#16 of 18 B&Bs / Inns in Put in Bay
The Islander Inn is Put-in-Bay's first and largest Caribbean style resort. We have 115 rooms surrounding 4 swimming pools including a large heated pool, conversation pool with a waterfall, 30 person jacuzzi as well as our swim-up-bar pool. The Islander Inn also features the island's original swim-up bar, The Dizzy Lizard. The Dizzy has 9 seats in the water and and seats on land. This is the bar that changed how afternoons were spent on Put in Bay. At the back of our courtyard sits Crash Landings, a bar with an airplane crashed into the top of it. Both of these are open from mid May through mid September, weather permitting. Located between the Islander Inn and our sister hotel, the Grand Islander, sits Put-in-Bay's #1 afternoon hotspot Splash! Splash is the World's Largest Swim-up Bar. We have 97 bar seats in the water and 120 chaise lounge chairs outside of the pool for sunbathing. With live entertainment on the weekends and plenty of other fun during the week, Splash is definitely the place to cool off and have a cold drink with your best friends. Overlooking Splash is The Flaming Skull. The Skull is a full scale pirate ship that sits next to Splash. Guests can walk up on the deck and watch out over the pool while having a drink at the 80 seat bar. Get your picture taken with the captain so your friends will believe you when you say you were on a pirate ship on Put-in-Bay. We are located right in the heart of downtown Put-in-Bay and are within walking distance to most of the major attractions. Should you want to explore the island a little more, we do have golf carts available for rent at our Front Desk with some of the lowest rates on the island. You can rent a cart for a couple hours or go all day if you want.

For the price we paid for this room i expected it to be a lot nicer. It was Fourth of July and it’s a very busy time and I understand that’s why the prices are high. However we had been walking around put in bay all day and we were very hot and were expecting to walk into a cool lobby but instead the lobby was hot and stuffy. The girl at the desk seemed like we were bothering here by checking in. When we got to our room the ac was not on and we left it running all day and it still was incredibly hot in our room. Me and my husband could not sleep and tossed and turned all night. Also the phone in the room didn’t work at all even though it was plugged in and I was trying to get ahold of the front desk for extra towels. I would of just went to the desk for towels but our room was in a different building and it’s hard to remember how to get back to the front desk. I would stay here again if I had too but I just wasn’t impressed at all.

The Islander Inn is nicely located in Put In Bay. We had no issue walking from the hotel to any of the shops, restaurants, bars, marina or other tourist locations. They have a large parking lot, should a decision be made to ferry a car over to South Bass Island. The hotel is a bit old (definitely nothing fancy), however, it has been maintained. We found our simplistic room clean and comfortable, affording us restful nights' sleep. Certainly, we were only in the room for sleep. Otherwise, we were out and about. The Caribbean motif hotel has four pools and two bars on-site. We visited in early May when temperatures were in the 50-60s, so no pool time for us. However, other hotel guests did make use of their hot tub. Had the weather been nicer, their "Splash" pool has 97 seats in the water. Alternatively, they have some 150 chaise lounges spread around the edges of the pools too. The hotel is a large property. Although we easily walked everywhere around Put In Bay, the Islander Inn (as well as other city locations) rents golf carts for even easier transport location to location. The staff at the front desk were quite pleasant and helpful. Based upon the cool weather, the hotel was not at all busy when we stayed. I imagine during peak season June - September that they are much busier and perhaps noisier. However, people generally travel to Put In Bay for party time. We would have no issue staying at Islander Inn in the future.

Went there to spend a couple of nights. Meeting friends who were boaters. Seems to us that it was run down and dated .Might have been nice years ago. Our room smelled very musty. Air conditioner worked but noisy all night. It was clean enough superficially. No refrigerator and they would not allow us to bring in coolers. We were not expecting the moon but definitely not worth the cost.

I rated the Islander about 8 to 10 years ago as a Rat Hole and I wanted to give them another shot to see if improvements were made and nothing's changed. It's just as bad as my 1st review. I called 2 to 3 months ago to get a Wednesday and Thursday room. I asked for a 2nd floor room, and it was $30 a night extra fee to get a 2nd floor room. Only the rooms had air conditioning. The bathroom was a mess. Cracked tiles around the shower enclosure with no caulking at all. The room air conditioning cooled the room down quite nicely. The hallways were like a sauna. The room did have a great view of the pools. The room had ants in it, and there were ants in the bathroom area and when I told the front desk about it the lady asked me if they were coming from behind the dresser, and I said yes and mentioned the bathroom as well. There was a fellow as the front desk who said he sprayed for ants a couple of rooms down. They knew they were renting rooms that had bug problems, and she said, "sorry about that." That was it for me. Outside, they have a nice big hot-tub that wasn't hot at all; it was actually cool. There was a ring of dirt around the pool edging of very dirty to somewhat clean areas where your head would rest. The pool chairs had bird poo on them and were old and very dated. I won't even mention the swim up bar's water color was blue in the morning and greenish blue by evening time. The first night we came back to the hotel to a total blackout. We thought the power was out, but it turned out that they did not have a single light on the outside of the building. When we told the front desk staff about it they just shrugged. An absolutely outrageous cost for a hotel of terrible quality. Never again.

Not much to complain about. Staff was friendly. The rooms weren't top of the line, but they were definitely updated (paint, carpet, tile, furniture) and the shower had water pressure!! Pools could use some love, but they weren't bad. Stayed on a Sunday night so the place was almost all ours and we didn't hear any outside noise.
