Uzerche isn't known as 'the pearl of the Limousin' for nothing. It’s cluster of ancient, turreted buildings, clambering up towards the steeple of its hilltop church, creates one of the most scenic townscapes in all of France, while the languid pace of the river Vézère imbues a sense of calm and serenity across the entire settlement. Slithering around the town in a tight loop, it’s as if the river has squeezed the old centre upwards, the grey-stone buildings crowning the surrounding valley with their spikey rooftops and rows of classical arches. Were you to climb the church tower and peer from the narrow windows, it would be a struggle to pick out the neighbouring village of Condat sur Ganaveix. Though just six kilometers away, the flanks of trees and numerous shallow valleys disguise it among the countryside, but it’s on the edge of the village, nestled among such lush surroundings, that Camping Moulin de la Geneste is found. Spread across 15 acres but with only around 20 camping pitches, Moulin de la Geneste is a country campsite as naturally suited to its surroundings as the birds in the trees and the trout in the river. Much of the site is made up of unmanaged pockets of woodland and long grasses, left to nature and is a maze of paths, secluded areas and woodland to explore and lose yourself in. The site is a haven for wildlife. From the small beautifully coloured dragonfly to wild deer, all watched by the buzzards, owls, herons and kingfishers which fly overhead. Our three specific camping areas provide space (upto 160sqm) where tents and caravans can be pitched or motorhomes parked up for the night. Or maybe you would prefer one of our glamping units... chalets, bell tents, mobile home or our romantic Wedgewood Wagon. The attitude is pretty relaxed. Events are suitably spontaneous and homemade – be it floating candles on the lake, a treasure hunt, story telling in the fairy garden or feeding and brushing ponies or goats – but there are plenty of happy constants to keep you busy through the day. Boules and basketball courts entertain in the warm summer evenings, while managed footpaths lead you through the trees by day, to quiet picnic areas and streams perfect for kids to dabble and splash about during the midday heat. The trout river and our lake (well stocked with fish... carp, trout and tench) and has small rowing boats and canoes for use. Kids will love the positive menagerie of animals, including ponies, goats, pigs, chickens and the owner's three buoyant springer spaniels. There's a boules pitch, table tennis, basketball net, small football area, badminton, outdoor chess tables, an adventure playground and donkey hire/trekking. There is also a fantastic 'fairy garden' with a wishing well, chimes, tree swing and hidden fairies for children to find! When you do head elsewhere, though, there is plenty to do. Uzerche itself has a wealth of important heritage – the central abbey is a sign of its pinnacle of influence during the 1100s and the surrounding fort-shaped buildings that were a style of the time have led to the French saying “He who owns a house in Uzerche has a castle in the Limousin”. It’s not a place of fast-paced, fist-pumping modern life, of course, (though join the local canoe outfitters and you’ll certainly find some speed on the downstream rapids) but for a little casual exploration there are few better spots – it’s as if the town were tailor made for aimless ambling. When you slide your rook across the chessboard back at Camping Moulin you can’t help but feel the timelessness of the whole area: The beautiful Limousin, its mature woodlands and ancient settlements, and the age-old beauty of camping out beneath the stars. “Beware”, their website warns, “You may find yourself staying longer than you planned”. It’s not a counsel to be taken lightly.

This was our first stop on our family camping holiday in France and it was our favourite place by far! Pitches are spacious and there's plenty of room for the kids to roam. Ours loved running off by themselves to visit the animals or just run about in the woods. They also loved paddling in the stream and using the free kayaks on their little lake. It was so relaxing that we didn't bother to leave the campsite - though there's plenty to see in the area too.

Not much to add on other reviews but quiet, relaxing, kind and helpful hosts. The woods are extensive alongside the animals, river and lake. We had one day just exploring the campsite and enjoying the swings, zip line and boats. Bread delivered daily, can hire a pizza oven and curry night was fun. Loved it. Strong recommend.

We have just left after a fantastic stay at camping Moulin de la Geneste, we were booked for 5 nights but it was so great that we stayed for a week! Lovely friendly owners, always happy to help. Kids enjoyed feeding the animals and playing in the woods. Lake and boats to use as well as a river great for paddling. Eveything was easy and relaxed. We loved the curry night! Beautiful area, great swimming lakes nearby. Our new favourite campsite, we will definitely be back!

After arriving at the site last week June 17th for 4 day's site seemed very quiet no vans about .Only to be greeted by a gentleman that told us the site had only just opened. After meeting the owners who couldn't do enough for us and making our stay very welcoming we will definitely return. Big site lovely big pitches. Uzerche is a must to visit very handy for shopping. Thank you both again for our lovely stay .Have a lovely summer with friends and family xx

Having had such a good time last year we decided to return this year and have had yet another amazing week with Sharron and Steve. This year we were in a bell tent (our first time glamping) and, despite a bit of rain, had a fabulous time. The campsite has lots of space to play, relax, and explore (including farm animals to feed, a lake to fish in, a river to paddle in) and the reception area at the entrance is a great place to relax and have a drink in the evening. This is one of our favourite places and the children love it too (and can run free!). Everyone is super friendly and there's a lovely mix of nationalities and languages in site! We plan to visit again next year!!

We stayed with Sharon and her family in August 2020 in the middle of the pandemic and it was the perfect medicine to forget about everything that was going on in the world. The campsite was so beautiful and eco friendly with hosts that made us feel like we were visiting friends. Nothing was too much for them even tumble drying our underwear late at night!! (We’d arrived at the site after 5 days of wild camping!) Our children roamed wild and free which isn’t something that comes easily to me but it felt so safe, they only came back for left overs for the pigs! We asked our 5 year old daughter what was her favourite bit of the campsite and she said ‘Sharon’ so much so that there was many tears when we had to drive away. From the warm bread delivery every morning (to your pitch) to walking goats on a lead to the day we built a raft To float candles on the lake it was hands down the most wonderful campsite we’ve ever experienced. The time we spent Together as a busy military family was beyond priceless for us and we cannot wait to go back at the first opportunity. If you do one thing today- book this site- you won’t regret it!

We stayed in the wagon. Set in its own area of the wood, beautifully Hand crafted with mini fridge and they have put in an outside camp kitchen area which you have to yourself. Sharon and Steve really friendly. They have a beautiful site...i love wild swimming so delighted to discover the river and best of all the site has a lake with sandy base...there are boats. Its really peaceful. My partner and i had the lake to ourselves... there is a woodland walk, mini cascade ..if you love being close to nature, close to lots of beautiful countryside...peaceful..great.

We found this campsite by chance and booked for five days. We wish we had booked for longer! It's in the perfect location, close to Uzerche (great for canoeing and kayaking!) and in beautiful countryside. But there is so much to do on site whether you stay in your own tent, in the bell tents, in the Wedgewood hut, or the cabins (we stayed in a cabin!). From fishing or swimming in the lake, exploring the river and woodland, feeding the farm animals, walking the dogs, badminton, boules (and more!), or having a coffee and waffle outside reception, it's the perfect place to unwind, make new friends (from all over), and let the children go 'free range'. Sharron and Steve and Harvey make everyone welcome and we can't wait to come back next year!

We have just stayed at this lovely campsite for 4 nights and our only disappointment was that we were not staying longer. A beautiful spot with decent sized pitches and lots of land and hidden surprises to explore. The owners are so helpful and friendly they make your stay feel really special. Really relaxed and peaceful site but with plenty to do in the area if you can drag yourself away.
