Shortly after my husband and I arrived at our room, I stepped in what I though was something damp only to realize it was throw up from some prior visitor ( quite disgusting ), then we realized the entire wall and room was covered with mosquitos. After calling the emergency line, Marvin ( not sure of the name ) met us at the front office basically arguing with us regarding the throw up and mosquitos. Marvin was basically accusing my husband of leaving the door open and that allowed the mosquitos to get into the room. The rest of my family had not arrived at the same time my husband and I and Marvin was more concerned where they were and not the throw up or mosquitos. The front desk at this place is always unfriendly, seems like everything you ask for is a issue or problem, very unwelcoming. We have stayed a number of times and we have quietly put up with the unfriendly office staff ( talking with others at the pool-they all have same comments about office staff and how unfriendly they are to guests ) but since this last visit with the throw up and massive amount of insects I was compelled to write this review. Besides that the lighting in the rooms is very dark, needs an entire update-furniture dated, pillows too small, pool towels hopefully bigger than a hand towel, light bulbs that work.

The room was large but poorly lighted. Furnishings and the room itself were tired and needed a complete redo for the money that was charged.Bed pillows were very four small cushion pillows , not sure why . Pool towels were small and scratchy. We tried to enjoy the pool but with the very loud R&R music in the background and the power washing being done the main building made it a unpleasant experience. The room's AC was very loud and my wife needed aspirin to recover the next morning. The staff was very nice. I guess if you are one of a few places to stay on the island, you can call your business a resort but this is no resort in my opinion.

We’ve stayed at the Venture Resort about 10 times and have never been disappointed. The hotel is not cheap but it’s so clean and the property is so well kept it makes it worth the cost. Some folks complain about the front desk, lol, a lot do in fact. It becomes pool talk even. The gentleman that runs the desk has very little people skills. He’s been there for years and he’s not going anywhere so just get over it. He’s always nice to me says welcome back and is always respectful. With that said he doesn’t get over appreciative that we are yearly customers either. It’s his personality I guess, we don’t come back because of the front desk. We come back because of the love they put into their family owned hotel. Next year we will be back and with our whole family. Year after year you see the same employees working the resort, that says more about the resort than a monotone front desk. I’m amazed watching watching them work and their attention to detail. We will be coming back for years to come. I do have a complaint, fix the light in the parking lot, it’s too dark to see anything or anyone.

Girls weekend in the Cunningham Suite. Pictures online do not do it justice. Two full baths with gleaming showers. Three separate bedrooms with king-sized beds. Two balconies, one private balcony with chairs overlooking pool and hot tub. Full kitchen, full-sized fridge but no d/w. Bar-height long table between kitchen and living room with seating for 8. Loveseat and two chairs in living room with large TV. Washer/dryer in closet. Mini-size Beekman brand shampoo, conditioner. lotion provided (the Beekman Boys from Amazing Race.) Bike rental was free. Don't try to check in early -- it ain't happening. Staff on our weekend were very pleasant. If you like to sleep in, choose one of the back bedrooms because quiet time ends at 7am and the pool man starts playing his music then. There's a water-front area across the road from hotel with two permanent grills and picnic tables. This place is right next to Kelleys Island Brewing and restaurant and is walkable from town. Kelleys Island Ferry is a bit farther away. Golf cart rental avail at ferry. Jet Express docks right in town, though it does not carry cars. Lots of kids here, probably because of the pool.

Our family went camping at Kelleys Island State Park for the weekend. When we arrived at the ferry dock for the short trip back to the mainland, we learned that the ferry service was suspended for the day due to lake conditions. That forced our group to find last minute accommodations for the night. A ferry employee recommended this place, so I called them to see if they could help us out. They did more than that. We got a two-level room with 3 queen-sized beds that accommodated our group of six. When we had an issue with the heating unit in our first room, they immediately moved us to another room. I know this was off-season for the places on the island, but the rate they offered us was very generous. The room had not one, but three TV's, so the kids could watch TV anywhere. Room also had a sitting area where we could play games before the kids went to bed.
