Stayed at the hotel on 31st Dec 2016. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Phil who was lovely! He gave us a great overview of the hotel facilities and the room. Breakfast was included which was a lovely surprise! The room was clean and the view amazing!! The bed super comfortable! Breakfast was served a little later than expected, but...

Well we said we would be back and two years later here we are! Again, everything was perfect. A lovely warm welcome and at times it feels like you are staying in an exclusive B&B which could be anywhere in the world but it has homely touches as well. We love the view across to the ocean which I think...

We changed plans at the last minute on a driving tour of north-western Tasmania and rang this hotel on the off-chance they had a room available. The owner, Phil, could not have been nicer and booked us in over the phone. On arrival, he greeted us, showed us the hotel facilities and gave us some interesting info about the area,...

Stayed overnight in October 2016. Small sleepy type of town and was quite. Hotel is situated on main road in town but no noise and no traffic. Penguin is situation off the main road linking Launceston, Devonport to the tip of Tassie. Hotel was really comfortable and runs a trustworthy bar of tick what you had and pay on check...

Terrific boutique hotel. Beautifully restored original old bank building. Phil greeted us warmly and gave us a bit of history of the hotel and the town. Our room was the waterfront suite which was lovely, comfortable with a great view of the beach - would be a little small for a long stay. Of course being an old building there...

I stayed in the penthouse for (sadly) just one night after arriving in Tassie from Melbourne. I totally loved this hotel and hope to be back one day (sooner rather than later). The penthouse has everything you could ever need, with beautiful views over the beach. It was very comfortable and would make a great base for a longer stay....

We had a really nice stay at the Madsen. The bed and bed linen were super comfy, and the owner (?) Phil was very accommodating and friendly. The view from the seaside rooms is superb, right on the beach. Highly recommended.

With only a few rooms, this hotel has the intimate feel of a luxury B&B rather than a hotel (and all the better for it!). Facilities have been well described in previous reviews and I can confirm these are accurate; though you may have to 'serve yourself' at times you still get better facilities than most large chain hotels. I...

The Madsen is a gorgeous boutique hotel in a sleepy small town. Great breakfast each morning, comfortable bed and lots of amenities - nice bathroom products, complimentary sherry or port, plunger coffee, plenty of games and dvds to borrow. Penguin has zero dinner options on a Monday or Tuesday night but Ulverstone or Burnie are only about 15 minutes drive...

Thank you for the accurate description of The Madsen and Penguin in particular, the latter is indeed a sleepy small boutique town, particularly regarding dining options in the evening. We have good news to report regarding dining options on the Monday and Tuesday that previously only had the bistro at the Neptune Hotel open on those nights. Perpendicular Café is...
