On the basis of a local recommendation (usually the best!), my wife and I had lunch with two close friends today at the Howard Arms in Ilmington (8 miles drive from Stratford-upon-Avon) which - as we discovered afterwards - is a delightful village. There were no shortage of other punters at the Howard Arms on arrival (an early indication of... More

My wife and I went to the Howard Arms on the recommendation of the B&B in which we were staying - and we were NOT disappointed. The setting was delightful, the service friendly and efficient, and the food was first class.

What a beautiful inn, super cosy bar and restaurant and wonderful rooms. We only stayed 1 night, but I would have loved to stay longer. Our room was at the front over looking the green, lovely view and really peaceful. The room was beautifully designed with extra touches like filter coffee, iced biscuits and toiletries. We had a late dinner... More

This was our first visit and we immediately knew we had found a gem of a place to stay. The room was lovely. Very spacious and beautifully furnished. The bed was really comfortable with lovely bedding and the breakfast was delicious. It may have been our first visit but it definitely won't be our last!

I first visited The Howard Arms years ago, when it was privately owned and was excellent. However, when it was sold, we carried on going for a while, but gradually, it went down hill and subsequently, stopped going. Recently, I spoke to a lady who said she had recently been and it was superb. I took her advice and went... More

Our fourth overnight stay, following the theatre in Stratford. Interestingly, the Howard Arms has changed hands and not lost its character. Very clean, comfortable, civilised bedroom with stylish en suite. All the staff very friendly and helpful. It had seemed in need of a little sprucin-up, and this has been achieved without any loss of character. The dinner was excellently... More

We visited the pub/restaurant recently when we had our mothers visiting for a few days. We'd had a nice Sunday lunch a few months back and the midweek menu looked interesting so decided to return. It's about 20-25 mins journey for us so we booked the day before in case it was busy. We arrived only to be told our... More

If you're staying in Ilmington and you want to walk to dinner, then this place is for you. However, while the food is good, it's quite overpriced and there isn't much of a selection. Service was fine but not very friendly.

We booked for Sunday lunch, on a hot, sunny day and were delighted by the Inn's picturesque setting in this pretty village. We were shown quickly to our table by the window and served with drinks and the menu. I chose the roast pork and my husband the roast beef. Both were tender and tasty and the accompanying vegetables -... More

We ate here tonight. Spur of the moment. Arrived at 7 pm. We were shown to the table & given menu & took our drink order. Food was tasty and looked appetising. Staff friendly and amenable. Nice choice of local seasonal dishes. Good choice of wines. Decor was a twist on traditional with some funky lighting & old oil paintings... More
