Certificate of Excellence
The George has been around for as long as anyone can remember, but in early 2016 it was been treated to a huge makeover including all 15 en-suite bedrooms. Standing proudly in the centre of Shipston High Street, it still remains as the tallest building on the street at three and a half stories. We describe the look as modern yet sympathetic to it's late 18th century features with a feel of casual elegance about it. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard, offering a comfy place to stay. Their sophisticated simplicity gives them a luxurious feel. They all have en-suite bathrooms and breakfast is always included. The ground floor of the George Townhouse is spacious, and our extensive menu covers all meal times. Call in at the start of the day and enjoy a freshly cooked Full English breakfast in the parlour, or pop into our garden room to sample a sharing board and glass of wine over lunch. In the evening treat yourself to a steak in the pantry, sourced from Todenham Manor Farm just 4 miles away.

A group of us (6) had lunch here on Monday 9th. We were served by Akira who was very helpful and provided excellent service. There is an extensive menu and the food was good except for the steak sandwich which was a bit on the chewy side. Would certainly recommend The George Townhouse.

Hi there, Thank you for your review, feedback like yours is very constructive and helpful as we can address the issue you had with the steak sandwich whilst also praising the member of staff who served you! I can only apologise for the chewiness of your steak sandwich and we will investigate this with the kitchen team. We hope you come back soon to give us another go. Thanks, Management

Visited here yesterday with the family, just the most phenomenal meal we’ve ever had! We all opted for a Sunday dinner, both beef and chicken, everything was cooked to perfection, the beef required no chewing, cooked to perfection pink and so tasty. The veg was unbelievably fresh and served with the perfect amount of gravy. The accompanying red cabbage was also so flavoursome, could t fault anything with the meals. The sticky toffee pudding finished me off, the texture, consistency and flavour was outstanding. Only criticism is I don’t think the ice cream should be put into the skillet/ pan it came to the table on As was melted by the time it came to eating it but it didn’t matter too much as was like eating it with cream as opposed to ice cream. The waitresses were all so attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. Highly recommended this place for outstanding food!

Classic room well decorated with modern fittings. Lovely bar, great food and excellent helpful staff. It’s a pleasant little town with a few nice shops but it’s very small - so you can walk it all in an hour or two. Good base for the area though. Highly recommended.

Lovely 2 night stay in a spacious, very comfortable room. The George take great pride in the small things providing luxurious toiletries, artisan coffees and treats in the rooms. The staff are a credit to the hotel, esp Lee, they are friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. We ate at the restaurant both evenings and the food did not disappoint, fresh produce and ample portion size. The vegan burger was amazing and that’s coming from a meat eater! Cocktails were fab too. We will definitely be back for another visit. Thank you for a wonderful break.
