Landoll's Mohican Castle provides a boutique hotel experience in central Ohio. The Castle contains uniquely designed suites with fine furnishings that fit the style of an old world castle. In addition, there are four adjoining suites in a separate building called the Highland Suites. Finally, there are two free-standing cottages. The Highlands and cottages have been built to fit the theme of the large suite rooms that are featured in the Castle. New in 2018! The Stables at The Castle features new suites! The Castle Event Center is the largest of its kind in the Mohican-Loudonville area, seating up to 200 people in banquet-style seating. The Event Center and The Copper Mug Bar & Grille restaurant recently hosted a filming by a Gordon Ramsay television show. The result of this experience was a complete redesign of the menu for the restaurant and wedding events.

After COVID delayed our visit for over a year, we finally visited Landoll's Mohican Castle in March 18-19, 2022. We stayed at the MacBeth Cottage mainly because we had 2 of our fur babies with us and the cottages are the only "rooms" that allow pets. I would've loved to have stayed in a suite - they looked really "castle"ish! The cottage was very quaint and perfect size for just the 2 of us with 2 small dogs. It would've been too crowded with bigger dogs. The steps leading up to the cabin were a bit treacherous especially after it snowed over night. But the front porch we did manage to use briefly and was nice with coffee in the morning. We loved the side back door leading out to the backyard which was helpful with taking the dogs outside so we didn't have to traverse the front steps all the time. We did not use the whirlpool / jacuzzi outside. I would not say you could prepare a meal yourself there as the kitchen is small but the Copper Mug restaurant was really nice - loved the ambience there and the food was spectacular. We ate there for dinner and breakfast the next morning. You could probably walk to the restaurant but the grounds are hilly. We took some time and wandered the grounds after dinner which was fun and almost magical / fairy like at night with the castle lights on. There is a graveyard to explore too which was fun and there's a pool house with sauna which we did not use. Very beautiful grounds. It is on the expensive side so staying longer than 1 night was not an option but it was a fun over night experience driving in from Toledo, OH.

I have stayed here twice in less than a month. Both times I stayed at the Macbeth cottage. I absolutely LOVE it. This place is so peaceful and calming. Make sure you stop at The Copper Mug to eat! There is a small hiking path too, and for birders like me, it's a great spot to find birds to photograph!

After all the things we had heard about this place my fiance wanted to go and check it out. So we did and what a major let down. There was a lot of unfinished staining on the exterior wood trim and the sidewalk was in dire need of repairs. And to us it really doesn't look like a castle. Then to go to the onsite restaurant you have to walk down a hill so don't be disabled (as I'm a disabled veteran) because coming back up to the so called Castle. And I forgot to mention that the road you have to go on to get there is something else 2 pickup trucks can not pass each other except to go off the road to get by each other. So I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! Not even my worst enemy!!!

The grounds and exteriors of the buildings are lovely. Unfortunately this is where the positives end. I stayed here for a wedding I was in and requested to stay in the same building as the rest of the bridal party, the castle. The request was not fulfilled and I was given no reason why. My spouse and I were offered a bottle of wine or a T-shirt for "the inconvenience". The room we were given in The Stables was very large, but the space wasn't used well, so it just felt empty. We had a nice note left to us from the housekeeper for the room welcoming us, but I wouldn't have wanted my name tied to what we were presented with. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. The extensive decorative bedding had visible dirt on it. There was a strip of carpet missing from near the couch. The night stand door didn't close. The only trash can was very small and located in the bathroom. We found a few live bugs. The coffee maker was cheap. The bed was a king, but the sheets were scratchy, the pillows were standard sized and flat. The mattress was most likely original to when they opened, as it was lumpy and uncomfortable. The air conditioning unit was loud and didn't work well, never really cooling down the room or combating the humidity. The towels were not luxurious, more standard motel fare. Getting to the stables was a journey, made worse in darkness. I was told to look for a bronze horse to turn into the parking lot. This horse was not lit, and it's seen after you miss the turn. The WiFi was horrible no matter where we were on the property, and each building had its own network and password, just to make it more confusing. I missed out on several vital text messages and calls due to the lack of service. My spouse checked out of the room, as I was getting ready with the rest of those in the wedding. However he didn't realize I put liquor, energy drinks, and snacks in the mini fridge. On the drive home post nuptials, around four hours after check out time, I called to ask them to give these items to another member of the bridal party who was staying an additional night. First, I was told the bottles were all empty, and got thrown away. When challenged and the list of items provided they said IF it was found, I'd receive a phone call. Talking out of both sides of your mouth, much? This place was horribly expensive, but the amenities provided do not match the price paid. The metal physical keys were quaint, but introduced a new anxiety as only one was given out per room, and the castle doors automatically locked when latched. Who has the key? and Where is the key? was a fun new game introduced to the bridal party. The event planner was disorganized, and I only dealt with her day of the event, I can only imagine the frustration and miscommunications the bride and groom had to deal with leading up to their big day.

