Landoll's Mohican Castle provides a boutique hotel experience in central Ohio. The Castle contains uniquely designed suites with fine furnishings that fit the style of an old world castle. In addition, there are four adjoining suites in a separate building called the Highland Suites. Finally, there are two free-standing cottages. The Highlands and cottages have been built to fit the theme of the large suite rooms that are featured in the Castle. New in 2018! The Stables at The Castle features new suites! The Castle Event Center is the largest of its kind in the Mohican-Loudonville area, seating up to 200 people in banquet-style seating. The Event Center and The Copper Mug Bar & Grille restaurant recently hosted a filming by a Gordon Ramsay television show. The result of this experience was a complete redesign of the menu for the restaurant and wedding events.

Detailed Reviews
I booked this get-a-way for a birthday surprise for my husband. The experience was just okay. The suite we stayed in was expensive, but the condition of the room and the bed linens were subpar. The complimentary robes were dirty and when I went to make coffee the coffee maker had a moldy filter left from a previous guest. I expressed my concern to the front desk, who offered no solution other than, I will have housekeeping look into it. I had made reservations for the restaurant for a birthday surprise dinner 2 months out. I was extremely disappointed that I was not informed that it would be a buffet in a cafeteria setting. While the food was okay, it was a huge disappointment. I would have made dinner reservation in Mansfield at a nicer restaurant. My five children joined us for dinner and they were shocked that it cost $8 to park. They were told it was to see the Christmas lights. The castle was beautifully lit, but when I am spending $500 at dinner it should have included parking and dessert! I was surprised that when I got the bill we were charges $10 per dessert that was not even made on site but pre-made by the Cheesecake factory.(I know this because I called to order a special dessert for my husbands birthday) This property has so much potential, it lacks attention to details. At the prices charged, it should be an "experience" made to feel like royalty for the castle themed lodging. Extremely disappointed in the overall experience.

During these trying times, we are always looking for really unique places to travel to that will be safe. While the architecture of the main building was fairly unique, it seems like most of the facilities are in desperate need of upgrades and renovations. The little cabin that we stayed in had extremely worn out old furniture and a lot of deferred maintenance. It did seem like it was cleaned before arrival. At the property itself, there’s not much to do and really no hiking trails or places to explore. Mohican is nearby as well as Malabar Farms State Park, should you choose to do outdoor activities. Service at the bar was dismal at best, most likely due to a shortage of staff and the fact that there were several weddings going on. Although the cocktails were very good! Even though they have a restaurant on site, they do not deliver to the rooms, you have to place an order and drive or walk quite a distance to pick up. Probably the best thing about this place were the fluffy white towels and robes that were provided in the room. Hoping to visit again in the distant future once some upgrades are put in place... Our cabin had a two person outdoor Jacuzzi that seemed to be very clean and in good working order. There was a beautiful fountain outside of the main check-in area. There is an indoor pool on the property, but we did not use it. There did appear to be a children’s play area.

My wife and I came here for High Tea. At $40 each, I thought going in that the price was high, but left thinking we had received a very good value! Since it was cold out, the tea took place in the large function room (where they have weddings, etc). The staff was all masked and each group had its own table, pretty far from all the other tables. The food was gourmet, excellent and plentiful. You could get more if you wanted more, but we left quite full without getting extra. It was a very nice afternoon interlude while visiting the area and looking at the foliage.

