Dropped in for lunch and the burgers are amazing and the coffee is good. Great little museum full of collectables from locals and you can also go into the original cell in the middle of the place. The museum itself is worth the trip alone but add the coffee and burgers and it makes it so much better. Lovely friendly... More

Visited for lunch with friends! Staff were very helpful and welcoming. We have 4 small children who were also made to feel very welcome. Food was great and we will be visiting again. Great little museum to wander through also. A must see if visiting Sofala.

I have stayed in the Old Goal on several occasions now. The owners Dianne and Harvey are long time locals and a wealth of knowledge, friendly and trusting, old style country hospitality at its best. No internet, limited mobile phone reception, just perfect for a escape from reality. The setting is picturesque and just above the town with the pub... More

If looking for comfy accommodation at a reasonable price RIGHT IN THE HEART of one of the oldest surviving little gold mining townships, then you can't go past Sofala Gaol. Also if you are looking for sincere old fashioned country hospitality, Dianne certainly provides that and more. I loved my short stay here and the help I received from Dianne... More

I stayed here with my father for a weekend in the old gaol, which is a medium-sized building which had a restaurant which has since closed. There is no internet, not TV, mobile phone coverage, restaurants in the town, so come prepared. Self catering is a must and there is a full size commercial kitchen, however we were told off... More

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed here. It really is a great place to stay in this area. The cottage is old, but fully self contained. Clean and well presented. Kangaroo poo around the driveway suggests that you may have had a nocturnal visitor or so. You are just across the hotel..the pub..so you will... More

A cheap and quaint option for travellers to Sofala is a cottage. There are several, however we stayed in the cottage operated by the Old Sofala Gaol. The cottage is in the village centre, but quiet, as is Sofala itself. Has three bedrooms and a large fireplace for winter. We still needed plenty of warm clothes though. Our daughter loved... More

Old Sofala Gaol is one of those places that is really off the beaten track. It a true little gem! The B&B rooms are comfortable ( and cheap), but you really have to try the food from the restaurant. It may take a while to be served, but it is worth the wait. Sofala is a town that time has... More
