Didn't read any reviews about this place, if I would have we would have never went there. We stay in Vermillion once a year and have always had very nice stays, But this last one at" Walk in the Water Cottages was so bad I don't want to ask my family to go back to Vermillion again! As one lady stated in an other review it smelled so bad you have to wonder when the last time the place was even cleaned. I thought that when the guy told me this little cottage was $335.00 a night it would be decent, But trust me when I tell you that $150.00 is more than you would want to spend. There are much nicer places down the road Lakeland Lodges is very nice but sold out most of the time .Also Cottages at the waters Edge have very nice and CLEAN houses to stay in and both places are less expensive than this dive . The pool was nice, too bad it doesn't open until you have to check out the next day.10:00 check out belive me you will be out of there before that. Just live and learn ,I hope this helps at least one family to find a different place to stay. We had 6 adults and it cost over $500.00 for one night and this place cant even afford a screen door to let a little bit of the stinch out.I hope they enjoy that one time deal of taking my $$$ cause it is never going to happen again.

We were traveling through Ohio after a weekend in Michigan and wanted to find a quiet place on the water for the night. After a long day of traveling and reading reviews, we almost gave up and booked a night at a Holiday Inn Express on our route but my sister had her heart set on a more unique experience so she called Walk in the Water Cottages. Chris offered us a generous discount on the room (perhaps because it was a Sunday night?) and that clinched it for us. We ended up having one of the most relaxing nights of our vacation. We let Chris know we were on our way and as soon as we arrived, he appeared from one of the cottage entrances to let us know they were just finishing cleaning up our room--an entire group had rented all of the cottages and had just left. We were happy to wait in the chairs overlooking Lake Erie just as the sun was starting to go down. Chris checked us in and he suggested we visit Steak and Lube for dinner, especially if we liked wings. We decided to go and sit down by the lake in the Adirondack chairs and relax as the sun set. He even came down and brought us a menu in case we wanted to have pizza delivered to the cottages rather than go out to eat. Our cottage had two double beds and a kitchenette and bathroom. It wasn't huge, but we didn't really need anything extravagant. It felt homey actually. We did notice a smell, but by the next day it was gone. We thought it might be coming off the lake since we could smell it briefly when we went outside and it certainly didn't ruin our stay there by any means. The next morning we took our time getting ready to leave especially since Chris had generously allowed us to stay until 1 pm! We managed to get in a swim at the pool outside our door and enjoy the beautiful weather. If you don't mind a comfortable, no fuss and personal place to stay along Lake Erie, I definitely recommend Walk in the Water Cottages.

We rented a cottage for a week during the summer. Great pool, beach... but, oh my, this cottage stunk, you know this musty smell of mold? Furniture, carpet were ancient, drab and looked dirty. Even that I could overlook, but the smell, it suffocates you at the doorstep, make you hesitate. But it's paid for, nowhere to go and there is the beach and the pool. After a while inside the cottage, you almost get used to it, but if you go out for a minute, then it's all over again. The most important thing: don't get your things out of the suitcase and keep it closed. I got to do at least 2 laundries to get the smell out of my clothes (those in my unzipped suitcase too). Some people with respiratory problems could get very sick in the place like that. Maybe other cottages were better and we just got unlucky but are you willing to take the risk?
