The George has been around for as long as anyone can remember, but in early 2016 it was been treated to a huge makeover including all 15 en-suite bedrooms. Standing proudly in the centre of Shipston High Street, it still remains as the tallest building on the street at three and a half stories. We describe the look as modern yet sympathetic to it's late 18th century features with a feel of casual elegance about it. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard, offering a comfy place to stay. Their sophisticated simplicity gives them a luxurious feel. They all have en-suite bathrooms and breakfast is always included. The ground floor of the George Townhouse is spacious, and our extensive menu covers all meal times. Call in at the start of the day and enjoy a freshly cooked Full English breakfast in the parlour, or pop into our garden room to sample a sharing board and glass of wine over lunch. In the evening treat yourself to a steak in the pantry, sourced from Todenham Manor Farm just 4 miles away.

I was looking forward to this stay in the town I grew up in. Unfortunately the first night of my 2 day stay was a complete disaster. My room was disappointing to say he least! There was no information provided to explain internet connection (had to ring the hotel from the hotel car park on my mobile as no one on site would respond), how to operate the TV (the remote provided was dead and replaced for the second night), who to contact for any problems along with a room that needed some attention and a handle on the WC cistern. I showed a photo to the manager and the next day I had a handle for the toilet cistern. During my departure I happened across the cleaners and it was apparent what part of the problem was. I had a meal that first evening in the restaurant and can honestly

Stayed here for 3 nights and everything was perfect. We had a lovely room with a rain shower and very comfortable bed. The staff were all lovely and friendly and really looked after us. We booked direct so breakfast was included - and was lovely (those pork and leek sausages and the artisan vegan sausages too!) We felt welcome and very much at home! What more could you ask for?!

Stayed at The George for one night yesterday and were really impressed with the size of rooms, hospitality and food. We ate at The George for dinner and were very impressed with the quality of the food, with my partner saying it was the best Fish and Chips he’d had in years. We’ve recently stayed at other hotels in the area that were double and in some cases triple the price and The George more than went toe to toe with these hotels. The bath in room 5 was a lovely treat! Really impressed and great value for money. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The positives about The George are the young staff who do their best to accommodate but we won’t come back. The room we had ( cosy ) was very tired in fact shabby, dirty marks on the wall, scuffs and staines on the carpet and a big gouge out of the wall in the makeshift wardrobe area. The desk/dressing table was chipped and marked and the window sills dirty. You are given a box when you arrive in the reception area that contained two coffee pods for the coffee machine ( we stayed for two nights ) a couple of tea bags and your toiletries, plain weird and given the pandemic we weren’t given any soap to wash our hands with when you’ve been to the toilet ! Two hangers, no hairdryer until I asked and no explanation about WiFi or anything come to think of it. The parking as has been

We booked a luxury room via Booking. Com. Most of the staff were very friendly. The person we took to be the Manager, however, displayed mico-aggression towards us. Not sure why. Half an hour early, so waited. In room, a hanging rail but no coat hangers. A Nespresso machine, no instructions. No bottled water. No mugs, plastic or otherwise, for teeth cleaning. In morning, no buffet as others had praised on this and other websites. A menu was provided. I: was corrected, twice, by the manager , first when I ordered eggs benedict: "eggs royale," he decalaimed and then when I asked for flat white coffe, got some fothy whatnot. When we checked out: he told us the price, no breakdown. I asked for a receipt. What! We email you one anyway. Oh, okay then. No emailed
