The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire.

No Staff available to serve behind the bar; no drinkable beer as it was the end of the barrel - why not have a reserve?; no glasses available to pour beer into. Just ridiculously awful. There to satisfy owner ego Davies

We (a couple) had a fantastic time at the running horses. The manager and staff are very friendly and made the extra effort to make sure we felt at home. The rooms are clean and have all the things you could want including an espresso machine. The bar and restaurant downstairs

How far is this place from the racecourse and how long does it take and cost via taxi? Thanks.
Hi. The Pub/Inn is approximately 7 miles from the Downs. There are two routes, one via the main road and one the scenic route but both about the same distance and travelling time - about 15 minutes (allow 20 for traffic and more if there's a race meeting to attend). Don't know how much a taxi would cost but ring Ashtead Taxis who are very helpful on 01372 390309 and they should be able to tell you. Hope this helps.