We spent 2 nights recently at Landoll's Mohican Castle. There were several issues. We had looked forward to a special couple of days away and, unfortunately, we were very disappointed.
First, the room. We arrived at our room (Robert the Bruce in a nearby building to the castle). The room was dark, even with the shades up, the carpet seemed old and, although the pictures appeared to show an "old english" feel, what it really felt like was old and slightly worn. There were 2 dead flies on the floor of the bathroom. What was most unsettling was that it was quite cold and we were unable to find any way to adjust the temperature. I returned to the front desk and was told that, in fact, we could not control the temperature in the room because the unit was broken and they were unable to obtain parts. The temperature was controlled from the thermostat in the room above it, which we did not have access to. They did send someone to change the temperature; however, we ended up asking for another room as we wanted some ability to control the room temperature. Not at all sure why they rented this room. They did agree quickly to move us; the room we moved to was modern and pleasant but we had chosen this location due to it's old English atmosphere and we ended up in a high end, well-appointed hotel room.
Second. We ate at the restaurant on site that evening. Food was good. However, they do not allow you to place restaurant bill on your room; this hotel is at a very remote location, they made the reservation for us at check in. We had a credit card but it was very unexpected.
Third. Housekeeping. We were there for two nights. We arrived back at the room around 2 pm and were surprised to find that housekeeping had not yet come; when we left around 11, the housekeeper was working on the room next to ours. I called the front desk and was told that housekeeping came between 3-5 pm for those who were not checking out. I asked if they could come around 4 and she said yes. The housekeeper arrived at 4 pm, asked how many clean towels I wanted and said nothing about coming in. I offered to leave the room but she said there was no need; so, no housekeeping, just a change of towels. For $99 at Holiday Inn they actually clean your room; for $199 at Landoll's, they give you as many clean towels as you want.
I would be very unlikely to return.

We arrived New Years Eve and check in was listed as 3:00PM. I believe our arrival was close to 3:30PM and the room was not ready. The staff was nice enough to buy us a drink and appetizer while we waited. The bartender was friendly and whipped up our drinks. After checking in we wanted to check out the pool, hot tub and grotto. Unfortunately the hot tub was sitting behind a partition and a sign indicating that it was out of order. The bulb lights inside the pool grotto seemed to be out of order as well.
We eventually made our way to our dinner reservation at 7:00. The dining room was extremely busy and staff appeared overwhelmed. We waited at the host stand for several minutes before being seated. Once seated we waited even longer for drinks or acknowledgement from the servers. We had to flag down the individual who seated at 7:20 pm to get water. We both ordered steaks and they were flavorful but both overcooked. Silverware and menus could both use some cleaning.
The property is very unique and impressive but that did not make up for the overall unimpressive and costly experience.

My husband booked a room in the castle as a surprise for me for our anniversary. The price was high but he wanted something special so he splurged. Upon arrival we found that we were not staying in the castle but in the “stables” which was nothing more than a strip motel. No hot tub or pool nearby, just a room. We couldn’t even see the castle from our vantage point. As I prepared to unpack our bags I opened the door that hid the drawers and there was a pair of dirty men’s underwear hanging on the drawer pull. My husband took a tissue and threw them in the garbage. When we looked by the bed there was a dirty man’s sock in the floor between the bed and the wall. The bathroom door had a quarter inch of dust on the bottom of each panel. When we came back from dinner we had to use the flashlight on our phones to navigate to our room and unlock the door because there was no outside lighting. My husband complained about the condition of the room and while we were at dinner the front desk called and told us that they were sending someone in to clean the room while we were out and that we were to stop by the desk and select a bottle of wine. When we returned the room was in the same condition that we left it. For $250 a night we expected much more.

The castle is advertised as a "Luxury" hotel. It is definitely not luxury. When I pay for luxury I think plush mattresses, high thread count sheets, new blankets, updated furnishings and window treatments, and outlets and UBS ports for this century. Both rooms we ended up staying in need new mattresses, new sheets and blankets as well as window curtains, and outlets and thermostats/heating units for modern day.
We stayed in two rooms because the shower head leaked so much and so loudly our first night we asked for a new room in the morning. Based on the response of the staff and maintence crew this shower head has been a chronic issue. Then the room they moved us to had with a mattress that had a big divot in it. It was hard and the sheets and blankets were worn and just not up to the caliber expected of a luxury hotel. My husband made it work the first night, the following night he slept on the couch.
We caught an episode of Hotel Hell that featured the castle in 2016. It showed the exact room we had been moved to. Everything in the room as exactly as it was when it was filmed in 2016....down to the nic naks on the bookshelf, the worn couch, the DVD player, the old phone jacks, and worn curtains... only it was 6 years later and 6 years more worn.
The massages we received in our room were fantastic. The grounds are beautiful. For the money, however, I would find yourself a nice spa, a better mattress to sleep on, and drive up and do a walking tour of the grounds. The restaurant is suffering some post COVID blues, for sure. They were out of a few a things, about to do a menu change and weeding out other items and skeleton staff that is doing their best. (For breakfast there was one server who took over 10 minutes to get us coffee because she stated the coffee cups were dirty and she had to wash them herself.) But if you can be patient with that the restaurant is otherwise good. The Johnny Appleseed is a great drink.
Bottomline, they need to either update the rooms to reflect the luxury they advertise or if they don't want to do the work, charge less.

