CASA COCO is a large renovated house fronted by a sun filled terrace stretching the whole length of the house and beyond. Based on a traditional Mexican style, the spacious living/kitchen area is open without shutters. The two large bedroom suites with Queen Size beds on the main floor, one of which with its own terrace overlooking the ocean, are separated by a small courtyard with a fountain. Upstairs, you find a cozy sitting/reading area with balconies and a large bedroom area with two single beds and balconies. We just added a private sunbathing sand terrace close to the house and yet hidden for the comfort and pleasure of sun fans. Nestled on the side of the mountain amidst luxuriant tropical vegetation teaming with wild exotic birds both houses offer panoramic vistas of the Pacific, the mountain, Puerto Vallarta in the distance and the beach. In season you may even be lucky to see the whales and dolphins play right below. Truly one of the best locations in Yelapa. CASA COCO as well as our other house on the property COCO CABANA are equipped with radio/CD/I-pod players, games and some reading material. Towels, bed sheets, soap, shampoo/conditioner and body lotions will be provided. Both houses can be shared by the same group of people but offer complete privacy to separate parties each with its own entrance walkway and terraces. Casa Coco and Coco Cabana are designed to balance luxury and openness to nature. The furniture is Mexican in style with much hand carved wood. There are no windows but mahogany louvers for comfort and privacy.

We had to cut short a five-night stay at Casa Coco because there was a mosquito infestation on the property. As soon as the sun set, we couldn’t sit out on the lounge chairs and enjoy evenings, and had to retreat to bed. In bed, we felt like we were being eaten alive—even with mosquito nets and Deet spray. Apparently this was unusual, and no prior reviews mentioned this. Our host, owner Richard, let us out of the contract two days early, and reimbursed us about 80% of what we paid for those two nights. We then discovered a broken pump in the garden fountain, situated between the two bedrooms—filled with thousands of mosquito larvae! The owner told us the pump was “broken for a while”—uh, standing water in the jungle = a mosquito infestation, and he should have know that, and fixed the pump immediately. After we returned home, we asked Richard to reimburse us 50% for the nights we stayed, as roughly half the day was unbearable, and the infestation was due to his negligence, and was avoidable! We were also paying $225 per night (plus fees and $15/a day in tips which he asks you to pay his caretaker and housekeeper), which is one of the highest nightly fees in Yelapa. He completely refused, and felt letting us out of the contract and partially refunding us was sufficient compensation (we sought out Casa Coco to relax—not battle swarming mosquitoes which kept us up all night). Airbnb was sympathetic to our situation and reimbursed their fees, and then unexpectedly offered an additional reimbursement as they wanted to "support our community beyond the limits of our policies." Thanks airbnb, you are decent and to be trusted. Richard at Casa Coco, you are not okay and to be avoided. It reminds us of eBay sellers—there are those that go out of their way to make things right when you receive a defective item. There are others who will deny all responsibility and ignore all communication. Read the other reviews, and look at the mostly positive photos and captions I posted, we agree about how lovely the gardens and views are, and the nearby rocky beach has charm. The property is far (15 min. walk to town on uneven, rocky surfaces, much farther to the main beach), I enjoyed the walk, but others found it tedious. There are a cluster of rentals and Pura Vida Wellness Retreat on the beach below the steps to Casa Coco, so it was less private than we expected given how remote it is. The beds, other than the master, are low quality and uncomfortable. If you are willing to pay a lot for the view and gardens, and camping-like conditions, go for it. If anything goes wrong, though, be warned that the host won’t care.

Casa Coco is absolutely breathtaking. I generally like to stay in waterfront places but Casa Coco exceeded my expectations with its paradise like garden which lead to the water. The garden and view of the water combined made for the most relaxing and peaceful vacation I’ve ever had. We found Yelapa incredibly special as it has no cars and the people were extremely kind and friendly. The town is small so it’s quite refreshing how friendly and intimately the locals treat the tourists. Felipe who offers guests services such as traveling by boat or day trip services was very responsive and always smiling. His wife Yanet who offers her cooking services to guests is also great and her food was definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

We were invited by friends to join them on vacation at Casa Coco. We spent five wonderful days in Yelapa in March. This house is perfect for two couples but there is room for several extra guests up in the loft, which we didn’t even use. The house is unique and totally comfortable, and we were able to completely relax in the beautiful surroundings. The kitchen is very well-stocked, bathrooms were clean and bedrooms very comfortable. The house and gardens are very well cared for and the caretakers checked in regularly to see that we had everything we needed. The view from the house cannot be beat and, honestly, one can easily spend whole days enjoying the deck and various outdoor seating nooks. However, trips to town are fun too, and we greatly enjoyed the boat trips to Marietta Islands and local beaches, which can be easily arranged. We felt very well cared for and would love to come back.

We could only book five days (because of other bookings) but it was a great experience. We wish we could have stayed longer. The property is beautifully landscaped and has a stunning view of the Pacific. The open air kitchen/dining/lounging area was perfect and bedrooms were private and comfortable. We had all the amenities that we needed including a nice bluetooth sound system, drip coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, fridge and pantry. Walks to town were the perfect way to stay active. The shoreline path requires flashlights after dark but was doable for our middle aged crew. Felipe and Yanet were quite friendly and always asking how things were going. Felipe took us out on his boat to Las Marietas Islands NP for a great day of beach, wildlife viewing, and snorkeling. On the way back we witnessed many breaches of humpback whales which was a thrill. Another trip to the little town of Chimo and a lobster/shrimp lunch was a highlight. I highly recommend Casa Coco and Yelapa in general. It is a great escape from crazy Puerta Vallarta. Richard and Nathalie have a great thing going with this casa.

My family of 6 adults just stayed at Casa Coco again, for 13 days this time. We knew what to expect (see my prior review) but what we found was nothing short of magic. And compounding magic as the trip progressed. From day 1 the humpback whales were visible from the garden terrace as they breached and blew spouts in the bay. We started counting them, in the same way you count shooting stars, but soon gave up there was such an abundance. In the still nights we watched the cruise ships come and go from Puerto Vallarta and couldn't help but to feel sad for the poor souls on board as we sipped our tea and coffees and listened to the calming jungle as the lights of Yelapa glistened across the bay. It didn't take long to adapt to the tranquility as life became a circadian rhythm depending only on small choices — where to eat our breakfast, which beach to mark the idling of our day, whether or not to buy a coke at the market as we wander through town on our way back to Casa Coco. Let me be clear. This review is a difficult thing to write. You must go. And no, please do not, as Casa Coco truly is a best kept secret. When you lounge on the terrace watching the whales during the day and constellations at night, you'll know precisely what I mean. You'll know that nothing else can possibly compare.
