Travelers' Choice
The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire.

We stayed here for just one night and also booked into the restaurant for dinner. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and was shown to our room. The hotel followed covid guidelines, the staff were all wearing face masks throughout. We went to the bar before dinner, all table service. The food for dinner was amazing. recommend the crumble desert. Breakfast was delicious too! The room was very comfortable and very clean. It was a wonderful experience, will definitely return.

To start with - had the yummiest Sunday lunch and best halloumi fries I’ve had anywhere - perfect batter consistency! This unfortunately was let down by a communication issue between HQ and the pub. They don’t have an individual landline, so if you call the number on Google it goes to their HQ. Tried to do the right thing by calling ahead to say we were running a bit behind on our walk (5-10mins) and was told that it wouldn’t be a problem. We turned up and was disappointed to find out this hadn’t been communicated properly to the pub from HQ and we no longer had our table, so had to sit in the bar area instead of restaurant. Ordinarily this would have been fine, but it was a bit of a cold day and we were sat opposite the open door. We didn’t enjoy our meal as much because

My wife booked this for our anniversary. Lovely room. Nice bar. The staff were lovely and polite in both the bar and restaurant. The menu looked amazing. I ordered the Thai green chicken starter and the prawn and chorizo linguine. I didn't like either, the linguine wasn't a dish. Enough pasta for 2, no flavour. Pick out the prawns but even they seemed flavourless. The chorizo tasted good. I don't send food back generally, and I didn't here. But I wouldn't ever eat dinner here again based on those 2 dishes. Once in bed, there was no remote control for the tv, really frustrating. No phone, to phone and ask for one. Getting fully dressed to go back to the bar at 10pm?? Not when I'm in bed! First time I've experienced the 'retained remote' policy, and no warning was given at

Dear Notabig, Its pleasing to read that all considered that staff engagement during your stay was pleasant. In terms of the food, it is a shame that 2 dishes completely ruined your opinion of our standards, we aim to ensure all our menu appease to the general populous and can only do so much in ensuring its perfect for all needs and expectations. the linguine has in fact been revised to be more balanced and hope that should you like to return and give us a second go that you will see the difference in this. Considering the variety of the menu; it would be a worth while visit as there is plenty of varied items yet to try. As per your experience in the hotel, its with great regret that i can only do so much on the noise you would have herd through the walls as the venue is a 16th Century listed building. The staff will remain cautious to any after hours movements that may disturb any other guests in the future. The extractor fan has also been set to a timer just after service is finished to avoid this. In the future i can promise that a return visit will be very different, if you will consider giving us a second chance. Please email me at gm@therunninghorses.co.uk and i would be happy to discuss an alternative complementary room perhaps? to see that the small issues may have simply arisen from the location of your room. regards, Paulo Luis
