BOOKING: 1st I'd like to say that I read the reviews, as always before I book anywhere, and saw that they give a discount for UNOH. I called and spent a good 15-20 min on the phone asking about that and the woman said she had no idea of what I was talking about. She replied " The AAA discount?" And I repeated UNOH and unfortunately couldn't spell it out anymore than that and I was put on hold for about 5 min while she asked someone, she came back and said she never heard of it so then I said "college" and it just went downhill from there. She offered to book the room on the phone so I figured why not, I've already wasted all this time. First question, of course, was my first name .. 6 letters .. I spelled it out then spelled it out phonetically 3 times she repeated it back to me every time with the wrong letters . By now my patience had worn thin and I said " Forget it, I'll book online" she asked me " Why are you hesitant about booking now?" I explained that for whatever reason she couldn't understand me and that we wasted another 5 min on just my first name and I wasn't going to go thru that for my last name, address, city, etc and that I already had the website up and was signed in and it will be faster. She then went into a spiel about if I booked now they'd give me a special offer that I can get a free room(or something along those lines, it was a typical sales pitch) I kept talking over her as she read her script, saying NO .. I hung up and booked online is less than it took me to dial the number!! For that they would get a ONE star review, people can't spend 30-40 min to book a room. CHECK-IN/ROOM/AMENITIES Now to the hotel, it's a stones throw from Cracker barrel so you can walk over and get a bite to eat and there's a bar/restaurant in the hotel that not only is super cheap but was really good! I was able to get into out room about 2 hours early, thankfully because it was a long trip, the girls at the front desk were great and gave us a room on the 3rd floor. The lobby was very nice and clean, you had the pool, pool table, air hockey, ping pong, a small play area for toddlers, the bar/restaurant, a small arcade and aside from regular vending machines they had an ice cream one as well. Our room was nice, very clean, the beds were comfortable, which for me is a MAJOR thing having had several spinal fusions, if the beds are bad my stay would be very painful... thankfully, it was not BUT the pillows are square sort of throw pillow type and some smelled of smoke.! The bathroom was pretty big and updated. There were ample places to charge your electronics, some built into the nightstand, the lamp, and there were plenty of outlets. One thing missing from the room?? A safe .. as a retired officer a safe is a MUST but they only have safe deposit boxes at the desk which isn't helpful. I also don't like not having one for medications or jewelry. That was a big disappointment and I must've missed it on the website. We got a late night snack at the bar one night and it was really good! Got the coney dog and wings and not only were they inexpensive they were fresh and tasty! It was very quiet during out stay and we hardly saw anyone but on our last night I went to get a soda from the vending machine and I ran into a woman in the hallway who was visibly upset and she told me to be careful because her and her husband had just checked in and had a room on the lower floor and they saw a bedbug and the hotel moved them upstairs and closed that room. Now, I know with people coming and going there's always that chance of them being somewhere, but make sure you check your room(no matter where you are) before getting comfortable.…
If you want a clean hotel stay with very nice professional staff this is your place. They go out of their way to accommodate. I stay here 3-4 times a year while doing business in Lima. The breakfast lacks a big selection but for free its fine. There is a bar/pizza restaurant in the hotel and it is very good.
The staff were great but I read a review that the breakfast was great and even offered gluten free. The ONLY gluten free option was Honey Nut Cheerios and yogurt. Besides that everything was great and faculties were clean, pool looked clean and the game room was an added plus.
We've stayed here twice now while visiting our UNOH student. Staff is always pleasant, facilities clean. Breakfast has great options (even gluten free!) Call front desk prior to arrival for UNOH discount. Will be visiting again!
Fabulous stay. Beautiful accommodations. Friendly and good service. Comfortable, clean roomy. Nicest of all our stays along 1-75. Quiet well-appointed room with good ventilation. Easy parking and access to room with luggage carts.
Very nice stay. Nice pool, great hot breakfast with many options, free Wi-Fi the only thing was the tv only had cable. No way to buy a movie n watch it with the family. No way to login to netflix, prime, ect
Was a very nice place. Staff was very friendly. Overall clean we had no issues checking in or out. We extended our stay a few days longer than we reserved for and the staff was very helpful with getting the extra nights added on.
Had a great stay, grandsons enjoyed the pool as well as the available gams tables and small game room. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Hotel was easy to find and close to a number of restaurants with easy access to the highway.
This motel has the best pizza ! I couldn't eat the whole thing but I certainly tried ! Not too many people know that they even make this pizza but they do and you really should try it out. It is made in the kitchen of the bar area after 5 o'clock in the afternoon. A deluxe (what I had) is a 14" and was only $15.00 (and well worth it). You can get them to carry out and you can probably order one if you call ahead to pick it up (I would assume) by calling the Howard Johnson front desk. You won't be disappointed.
Everything was clean and everyone was super friendly! The pizza bar at night was awesome and reasonably priced!! The hotel is older, the elevator was the worst part to me. But it was a great place, great price, good breakfast. I loved the pool!! LOVED! Very different and it was sooooo much better than the loud, echoing "pool rooms" for most indoor pools!!! Water needs to be just a bit warmer, because the room temperature isn't hot like a typical indoor pool, which I also loved!
