I spent a week at Pura Vida on a personal transformation retreat. Couldn't have chosen a better place. The host, Anjay, has a unique way of reaching people of all ages and all walks of life and nudging them toward discovering and embracing who they truly are. In addition, a large variety of healing modalities were available. Best deep tissue massage I have ever had! The cottages were amazing, tucked in the mountain slope and surrounded by palm trees. Salt water swimming pool and hot tub were a nice alternative to being in the ocean. Mangos, avocados, papayas and limes grew everywhere around. I happened to be there during the rainy season when the temperatures and the humidity were relatively high, but not unbearable. It was exhilarating to experience thunderstorms from my cottage without being separated by walls or windows; almost as if I was right in middle of the lightnings and thunders, but being protected from the rain. Food was delicious and plentiful, always freshly prepared by the kindest local women. If you love being immersed in nature away from the crowds of tourists, Pura Vida is your place to go. If you have lost your ways and need help recentering, Pura Vida is your place to go. Pura Vida is where magic and reality are inseparable.

Pura Vida is a beautiful space found amongst an even more magical place - Yelapa. I had the opportunity to spend several week at this wonderful retreat and feel so lucky to have come across it. For me the location was perfect as it had a wonderful mix of ocean and jungle. The rooms are really nicely designed and you wake up to some beautiful views of the ocean! All the staff at Pura Vida are really caring and kind and the food is delicious - especially if you are looking to nourish your body with some nutritious, organic deliciousness! I was also fortunate enough to meet many other beautiful visitors while staying there as there place definitely attracts muy buena onda! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking forward to some relaxing and healing space. I will definitely be back!

I had an amazing time at the Pura Vida retreat. I had planned on staying for 2 weeks, but the beautiful environment and spiritual teachings lead me to cancelling my flight home and staying for an extra month. Anjay leads a transformative personal growth experience. I learned so much about myself, how to run my business more effectively and kindly, and how to simply be more happy with my life. The staff is wonderful, the food is healthy and delicious, and the facility is beautiful. It is right on the ocean, nice snorkeling and minutes from town and nice beaches, also has great salt water pool and hot tub. I would recommend to anyone seeking quiet peaceful spiritual experience right on the ocean. Many thanks to Pura Vida.

First of all, this is an hidden paradise inside another paradise, Yelapa, where the forest meets the ocean and the magic happens. Pira Vida is more than an eco retreat center, is home, peace and life. Is up to you to take advantage of the spirit of the place, and make your own magic! You will wake up with the ocean view, the sun on head and the sounds of birds. You will meet lizards and butterflies on the way to breakfast, surrounded by beautiful flowers and perfumed plants, arriving in the kitchen where a colorful organic and vegetarian food is waiting for you. I didn't know how delicious vegetarian food can be. You can pick fruits from the trees, refresh in the infinity pool, or relax in the hot tub, watching an amazing sunset just in front of you. You will really be in contact with nature, sleeping in super confortable beds, enjoying the open air rooms, the hammocks, the spiritual cinema, and above all using the yoga-meditation deck. Another special place you can find there is Temazcal, a sort of indigenous sauna for rituals, very popular in Mexico. Snorkel, paddle, kayak, everything is arm's length in this fairy town in the middlw of nowhere, accessible only by boat, that will wrlcome you like home. I am very grateful to have been in this little spot of heaven. Hoping to come back, Love you all, Linda.

Pura Vida is a nice venue for a retreat. However, I felt that that the business owner Anjay strongly lacks in integrity, efficiency, organization, and clear communication. I led a retreat here last month, and I am still waiting for him to reply to my emails. I have not received payment (for the release of rooms to Airbnb guests that booked as in-house guests) even though this was agreed upon in writing. I have not received an itemized receipt after check-out even though I asked for it twice. I have not received confirmation that Anjay will use $100 of my deposit/credit to tip the on-site local staff who were very genuine, caring, and provided lovely hospitality during my stay. I paid a large deposit to hold this retreat and did not receive the support that I expected on many levels. It took Anjay about two months to list my retreat on his website. This was after my many emails reminding him, and his replies of it'd be done "soon" and then "this week", "I'm busy," "my web guy is busy," "I don't know how." It would sometimes take up to one week to receive a reply from Anjay to email me back because he was "busy," "traveling," or "didn't have WiFi". I feel that replying within 2-3 days is standard for business. If it's beyond that, I'd suggest creating an "out of the office" auto-reply or hiring an assistant to answer emails. In my opinion, communication was often not clear or not followed up at all. Although Anjay confirmed that there would be airport pick-up upon arrival for my guest and I (as agreed up on with the all-inclusive retreat rate), there was a great deal of confusion that day. I felt embarrassed that my guest had to pay for her boat taxi, was dropped off on the wrong beach, and was left wandering around trying to find Pura Vida until a staff spotted her. (She was later reimbursed for the boat taxi after I mentioned the agreement.) As for me, I showed up at the airport and was told to find and pay for my own taxi to the pier and pay for my own boat taxi. These are just a few of many examples in working with Anjay. I have now read ALL the reviews for Pura Vida, Sacred Springs (a retreat center in California that Anjay is also affiliated with), and Spirit Springs (now closed but has Yelp reviews). If I had known what I do now, I would not have chosen to do any business with Anjay.

Response from Puravidayelapa, Owner at Pura Vida Wellness Retreat
Responded Jul 8, 2019
Hello Tammy, Yes, Pura Vida is a nice venue for a retreat. And your review of the place stops there and becomes a list of unjustified judgments about the owner. Let me address a few points here: We rent our space to different retreat leaders and they bring their own students. We are not responsible for advertising for their retreats on our website. We only tried to help you by posting your retreat on the website. It is not our fault that you were only able to bring one retreat participant. Other retreat leaders usually fill up the space. We were trying to be accommodating to you, when you didn't get any registrations for the original retreat dates, and offered you to change your retreat dates with the transfer of the deposit. The agreement with all retreat leaders is to pay a non-refundable 20% deposit. In return we block the space and reserve the rooms that could be otherwise rented to other clients. It is a financial way to provide for us some security, in case of a loss of not renting the rooms. This deposit is only for reserving the rooms at Pura Vida, and is not supposed to be used, according to your ideas, as tips for the staff or any other strange ideas you had in mind, like trying to retrieve the deposit by contacting other retreat leaders to reimburse this money to you. You were calling it "deposit transfer" and contacted some retreat leaders to get the funds from them. They are not responsible for your deposit, they have responsibility to the contractual agreement with Pura Vida. I know that despite your financial loss, you had a great retreat at Pura Vida, and I am sorry that your frustration about the loss overshadowed your perspective.