The castle suite we were in was really comfortable and clean. The bedding was very comfortable. It appeared to me that the thermostat on the room unit was not working, as it did not change temperature during our stay. I was however able to cool down the air temp to allow us to get a more comfortable night sleep. The cabinet door below the sink was about to completely separate itself from the base cabinet, showing a poor maintenance program in the castle rooms. The bathroom is in desperate need of a shelf or table to place your toiletries when getting ready for bed or preparing for the day. There are no outlets in the bedroom area to plug in your charging cords for your phone or watch. The nearest useable outlet was in the kitchen area.
Last night’s dinner at the on-site restaurant was pretty much a disaster (not a lot of better restaurants nearby). My wife had the schnitzel, which was completely overcooked and impossible to cut into. Her streusel was actually a piece of pie taken from the refrigerator and served cold, very cold. Not sure who was cheffing last night! My stroganoff was slightly better. It had a good sauce, sufficient mushrooms and nice pieces of beef. Instead of using wide egg noodles, which I expected, they used dense spiral macaroni noodles. My chocolate dessert cake could have used more raspberry sauce, as it was advertised as a Raspberry chocolate cake.
We walked down to the restaurant this morning for breakfast and learned that chef this morning was one of the office staff members. Fortunately, she did a great job!! The French toast and bacon were prepared to perfection! We appreciated the effort. Please find a chef for the evening meal!

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am not sure which room you stayed in but we do have outlets next to every bed on property. We have brought the damaged items within the room to the attention of our maintenance team. Staffing is a struggle here on property as much as it is anywhere. That being said, we do have a good management team that steps in to help out as much as they can. If you know any good chefs we are hiring!

I was excited to take my fiancée here for valentines day because staying in a castle is exciting and romantic. But you must pay close attention when booking because there is actually only a select number of rooms in the castle “ which didn’t look like a real castle in my opinion.” So was shocked when our room was down the road from the castle and looked like a high end motel 8 . The bed was broke, and tv didn’t work and our room smelled strongly of marijuana due to the people next to us smoking none stop the entire stay. The smell was so strong it kept us awake until the finally went to bed at 2 am and then it started back up at 9am. The rooms vents need to be separated or filtered! Get what Hot water you can because halfway filling up the jacuzzi tub it was all cold water. You must drive to the restaurant unless you want to venture the ice skating walk ways. Walking into the restaurant the door handle literally came off. We waited a long time to get our food and out appetizer was forgotten about and never brought out. My fiancée $50 steak was cooked into jerky . Drop $150 for dinner for two and it was on par with going to an outback steak house just Double the price. I would not recommend anyone to visit here. I was very disappointed as I planned this special weekend getaway and spent a lot of money. Would of been better to stay home and cook.

Had a nice time here. Grounds are pretty and very peaceful. Room was nice but so dark. I wish the decor was updated a bit. We stayed two nights and the second night we could hear people upstairs walking around, dropping stuff constantly and music. It only lasted an hour which I was fine with but I hated that the walls were so thin you could hear everything. Had breakfast and dinner at the copper mug. It was amazing! For me, if it wasn’t for the restaurant I would not have continued the stay. The bed was soft but I just didn’t sleep well for some reason. Won’t plan to stay again just because of it being dark and dreary. It just wasn’t my thing. All the employees were very friendly and helpful.
