The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire.

So, a bit of a tale...For us the measure of exceptional service is how a business acts when things do not go according to plan. Having booked a stay a few weeks ago we arrived to find that due to the booking system being down that our room had been double booked! However from

Hello SDSurrey, Firstly I would like to extend a further apology for the initial error with your first visit here. The mix up was completely our error and I am extremely grateful you chose to come back to see us in a positive light. The team were over the moon that you returned and were so pleased to be able to rectify the mistake made. They all have a lot of pride in what they do and I hope that showed. We are all looking forward to your next visit with us here at the Running Horses. Best Wishes, The Running Horses Team

Popped into this pub on Sunday and had a fantastic lunch with the family who came down to visit over the weekend. The scallops were heavenly and the Roadt beef butter perfection. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating!! Highly recommend

Ploughman’s lunch was served with a slice of pie with shrived-up meat which was turning black. Belly pork sandwich - warmed up, over cooked slices of pork, inedible crackling and a smear of apple sauce. Two inept staff running the bar obviously new to the job and were not sure

Dear 578mary, Thank you for taking the time to leave an honest review of your experience back in July. Firstly I would like to apologise on behalf of the Running Horses team that your visit was not up to the acceptable standard one would expect. I am the NEW Manager here as of the beginning of August . I have spoken in depth with the team regarding this matter. I can assure you they have taken everything on board with many training aspects put in place over the next few weeks As for the food, Chef is very disappointed with the lack of consistency he normally produces but has taken action to ensure this does not happen again. I do hope you would give us another chance in the future. Please feel free to email me on book@therunninghorses.co.uk if you would consider a meal on me to make up for the prior visit. Hope to hear from you, Ed General Manager The Running Horses

We decided to have Sunday roast in the pub part rather than the restaurant. The pub bit is very traditional and probably hasn't been refurbished in a while but it's got a lot of charm about it. We got there at noon and it wasn't busy. Service was excellent. We both had 'Supreme
