The George has been around for as long as anyone can remember, but in early 2016 it was been treated to a huge makeover including all 15 en-suite bedrooms. Standing proudly in the centre of Shipston High Street, it still remains as the tallest building on the street at three and a half stories. We describe the look as modern yet sympathetic to it's late 18th century features with a feel of casual elegance about it. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard, offering a comfy place to stay. Their sophisticated simplicity gives them a luxurious feel. They all have en-suite bathrooms and breakfast is always included. The ground floor of the George Townhouse is spacious, and our extensive menu covers all meal times. Call in at the start of the day and enjoy a freshly cooked Full English breakfast in the parlour, or pop into our garden room to sample a sharing board and glass of wine over lunch. In the evening treat yourself to a steak in the pantry, sourced from Todenham Manor Farm just 4 miles away.

An excellent old inn. Helpful staff, comfortable rooms. If you want a good classic English inn in which to stay in a small English town, this is a classic of its type. Interesting refurbishment that has not destroyed the essential character of the place includes good modern plumbing. Great shower, good breakfast too.

All will be revealed (be ready to groan). Taking the opportunity to visit a local attraction we picked the The George Townhouse on a whim. Glad we did, adequate parking, a well appointed bar and dining area. The room we had was large, with a very large and very comfortable double bed. A decent en-suite. We even had a Nespresso although working out what capsule we needed led to producing lots of froth! I did warn you. We paid for the breakfast and was not disappointed. Decent quantity well presented and cooked. Ok there’s a but, all be it a small one. We had a room on the High street which suffered a little from noise, the locals do like the sound of their car horns, especially at 07:30!! I don’t know how they’d fit secondary glazing though. Only an hour from home but we’ll use

Thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review of your stay. We're ecstatically pleased that you enjoyed your stay so much. All of the team read our reviews and it's a real boost to know that our guests are enjoying themselves. I'm sorry that the locals disturbed you early in the morning. Next time you stay with us, we would be happy to book you a room with a church view, negating this problem. Thank you once again, we very much look forward to seeing you again soon.

We had booked a surprise leaving party for my husband for 23 people and its was all made easy up to the day, deposits paid, menu choices given. On the day, it indeed was a surprise which was wonderful. The food was quick to arrive, hot and very tasty, good quality ingredients and huge portions. The staff were organised, prompt and just really lovely. They made everything relaxed and so easy. I can not recommend the place highly enough and apart from fab food, it really is the staff that make the atmosphere and can make or break a place and the staff at the George really make the place.