We always try to have lunch here once during our camping trip. Such beautiful scenery and great facilities for a wedding, banquet, retreat. We combined it with a camping trip to Mohican Wilderness Campground. I would like to come and stay at the hotel sometime and do their ghost tour. Really enjoyed it and our lunch was wonderful. Love the perch and fries at lunch.

First the good stuff. This is a beautiful location, with nice landscaping and a charming castle exterior (we did not take the tour). Their website is extremely laudatory, giving the impressions you will be staying the lap of luxury. Read on. We did not stay in the castle proper, but in the Macbeth Cottage. This cottage is a liability lawsuit waiting to happen. It is an old stone cottage which has been extended over the years. But the renovation was only partially completed. The curving stone steps up to the front door are steep and broken up, giving my wife, who had a total knee replacement a few months ago, quite a challenge. Inside, the area rugs are old, stained and curled up at the edges, providing a built-in tripping hazard. The bed in the bedroom is stuffed up against a wall so that you can only get into the bed from one side. Whoever is on the far side has to crawl over the other person to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. The interior has been renovated, but the job is pretty half a$$. In order to save a wire or two, the butcher who rewired the place put the overhead light in the bedroom and the sitting room on two switches each, both of which have to be turned on to light the room (in other words, not wired as a 3-way switch. I'm sure this confounds anyone who tries to use the lights. The deck for the hot tub is coming apart, As I explored the hot tub, I found that the cover was broken diagonally making it hard to manage, and the interior had dirt and leaves, indicating to me that the tub probably was not properly sanitized. We did not use it, although we paid for it. The porch is creaky and is in desperate need of a coat of paint. Then, for added ambiance, we took a walk outside the cabin and my wife noticed a tampon thrown away near the barbecue grill. Then there is the restaurant. They have a captive audience since there is nothing else for miles around. Let's just say that the quality of the prices far exceeds the quality of the food. For dinner, I had the chicken bruschetta. The chicken breast was tough and stringy, and there was not much bruschetta to be found. For breakfast, the scrambled eggs were overcooked and hard, like you would expect to find in a buffet line. The toast you could crumble in your hands, and the advertised hash browns were actually home fries. The service in the restaurant was good. There was one nice touch. When we entered the cabin, there was a CD playing of Celtic music. Very soothing, but didn't make up for the rest. We complained to the concierge upon leaving and demanded a refund. She said she was not authorized to do so, but would forward our complaints to the owner, Joe. She said he would probably be in next week some time (read "absentee landlord"). I have seen his other responses in the reviews. He is very sorry for your experience, but I suspect that is the extent of his concern.

I visited recently with my kids (age 9 and 12) and some other relatives. We booked rooms in the Stables. There was a nice outdoor patio area that was very quiet for us to visit together in the afternoons in a natural setting. There was also a quarter mile trail from the Stables to the cemetery and pool house that the kids enjoyed hiking every day. The pool was really nice with an interesting little grotto area and the hot tub was very clean. The game room also kept us busy on a rainy day with pool, foosball, darts, etc. The scenery overall is so calming and peaceful. The rooms were very spacious, my only complaint was that it felt quite damp in the room. We enjoyed multiple meals at the Copper Mug - the service was so friendly and accommodating to my vegetarian restrictions, they made it a point to make me something that I'd like. The vegan scramble on the breakfast menu was fantastic. There was a nice lighted trail between the Stables and the restaurant. Everything was so walkable and the kids enjoyed exploring the grounds. As an added bonus, my kids enjoyed researching some of the ghost stories. It was truly perfect as far as a gathering place for extended family with beautiful little spots to gather together.

We stayed in the Hardesty Suite, which was very comfortable and accessible. The room finishes/decorations certainly made us feel like we were in a castle. Bedding and mattress were comfortable, room was clean, and robes were snuggly! TV was in a cabinet that was a bit awkward to view from the couch or the bed but we were able to make it work. Only issue was noises from the room above but they quieted down shortly after 10 pm and the room was very quiet afterwards. Staff was helpful in identifying restaurant options, since the on-site restaurant was closed on Easter evening. This place is relatively remote, though, so we ended up making do with snacks we had with us as our evening meal. We left early to beat an impending storm, so we weren’t able to eat breakfast at the castle either. The grounds were beautiful with many daffodils and spring-blooming shrubs. We stopped here on a long cross-country drive and it was a fun change from the run-of-the-mill hotels.
