and just have a really family friendly great experience. We will return next year!

One word - OUTSTANDING! The facilities were excellent. The service was fantastic. The staff was exceptional. My family has rented several properties at Grand Lake from the South end to the North end of the lake. This resort ranks as the best value of all the resorts that we have stayed. When you combine facility, service, amenities, staff and price into the equation there is not a better value at Grand Lake. Period.

I recently stayed at this beautiful resort and had an overall fabulous experience. We stayed in Residence 3, Cottonwood, and a hotel room, and each accommodation offered great lakeside access and stunning views. The resort itself is exceptionally well-maintained, with clean swimming pools and delicious breakfast options that we thoroughly enjoyed each morning.

The staff truly made our stay remarkable; they were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. While the beds were just okay and we did encounter a minor issue with the air conditioner freezing up, these were minor inconveniences in an otherwise fantastic stay.

This resort is a gem, and we will definitely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a beautiful and relaxing getaway.

The website offers very minimal information, which I have seen others mention as well. Upon arriving and checking in, we did notice that area around the resort was absolutely beautiful. Upon arriving at our room/suite, we were unable to enter it due to being given an incorrect door code, so we had to call and get the proper one. The photos of the room we booked did not match the room we stayed in at all. The room was decent, but not really worth the price. The linens had holes and rips throughout them, and a few of the towels had what appeared to be blood or makeup stains on them. There was a note we found stating that the hot tub had been sanitized and sealed for our protection prior to our arrival, and to use the scissors/snippers provided to cut the seal for the hot tub if we chose to use it. Well, we of course did want to use the hot tub during our stay, so later that evening we went to the hot tub. When we walked over to the hot tub, we immediately noticed it was not sealed at all. The lid came right off. There was no seal of any kind holding the lid down. After removing the lid, we immediately noticed a foul smell coming from the hot tub. The water seemed stagnant, and there were leaves and dirt sitting in the bottom of the hot tub. Aside from the room and the hot tub, it was also extremely difficult to communicate with staff or get any help if you needed it. Their office is closed Monday and Tuesday, so you'll probably have difficulty getting any help on those days as well. The best part of the stay was truthfully just the view of the lake and nature around us, and the wildlife. Aside from those things, we would not recommend booking a stay, nor do we intend on returning.

I booked 2 nights memorial weekend and had my grandkids there on Sunday to swim and the pool was closed. It wasn’t COVID related they just didn’t have the water right to swim. When I booked I asked specifically if the pool was open and I was told it was. Disappointed! It would have been a nice place but not much to do with a 2 & 4 year old with the pool closed. They did have a swing set and slide to play on. The room was very spacious and had a balcony that we enjoyed. We were in #4 hotel room. This was convenient to my daughter house who lives in Grove. The beds were comfy. The cabins are fairly crowded together but it had a nice camp feel to it. They have a fire built at night in a common area of the property. Just wish the pool had been open! I hated disappointing my grandkids!

Response from CandlewyckCoveResort, Manager at Candlewyck Cove Resort
Responded Jun 12, 2020
We are so very sorry that you were disappointed with the pool situation. When you booked the pool was in fact open. From time to time the pool chemicals become unbalanced and we have to shut the pool down until we can get them back to normal levels. Unfortunately that is what happened when you were here. We would never want to put our guests in danger if the water is not safe to swim in. As soon as we were sure that the levels were back to normal we did open the pool. Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. We did everything we could to keep all of our guests safe.
