The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire.

This is a traditional pub near Box Hill and the décor is reminiscent of a coaching house. The food is, overall only average which is a shame as we started with a stunning first course of scallops that were enormous and so succulent. Unfortunately, the second course of fish pie

Dear 717simonc Thank you for taking the time to leave an honest review of your experience of your most recent visit. I'm glad to see some positive feedback but understand we still have a lot to work on. I have spoken in depth with the team regarding this matter. I can assure you they have taken everything on board with As for the food, Chef is very disappointed with the lack of consistency he normally produces but has taken action to ensure this does not happen again. Hope to hear from you, Ed General Manager The Running Horses

Beautiful location, so we stopped for lunch. We ordered a roast and a burger. A weatherspoon roast would hsve been vetyer, they deep fried the yourkshire pudding, was soaked in fat. The meat was bland and tastelss rubbish from the supermarket. It was empty on a lovely sunny

I came here because I was in town for a golf tournament at Beaverbrook country club for the weekend, and didn’t fancy paying the price to stay at Beaverbrook hotel itself. Absolutely blown away by this little pub/hotel. Beautiful location. So peaceful. So nice. Rooms are

This is a lovely, comfortable, small coaching inn. Friendly staff and intimate atmosphere, with excellent food. We love the place but management seems to be off the boil - lots of little things: two light bulbs missing - one bedside and one over bathroom mirror, one fixed

Hi Rick, thanks for your review - We're glad you enjoyed it but apologise for those annoyances you mentioned. I'd love to get a little more information on your stay. If you'd have time and would be able to email the dates that you stayed with us and the rooms name, it would be much appreciated, and I can look into the noted issues a little further. Many thanks, and all the best. (info@therunninghorses.co.uk)
